Field observations from some caves in Umphang District, Tak Province, Thailand

Basic scientific observations, including measurements of air and water temperature, oxygen and radon concentrations, from caves in a scientifically poorly known karst area in Umphang District, Western Thailand, are described. The results, which illustrate what can be achieved by a small expedition of non-specialist cavers, provide the first evidence of low oxygen and radon concentrations in Thai caves. The results are discussed in the context of published data from other Thai caves. Cave surveys are also presented.

Doi Angkhang Expedition 2024

Published in Shepton Mallet Caving Club Journal Series 14 No. 3 This article describes an expedition to the Doi Angkhang region of northern Thailand that took place in February 2024. In total an international team totalling 25 cavers visited 41 caves, including 23 that had not been previously recorded, and surveyed 2,290 metres of passage in 8 caves. These survey are included in this article.

Some caves in Thailand Part 4

Work by the Shepton Mallet Caving Club in Thailand has continued and this fourth part of an ongoing series of articles gives details and surveys of various caves explored by the club since Part 3 was published in 2011. Northern Thailand Expedition 2023

August 2023

Published in Shepton Mallet Caving Club Journal Series 14 No. 2 From 21 January to 8 February 2023 eight SMCC members and fifteen other cavers investigating caves in Nan and Chaiyaphum provinces in northern and northeastern Thailand. The expedition surveyed 3 km of new passage in 24 caves and dived in four of the caves.
