Developing Hong Kong into Asia's legaltech hub: Viability of transplanting models on popularising legaltech from other jurisdictions
Abstract
Legaltech has been increasingly identified as the next chapter for the legal profession around the world. Regrettably, despite the renowned legal system and globalised legal market in Hong Kong, this metropolis is not quite catching up with the international trend of legaltech. Adopting an interjurisdictional and interdisciplinary approach, this essay seeks to dissect the success formula behind the legaltech hub in the United States, China and Singapore; and then propose a legaltech hub development model suitable for Hong Kong, which essentially takes reference of the state-led public-private collaboration model of Singapore with modifications to fit into the Hong Kong’s specific socio-political context.
