The Convenient Differences Between The Legal Professional Act and The Advocates Ordinance (Sabah) (Cap 2) as amended by Act A1528

Abstract

Citation [2020] 1 LNS(A) cxxxv at page 1 This is my view of the differences between the two. LPA currently serves more than 16K lawyers in West Malaysia in "Malaya" jurisdiction while Sabah Advocates Ordinance (as amended) serves less than 1K in Sabah, yet the amendments are pretty much in line with LPA except for certain areas which one should take note, such as the refusal to include inputs from members in framing the rules and amendments and so on. This amendment could have been avoided as there should not be any differences when it comes to "governing" the legal profession in the whole of Malaysia. The profession should aim to be integrated to serve anyone within Malaysia.
