Recent technological innovations in the field of artificial intelligence have been applied by media outlets to publish automated texts generated by bots and algorithms in order to produce a larger amount of news and to do it at a faster rate. Nevertheless, the emergent use of this technology in the newsrooms opens a debate about the consequences of this application in the professional role of journalists.
This discussion has also moved to the ethical sphere because a bot cannot operate without a human intervention and, consequently, its production process must be editorially monitored and supervised at any time. Through the study of best practices in referral media outlets, this chapter analyses changes and defiances that this innovation may provoke in journalism, regarding from the ethical implications in the decision-making to its impact on the quality of coverages.
