•Knowledge co-creation is essential for understanding young people’s
interests and values concerning sustainable well-being and for including
these in decision-making processes.
•Co-research as a research approach allowing us to develop and study
trajectories that young people, aged 16-29 years, consider relevant.
“participation of people under study in the implementation of the research and
considering them as capable actors who have knowledge about their own
world”(Pyyry 2012)
•Co-research can be understood as parallel pathways: the researcher jointly
with the young people affirms that the latter have pathways that motivate
and give direction to their participation (Lohmeyer, 2019).

KNOWLEDGE CO-CREATION WITH YOUNG PEOPLE
•Inviting and engaging
•Co-research bootcamps
•Autoethnographies and peer-interviews
•Ponder-cafés
•Participation in various stages of action research process
(planning, data production, analysis, writing, presenting)

CO-RESEARCHER´S EXPERIENCES
Benefits and enabling outcomes:
•developed personal skills and advanced parallel pathways,
•increase in confidence and self-efficacy,
•established sense of belonging,
•gaining professional and social experiences
•sense of ownership of the project,
•patience and perseverance with research work
•redress the imbalance in the power relations between academic researcher and co-
researcher
•getting heard and listened to and ideas were published and executed

ACADEMIC RESEARCHER´S EXPERIENCES
Ethical considerations:
•Avoiding responsibilization beyond co-researchers´capacities
•Work on balancing the power asymmetries related to knowledge,
age, cultures, and time- and financial resources remains
•Recognition through payment / other tangible/ non-tangible
benefits
•Academic researcher needs to have the right attitude and tools
•accept to take a position on the backseat, but still managing the risks of
the research process
Key for building trust and creating space for agency

TOWARDS ETHICALLY SOUND AND INCLUSIVE CO-RESEARCH
•Tailor-made course on co-research must be provided.
•Training should be a two-way process between academic and co-researcher
•Co-research is an ongoing negotiation of consent and assent.
•Co-research as
•a capacity-building / empowerment process (personal level/societal
impact)
•a more ethically sound, valid and reliable data collection
methodology
•construction bases for building scenarios?
