Abstract

The term Head Down Generation was coined by the scientist and philosopher Foyez Ahmed. Ahmed tagged this term with the people who are afflicted with smartphones and internet technology. Ahmed embedded this term especially with millennials who are spending most of their time staring at and tapping on the screen of smartphones. Smartphone technology has become an addiction to modern citizens. Nowadays whenever people get any spare time they take out their mobile phone started to tap and scroll on the screen even in the street, park, bus, metro everywhere avoiding socialization and ignoring the matter of surroundings. As a result, an individualistic careless generation is growing up who are absolutely indifferent about their social issues. These types of people always bend their heads down on the screen of mobile phones that’s why Ahmed labeled this offspring as ‘Head Down Generation’ in a defamatory and derogatory manner.
