Airsickness during Naval Flight Officer Training: Advanced Squadron VT86-AJN (New Syllabus).

This report is the sixth in a series dealing with a longitudinal study of airsickness in the Basic, Advanced, and Fleet Readiness Squadrons comprising the Naval Flight Officer Training Program. Flight data are presented on a second group of VT86-RIO students receiving secondary training under a new flight syllabus. [Show full abstract] airsick on one or more flights, 46 percent reported vomiting on one or more flights, and 43 percent considered their flight performance to have been degraded by airsickness on one or more hops. Of the 2, 072 hops flown by th students, airsickness, vomiting, and performance degradation were reported to have occurred on 18.1, 8.8, and 6.9 percent, respectively, of the flights. The report details the flight data by hops and by students and also relates the airsickness performance of the student group to performance on a selected battery of motion reactivity tests administered to a large segment of the squadron population prior to beginning flight training. “Tempus Divitiae”: Locomotion orientation and evaluation of time as a precious resource

Prior research on time issues has demonstrated that the value of time is subjective and shows that different evaluations of time (as a valuable or as an undefined resource) correspond to different attitudes, behaviors, and emotions. Based on recent research on the relationship between time and motion, the present research aimed to investigate the relationship between locomotion orientation (i.e., ... [Show full abstract] proclivity toward movement and change) and the evaluation of time as a resource. Two studies were conducted with 313 (244 students and 69 workers) and 139 (students) Italian participants, respectively. In the first study, The Locomotion Regulatory Mode Scale and the Mental Account Scale (Time version) were administered, while in the second study, participants were presented with two scenarios of a transaction where prior investments of time led to negative outcomes. The results of the two studies confirmed the hypotheses that (1) locomotion orientation is associated with the existence of a mental accounting process for time investments and (2) locomotion orientation is associated with greater disappointment from negative consequences of poor time expenditures. Theoretical and practical implications are discussed.

The development procedures employed were ADDIE model which consisedt of five stages: analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. In development stage, the assessment had been conducted by two experts to assess validity of media both in content and construct aspects. The results showed that the validities in content aspect and construct aspect were “very good” and “good”, respectively. The results from classroom implementation revealed the effectiveness of the product in enhancing students’ conceptual understanding and problem solving skills. Students’ responses towards the product’s utility, attractiveness, and easiness as blended learning media were also positive. The conclusion was that the media was valid and effective as blended learning media of Basic Physics I course.</p

[Show full abstract] time study.The energy expenditure was ordinarily calculated by relative metabolic rate(RMR-method).It is well known that there is a significant correlation between oxygen intake and heart rate in the steady state,so we calculated the energy expenditure by heart rate on the whole day(HR-method).The energy expenditure by HR-method showed lower level than by RMR-method,so it was doubtful to use HR-method for calculating the energy expenditure.By RMR-method,the energy expenditure was less than the desired energy intake in college female students.It was suggested that physical activity was neccessary for college female students in daily life.

Pupils’ conceptions of force in inanimates and animates

The objective of this work was to highlight the conceptions of force held by students aged 10–17 years old, in situations where animate and inanimate objects interact. In the proposed experimental situations, we varied parameters such as the motion and position of an object and the agent’s effort. We asked questions about both inanimate and animate objects. Results show that pupils are able to ... [Show full abstract] use a small number of conceptions coherently, but that these are influenced by the context. For inanimate objects, conceptions develop gradually. Initially, force is regarded as a property of objects related to their weight and/or motion/position. With age, however, pupils begin to regard it as a process of interaction. For animates, conceptions evolve much more slowly, insofar as all pupils consider force to be a human property related to the result that is obtained and/or the agent’s effort.
