Reading Different Social Realities Through "Time And Space": A Study on The Traces of Capitalist Society System in Literature and Cinema

Many theorists defines a deterministic relationship between industrialization and urbanization problems caused by capitalist society relations. At the same time, they explains the emergence of capitalism through the decline of agriculture against craft and industrial production, the market and exchange value. The aim of the capitalist system is to increase the money / capital transferred to the production process and to return it to itself. Although this aim is the common tendency of capitalism in all geographies, it is known that it has different results in different geographies and different historical sections. In this study, it is aimed to show the opportunities provided by literature and cinema to explaining the total reproduction process of the society that takes place in urban life. In this direction, the reflections of the capitalist society relations were traced in the time and space of the cases in the works of literature and cinema. Thus, the importance of the historical-geographical context in urban studies was emphasized by emphasizing the different results of the tendency of the capitalist system to realize its purpose in different times and spaces.

Corpos e práticas LGBTQIAP+: da censura à presença capital

Na atualidade, com a evidência dos movimentos sociais e a crescente preocupação com pautas identitárias, a emergência de discursos que promovam o reconhecimento dos homossexuais busca suprir demandas sociais e midiáticas. As primeiras se referem à inclusão social dessa minoria que, historicamente, se constitui como uma “identidade concessiva” (OLIVEIRA, 2021) em relação a construções identitárias heteronormativas, estas, implicativas. As segundas correspondem aos interesses mercadológicos e midiáticos que se adaptam às demandas sociais e originam práticas como o Pink Money e a inserção de personagens homossexuais em diversas esferas de comunicação. De modo a abordar essas transições socioculturais e midiáticas, mobilizamos conceitos da semiótica discursiva para contrastar a repressão de homossexuais em artigos de opinião do jornal Lampião da Esquina (1978-1981) com a presença numerosa de corpos LGBTQIAP+ nas produções midiáticas contemporâneas, como reality shows e programas de TV de modo geral.

The Role of Traditional Street Markets in the Development of Sociability-based Publicness in Urban L...

The aim of this study is to investigate the potentials of traditional street markets as an alternative shopping space in terms of developing sociability-based publicity in urban life in the contemporary capitalist system. [Show full abstract] terms of sociability-based publicness are not adequately studied in the literature. Qualitative research method was used in the study based on field research conducted in a traditional street market in Eyüp district of Istanbul. In the study, various potentials based on espacially publicness and randomness, which can be examined under 5 main titles that are related to each other and which require the existence of each other, in traditional street markets have been revealed: “social inclusion and diversity”, “different forms of communication”, “spatial temporariness, continuity and flexibility”, “alternative shopping” and “originality and social meaning”. In addition, it is another result that –as opposed to the dominant literature regarding the fact that the market places have damaged publicness in urban life by identifying only with “consumption”– the consumption/shopping forms that emerged in traditional street markets has different characteristics than the forms in the contemporary capitalist system. As a result, in the study, the connection of traditional street markets with publicness is associated with the different forms of sociability emerging in these spaces. Finally, it is argue that each of the street markets emerging and shaped in different geographies, different historical sections and different societies should be handled with its own originality and the potential of public space should be discussed within this framework in scientific studies on publicness and market places.

Once we assume this production is founded on capital, the condition that the capitalist must introduce into circulation values that he has created — whether through his own labour or otherwise, since he does not yet have available wage-labour, either present or past — in order to set himself up as a capitalist, now belongs to the antediluvian conditions of capital; it belongs to its historical prerequisites, which already as such are past, and thus belong to the history of its development and not in any way to its contemporary history, i.e. not to the real system of the mode of production that it controls. If, for example, the flight of the serfs to the towns was one of the historical conditions and prerequisites of the urban system, it ceases to be a condition, and a factor in its reality, once the towns have developed.
