Tämä tutkimus kohdentuu käsityönopettajien kokemuksiin yhteisopetuksesta ja siihen, millaisia haasteita he ovat kohdanneet toteuttaessaan yhteisopetusta. Tutkimusaineisto on kerätty kymmenessä perusopetuksen koulussa, joista osallistui yhteensä 22 käsityötä opettavaa opettajaa yhteisopetusta koskeviin teemahaastatteluihin. Aineisto koostuu lukuvuoden 2018–2019 aikana kerätyistä yhteensä 11 ryhmä- ja yksilöhaastattelusta, joihin osallistui kerralla 1–3 käsityötä opettavaa opettajaa. Litteroidut haastatteluaineistot analysoitiin teemoittelemalla ja tyypittelemällä. Tutkimustulosten perusteella käsityön yhteisopetus voidaan jaotella kolmeen tyyppiin yhteisopetuksen toteuttajina: alkavat, kehittyvät ja ammattimaiset. Opettajien kokemukset profiloituvat näihin kolmeen tyyppikuvaukseen. Ne eroavat toisistaan siinä, missä vaiheessa yhteisopetukseen kehittymistä eri vaiheessa olevat opettajaparit ovat. Näyttää siltä, että yhteisopetus helpottaa ja antaa opettajille varmuutta opetuksen suunnittelussa, oppilaiden suunnittelu- ja valmistusprosessien ohjaamisessa sekä oppilasarvioinnissa. The focus of this research was on the experiences of craft teachers in co-teaching and the challenges they have encountered in implementing co-teaching. The data were collected from ten elementary schools, with a total of 22 craft teachers participating in thematic interviews on co-teaching. The material consists of a total of 11 group and individual interviews from the 2018–2019 academic year, with 1–3 craft teachers at a time. The transcribed interview materials were analysed by theming and making type descriptions. Based on the research results, co-teaching of craft can be divided into three types: emerging, advanced and proficient. It seems that co-teaching makes it easier for teachers to plan teaching, guide students’ design and to manufacture processes and student assessment.

Four instructors from a mid-western university implemented exit tickets in their university courses. The exit tickets were based on Marzano’s (2012) four types of exit tickets and were analyzed for patterns. Faculty completed a journal to reflect on what was learned examining the exit tickets. A survey was completed by both instructors and university students to determine the benefits of the use of exit tickets as a formative assessment at the university. Researchers share the processes used for implementing exit tickets and the results of the data collected along with implications for the use of exit tickets at the university.

In Finland, the trend towards a new kind of history teaching emphasizing the understanding of historical knowledge and historical thinking skills began in the mid-1990s, when history teaching objectives were defined much more broadly in the curriculum than previously. In this article, we examine how, in over twenty years since the changes in curriculum objectives were made, general upper secondary school teachers have come to value the curriculum objectives of history teaching and how these have impacted on their teaching. The data for this article were collected by a semi-structured survey in 2016. Using counts, percentages, means, standard deviations and medians, a descriptive exploration was made of history teachers' perceptions of the essential objectives in teaching history and how often they were put into practice in related student activities. To investigate the balance between the objectives the teachers emphasized as the most essential and the teaching methods they actually used, we applied the Kruskal–Wallis test and the Friedman test. According to the results, what the teachers considered essential for teaching history did not correlate with their teaching methods. In addition, according to the results, this state of affairs is still undergoing change; old traditions and new objectives of history teaching are creating tensions. The results were interpreted in the light of the cultural viewpoints of Finnish teaching, the position of matriculation examinations in Finnish general upper secondary schools and the challenges the curriculum is setting for history teachers.

The purpose of this article is to examine the major changes Finnish school craft has undergone and explain these changes by using societal, pedagogical and subject-driven determinants. The main sources of this research include committee reports and national curricula. Research data was classified into five periods: craft for home well-being (1866–1911), craft for civic society (1912–1945), craft for independent hard-working citizens (1946–1969), toward equality craft (1970–1993), and unlimited craft (1994–2014). The analysis show that school craft has steadily followed students’, society’s and the subject’s different needs during these periods.

Artikkelissa tarkastellaan, millaisia historiallisen tiedon luonteen kuvauksia lukiolaiset tuottivat tutkivan historian oppimisen kurssilla sekä millaiseen tekstitoimintaan nämä kuvaukset kytkeytyivät. Aineistona tutkimuksessamme on 19 lukiolaisen tekstit, jotka on kirjoitettu viikon mittaisen tutkivan oppimisen projektin lopussa. Tutkivan oppimisen viikon pääajatuksena oli vahvistaa opiskelijoiden ymmärrystä historiallisen tiedon rakentumisen tavoista sekä historiallisen tiedon luonteesta. Tekstit on analysoitu teoriaohjautuvalla sisällönanalyysillä. Opiskelijoiden teksteissä ilmeni runsaasti tekstitoiminnan kuvausta. Erilaisten lähdeaineistojen kanssa toimiminen ja päätelmien tekeminen niiden pohjalta sai historiallisen tiedon rakentumisen prosessin opiskelijoille näkyväksi. Tekstit osoittavat myös, miten historian sisältöjen ja taitojen oppiminen yhdistyivät tutkivan oppimisen prosessissa. Historiallisen tiedon luonne näyttäytyi tutkimusprosessin jälkeen selkeästi tulkinnallisena. Artikkelissamme raportoidun oppimisprojektin haasteeksi muodostui, että lukiolaisilla ei ollut keinoja arvioida tulkintojen luotettavuutta tai totuudellisuutta

Children explore their environment through experiences and each experience is meaningful in developing their environmental consciousness and identity. On the basis of the drawn landscape experiences, the present qualitative study set out to find out what landscapes the participating students deemed worth conserving. The data consisted of the drawings of 11-to 16-year-old Finnish (n = 311) and Swedish (n = 246) students. Deductive and inductive content analyses were used to analyse the data. The results showed that all three landscape types; nature, built, and social were presented in the drawings. Nature and built landscapes were the most frequent types, with the proportion of nature landscapes increasing and that of built landscapes decreasing with age. There were gender and cultural preferences: boys drew built landscapes more often than girls; and Finnish students drew summer cottages, a cultural phenomenon typical of Finnish landscapes, which was not found in Swedish drawings. Similarities in Finnish and Swedish data were identified e.g., in forest and water and "cultural landscapes". Some of the students displayed a more distant, observing role, whereas others adopted an active one in relation to all three landscape types. The results are discussed in connection to the landscape theories and earlier findings of the drawn environments.
