Abstract

The obvious direct effects of climate change include increased stress from heat, floods, drought and more extreme events such as storms, but there are also more indirect effects, such as air pollution, the spread of diseases transmitted by carriers such as mosquitoes, population displacements and post-traumatic stress caused by natural disasters. As climate change continues, our planet could be a very different and harsh place to live in the future. Over the coming years, it could lead to land degradation with available agricultural land falling sharply by 2050. It could also provoke dwindling water resources. The gap between water needs and available resources could reach 40% in the coming decades, with serious consequences on people's ability to feed themselves and consequently their health. The following diseases are on action during climate change. • CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASES The heart and vascular system are highly vulnerable to a variety of environmental agents, including tobacco smoke, solvents, pesticides, and other inhaled or ingested pollutants, as well as extremes in noise and temperature. Cardiovascular diseases are the main cause of mortality and morbidity worldwide. Extreme temperatures, both hot and cold, are a well-established risk factor for this type of disease, and climate change is already increasing the duration and intensity of such extreme temperatures. After linking the data with weather records, researchers found that greater temperature fluctuation was associated with significantly higher rates of heart attack. Overall, heart attack risk increased by about 5% for every 9 degree fluctuation in temperature. Swings of more than 45 degrees were also associated with a greater increase in heart attack risk than smaller changes (18-45 degrees) in temperature. Researchers note that this effect was even more pronounced on warmer days, meaning that fluctuations in temperature were more likely to trigger heart attacks in warmer weather. In this study, daily temperature fluctuation was defined as the difference between the highest and lowest temperature recorded on the day of the heart attack. • ALLERGIES: Allergies, also known as allergic diseases, are a number of conditions caused by hypersensitivity of the immune system to typically harmless substances in the environment. These diseases include hay fever, food allergies, atopic dermatitis, allergic asthma, and anaphylaxis.
