Guebli Abdelkader and all, The Modern Technology to Stimulate and Improve Sports Performance for the Paralympic Athletes.
1. Introduction:
In the 21st century, more people than ever before are participating in sports. In the words
of the former U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan, sport has truly become a universal language,
bringing people together, no matter what their origin, background, religious beliefs or economic
status. With increased interest and participation in sports, and the extensive media coverage of
sporting events worldwide, sport has evolved into a global business in billions dollars ,
including sports products and services (Fuss, Subic, & Mehta, 2008). As Paralympic sports
have seen an exponential increase in participation since 8 Algerian disabled athletes took part
in the first Paralympic Games on Barcelona 1992 (Summer Games).
Paralympic Games - A multi-sport event for athletes with physical, mental and sensorial
disabilities. This includes mobility disabilities, amputees, visual disabilities and those with
cerebral palsy. The Paralympic Games are held every four years, following the Olympic
Games, and are governed by the International Paralympic Committee(Bartlett, 2007). More
than 60 athletes took part in the Rio de Janeiro 2016 Paralympic Games. These Few sporting
events have seen such rapid evolution(“IPC Historical Results Archive - Country Web,”.2019.).
The number of people with disabilities involved in sport and physical recreation is steadily
increasing around the world with organized sports for athletes with disabilities divided into
three main disability groups, sports for the deaf, sports for persons with physical disabilities,
and sports for persons with intellectual disabilities(Abdelkader, Madani, Adel, & Bouabdellah,
2018). This rapid pace of change and development also has meant challenges for understanding
the injury risks of participation, not only because of the variety of sports, the evolution of
adapted equipment but also because of the inclusion of additional impairment types and
development of new sports over time. where the Early studies were limited in scope but patterns
of injuries are slowly emerging within Winter and Summer Paralympic sports (Webborn &
Emery, 2014).
Technology affects many aspects of the sport from performance on and off the field to the
spectating and public profile. Increasingly, advances in technology influence grass-roots as well
as elite’s Paralympic sport, where Technology is used to enhance athletes' performances at all
stages before, during and after events. It may be used by the athletes' support teams, such as
coaches, medics and technicians, as well as by the Paralympic athletes themselves in training,
Rehabilitation and psychological stimulation (“Technology in sport - WJEC - Revision 4 -
GCSE Physical Education,”.2004.). The sports industry has diversified to accommodate the
different interests and needs of the broader stakeholder base. The attributes described by the
Olympic motto ‘Swifter, Higher, Stronger (in Latin Citius, Altius, Fortius) are very much
complemented today by addition aims that include, for example, safety, equity, and access.
Over the years, the industry has promoted and helped develop new sports that have in turn
served as catalysts for new types of products(Fuss et al., 2008).
The quest for new markets, records, and sports supremacy has led to millions of dollars
being spent on research in and development of sport techniques and equipment, As a

consequence, both athletes and coaches are now involved in increasingly complex systems that
rely heavily on advanced technologies (Chi, Borriello, Hunt, & Davies, 2005). A though
advanced sports technologies are frequently enabled by novel design, advanced materials and
processes, they derive from a deeper understanding of the particular needs of athletes and
associated product attributes, including performance, aesthetics, ergonomics and sensory
perceptions (Christine, 2017).
2. Modern Technology and Algerian Paralympic Sports:
The achievements of elite athletes of Algerian in sports Paralympic have recently evolved
remarkably (Table.1), as the practitioner’s number of various Paralympics sporting activities
has also risen (Table.2), This is illustrated by the digital levels achieved in the recent
Paralympics Games. This has stimulated and encouraged people with disabilities to engage and
practice of various sporting activities. However, this progress in motivation the psychological
factor towards the practice of sports objected by many obstacles, the most important lack of
material means and sports equipment for practice, as the equipment used in practice has recently
development significantly at the global level. This encouraged the most people disabled for
practicing of the sports activity in different games.
In Algeria, disabled people suffer in a lack of sports equipment, as this group of society
has been eliminating the psychological problems That impede their exercise of sport and their
integration into society. and that's a very important incentive, but the technological means used
to practice sports has become an impede for people with disabilities in Algeria, including the
general technological means like specific Wheelchair sports seating (basketball, tennis ...etc).

Since the equipment among unimpaired athlete varies widely depending on which sporting
activity and This should be unsurprising. because Besides applying the latest technologies to
sports equipment to compensate for decreased function, customized equipment attempts to fit
each athlete intimately so that the participant may utilize that equipment as an extension of
his/her body (Blauwet & Willick, 2012). Individual differences in body structure and physical
ability are emphasized in designing sports equipment to gain mechanical advantage and prevent
wasted energy. Failure to fit the equipment to the athlete may result in poor performance and
predispose the individual to accidents or injuries (Laferrier et al., 2012). Below we discuss the
key principles in sports Paralympic equipment for some popular Paralympic sports taking into
consideration aspects of Performance Kinetic, mobility, and pressure relief.
3. Discussion:
The positive association of education and practice on sports participation could indicate
that these Paralympic Athletes of the elite team have more experience in coping with barriers.
People with higher education (high school or more) might have learned more skills in terms of
coping with problems or are readier to become active in sports, despite possible barriers (Kaplan
et al., 2003; Kinne et al., 1999). It’s no surprise that technology is reshaping the world in which
we live, as might be surprised how it’s changing the world of sports. technology has led to the
development of better safety equipment and the testing of that equipment. For example,
Wheelchair Sports, biocompatibility, and dozens of other factors. Collectively, this helps to
reduce the total number of player injuries sustained during a game. it also helps to facilitate the
practice of sports for Paralympic athletes (Christine, 2017).
Intensive data analysis can also help athletes understand when they are at risk for injury,
by tracking their physical motions. Modern technology may be able to Protect Athlete and
therefore prevent this from happening.(Can, Lu, & Gan, 2011). technology is making sports
more available to fans than ever before. disabled people now have the option to stream their
favourite games at home or on mobile devices, live or as an archived recording, and can use
social media as a way to express their love or hate for whatever teams are playing (Cooper &
Luigi, 2014). That level of accessibility is transforming the way that disabled people enjoy
sports, and it’s only going to grow more immersive from here especially with the development
of equipment technology (Haake, 2009).

Figure.1: Wheelchair basketball, Tennis, Wheelchair racing
Wheelchair sports; The goals of seating systems in wheelchair sports extend far beyond
the postural and pressure relieving of a seating system in an everyday chair and can vary widely
across different wheelchair sports. A sports wheelchair enables mobility challenged athletes to
participate in their desired sporting activities with decreased restriction. Appropriate wheelchair
selection and settings will contribute to optimizing sports performance as well as protecting the
athlete from possible negative effects including blunt force and repetitive strain injury.
Wheelchair basketball like its standing counterpart is a fast-moving and exciting sport. Agility
(achieving rapid responses in acceleration, braking, and turning), overall speed, and stability
are keys to gaining the advantage in wheelchair basketball games (Vanlandewijck, Theisen, &
Daly, 2001). Seating for wheelchair basketball is intimately related to the desired outcome,
which is to have fun, be competitive, and more often than not, win. In general, decreasing
rolling resistance when moving forward, turning and improved wheelchair response are the
goals when setting basketball wheelchairs.(Nosal, n.d.). Wheelchair tennis has a very fast
tempo, even when the two-bounce rule is applied. Because players have to do their best to cover
the entire court, it is important that the wheelchair is fast and responsive .The goal of seating in
wheelchair tennis is to permit a full range of motion of the trunk (in all directions) to increase
the athlete’s ability to reach and hit the ball(Burkett, 2010). The wheelchair racing and user
interface remain critical issues, even with the significant advances in the availability and design
of commercial racing wheelchairs (Cooper, 1990; Robertson, 2000). The seating interface
should fit tightly to the user. the seat should be silent when pushing at maximal speed and force
(Figure.1).
Throwing chair; Paralympic athletics include four throwing sports: shot put, discus, club
throw and javelin (Figure.2). While both ambulatory and seated athletes participate in all
throws, this focuses on the seated thrower or classifications F31-34 and F51-58. There are few
regulations on the frames used for seated throwing and several styles of frame designs have
proliferated (Hellwig, 2010). Previous literature on throwing events for athletes with disabilities
has mainly focused on the biomechanics of the throwing (Chung, 2003). current throwing chair
designs are: difficult to secure to the ground, provide little support of for the legs and feet, have
few adjustable features, are easy to misalign with the sector when securing to the ground, and
can be difficult to transfer from and back to the athletes’ wheelchair. Recent efforts at the
Human Engineering Research Laboratories have led to the creation of a highly adjustable
throwing chair design that addresses these shortcomings (Chung, 2010).

The adaptive sport continues to break down social, conceptual, and physical barriers
through the advancement of technology, and the competitive spirit. Consideration should
always be given to proper equipment selection, maintenance, and fitting in order to maximize
functional capacity, improve performance and prevent injury (Faupin, 2004). Further to
Performance enhancement by identifying ways to optimize training and provide sound coaching
at all levels. add that, improving equipment design to provide superior strength whilst
decreasing weight and increasing maneuverability, and Providing protection from repetitive
trauma which could lead to pressure sores and various other injuries (Figure.3) (Frank, 1993).
In the past decade, there have been a number of new technologies introduced to facilitate
research and advance sports performance for people with disabilities. As these technologies
become more widely available, their impact should grow to increase the understanding of the
mechanisms that influence adaptive sports performance. This study focused on determining
factors motives to sports participation with modern technologies for Algerian athletes disabled.
where Today, sports are still part of the rehabilitation program, to familiarize patients with
physical disabilities with different sports possibilities and increase their physical fitness and
quality of life (Notté et al., 2011). With more (international) interest in Paralympic sports than
ever, one would expect that the sports participation of people with physical disabilities, in
general, might also increase (Dlugonski et al., 2011). despite the presence of sports in the
rehabilitation program and the growing attention for Paralympic sports, the majority of people
with physical disabilities still are not physically active (Nulty DD, 2008). And the multiplicity
of reasons between the psychological incentives and the simple means and equipment adopted
in practice (non-modern technologies).
However, the results of the national elite confirm the continuation of its efforts during the
training, in light of obstacles encountered by material means of modern technology. The
benefits of sport and physical activity for disabled people can certainly go beyond the exercise
itself. It can provide a gateway to social wellbeing by opening-up further opportunities for
friendship-building and meaningful interactions through complementary activities, including
time shared with others.
4. Conclusions:
People with different physical disabilities experience several generic, but also specific
barriers and facilitators of sports participation Both generic and specific barriers and facilitators
should be included in sport stimulation programs to increase sports participation of people with
physical disabilities. and for trying to increase sports participation for people with physical
disabilities, it is important to understand what withholds them from sports and how they can be
stimulated to become active in sports. It is also important to establish whether active and
inactive people with physical disabilities experience different barriers and facilitators of sports

participation. In order to do so, the following considerations should be kept in mind: * Persons
with a physical disability should have a positive attitude towards sports participation and have
to (internally) motivating to become active. *Rehabilitation professionals should emphasize
health and psychosocial benefits of sports participation. *Algerian Paralympic committee
should be also improving disability sports knowledge, and technology equipment used in the
practice to fully integrate sports participation of people with and without physical disabilities.
*improve the infrastructure such as sports facilities, and collaborate with other health. In
addition to opening a national market for sports equipment for the disabled with modern
technologies.

... From the proofs, the course of movement of the body is an important factor (Guebli et al., 2020;Guebli Abdelkader et al., 2018) in the successful execution of kick penalties, besides, there are many principles of physics in soccer games (Clarys et al., 2003;Hay, 1978;Shan et al., 2019). So, an analysis of the biomechanics of the specific skills that are performed Benelguemar et al., 2020;Henni̇ et al., 2020;Zerf Mohammed et al., 2015) by soccer athletes permit optimal sports performance (Clarys et al., 2003;Katis & Kellis, 2010). ...
... Based on the above result, it can be seen that the angle of the trunk (α1) appears to be +/-90⁰ in the backswing phase, however, progressively decreases (<90⁰) in the contact ball phase. This angle change indicates muscle shortening through concentric contractions in the adnominal and obliges (core muscles) areas which are assumed to be an energy storage process in the core area by involving the glutes, hamstrings, lumbar, pelvis, and hip muscles which will then be used to kick the ball (El-Kerdi, 2016). This is following the principle of force in biomechanics, where it is explained that to move a ball as an object takes a greater force than the ball as a mover (Ma & Gao, 2018). ...

This study aimed to analyze the kinematical characteristics values of accurate penalty-kicking for Turkish football players in goalkeeper confrontation. Fifteen male Turkish Regional Amateur League players (Age: 21.08± 1.56 years old) was scanned, by two video cameras synchronous in two-dimensional (2D), placed at optical axes X&Y. the best three tries of penalty kicking performance were analyzed by video analysis Dartfish 9.0 software. Standard statistical methods were used for the calculation of mean±sd, Pearson test for the correlations between all variables. A value of p-value ≤ 0.05 was considered a threshold of statistical significance. The results were shown in the ball contact phase that the distance pivot foot & ball factor has a statistically significant effect in producing accuracy (p-value=.001), and the interaction between two main factors namely the trunk and inclination body angles has a statistically significant effect with a p-value≤.05 in producing accuracy too. In addition, in the followthrough phase, we can see too the statistically significant effect in p-value≤.005 of the trunk angle, and in pvalue≤.05 of the thighs angle in producing accuracy. As a conclusion, it can be conveyed that the distance between the support leg and the ball is very decisive for the kinematic profile formed such as contraction of the abdominal muscles (trunk angle), the amortization process (the pivot leg angle), shot power (angle and length of the shot leg swing trajectory), where these aspects are significantly affected to the shot power, ball velocity and the level of accuracy.

Plyometric training (PT) is a very popular form of physical conditioning for healthy individuals that have been extensively studied over the last decades. The study aimed to determine the effect of PT on improving vertical jump (VJ) in female footballers (14-17 years old). The study adopted a pretest-posttest quasi-experimental design. The study population was the female football players of the National Women's Football League in Algeria (LNFF). Twenty-two players were drawn from the study population (age=15.10±0.47 years, height=152.01±5.80 cm, weight=49.51±6.09 kg). The sample was divided into a control group (CG) and an experimental group (EG). Eleven players per group. The training program was made for the participants and the exercise training was supervised by the researchers. The PT exercises for the EG in which each exercise session involved 15±3 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise for the first four weeks and gradually increased to high-intensity exercises for the last six weeks. The PT was carried out for 10 weeks. Subjects were trained three times a week. A squat jump (SJ) and a counter-movement jump (CMJ) were used for data collection. Data were analyzed using mean and standard deviation, the paired t-test was used to compare pre-test and post-test data. The results marked improvements in VJ after the 10-week PT as significant gains were noticed in the post-test for EG on SJ t= 8.35, p< 0.05, CMJ t=5.70, p

The aim of this study is to analyze kinematical variables of discus throw activity in Para-Athletics F57 and to investigate their relationships with digital level achievement. International Para-athlete "Saifi Nassima" participated voluntarily in this study. The athlete throwed the discus with her right arm. Recordings were made by synching cameras (AEE MagicCam, 170° view, MOV Format Video, 720p Video Resolution, 120 ips NTFS, Screen Resolution 1280*720 16:9) for side and rear views by a LANC (CONTROL-L) device. The athlete wore reflective markers to track their motions on joints of the wrists, the elbows, the shoulders, the hip center, and down the neck with the least possible number of occlusions, to analyze the length and angle of movement by the x and y axis. The best six throws during the first and second phases (start and finish throwing) of the discus throw were included for analysis in two-dimensional by Dartfish.9 software. Means, standard deviations, minimum and maximum values were applied as descriptive statistics, and Pearson test for the correlations between all variables. As a result, there was a positive significant correlation of digital level with cubitus angle of the throwing hand (p< .001), trunk angle (p< .005) in the first phase, and with disk flight time (p< .005), throwing angle (p< .001) in the second phase. In conclusion, we confirm that the increase in the values of the variables of distance shot from the armrest, and the wrist angle of the shooting hand in the first phase of throwing, affects the digital level achievement. The decrease in the value of the throwing angle variable in the second phase of throwing affects the digital level achievement.

The identification of mechanical variables in the motor performance trajectory has a prominent role in improving skill performance, error-exceeding, it contributes seriously to solving some problems of learning and training. The study Aims to highlight the indicators of motor performance for Paralympic athletes during the practicing sports between modelling and between excellences in motor performance, this by taking into account the distinction of athlete practicing with special behavioral skills for the Paralympic athletes. In the study we relied on the analysis of some previous research of biomechanical performance indicators during some of the events sports (shooting activities in the Paralympic athletics, shooting skill in the wheelchair basketball). The results of the study highlight the distinction of disabled practitioners of sporting events identified in motor performance during practice, by overcoming some physics indicators in human movement, as a lower centre of body weight, Increase in offset distance, such resistance which requires them to redouble their efforts. However, the results of the study highlighted the strength of the correlation between biomechanical variables of motor performance and the digital level achievement similar to the other practitioners normal.

The purpose of this study was to identify those kinematic characteristics that are most closely related to the functional classification of a wheelchair athlete and measured distance of a javelin throw. Two S-VHS camcorders (60 field·s(-1)) were used to record the performance of 15 males of different classes. Each subject performed 6-10 throws and the best two legal throws from each subject were selected for analysis. Three-dimensional kinematics of the javelin and upper body segments at the instant of release and during the throw (delivery) were determined. The selection of kinematic parameters that were analyzed in this study was based on a javelin throw model showing the factors that determine the measured distance of a throw. The average of two throws for each subject was used to compute Spearman rank correlation coefficients between selected parameters and measured distance, and between selected parameters and the functional classification. The speeds and angles of the javelin at release, ranged from 9.1 to 14.7 m·s(-1) and 29.6 to 35.8°, respectively, were smaller than those exhibited by elite male able-bodied throwers. As expected, the speed of the javelin at release was significantly correlated to both the classification (p<0.01) and measured distance (p<0.001). Of the segmental kinematic parameters, significant correlations were found between the trunk inclination at release and classification and between the angular speed at release and measured distance (p<0.01 for both). The angular speed of the shoulder girdle at release and the average angular speeds of the shoulder girdle during the delivery were significantly correlated to both the classification and measured distance (p<0.05). The results indicate that shoulder girdle movement during the delivery is an important determinant of classification and measured distance.

Sport and recreation are cornerstones of how we define ourselves as human beings and the competitive spirit is just as prominent in individuals with disabilities as it is in their able-bodied counterparts. Wheelchair sports were initially developed following WWII as a rehabilitation tool to care for the young men and women injured during the war. Today athletes with disabilities are narrowing the gap in competition between the impaired and the unimpaired through training, advancement of technology, and the competitive spirit and ingenuity of the seated athlete. This article examines a number of factors related to maximizing performance and the prevention of injury in wheelchair sport. Physical and technological considerations for various wheelchair sports will be discussed including; metabolic demands, equipment selection, configuration, advances in technology and performance measurement as well as directions for future research.

Competitive sports for people with disabilities has grown rapidly over the past several decades, and opportunities for participation are increasingly available throughout the spectrum from developmental to elite. The Paralympic Games, seen as the pinnacle sporting event that represents the broader Paralympic Movement, has provided a platform to showcase the abilities of people with disabilities while also serving as a catalyst for disability rights through ensuring integration, equality of opportunity, and accessibility of the built environment. Concurrently, media coverage of the Paralympic Games has led to an increased awareness of opportunities for sport participation for individuals with disabilities and, with it, the adjustment of norms regarding expectations for exercise as a component of preventive health. In addition, there is evidence of the power of sports to stimulate confidence, self-efficacy, and a self-perceived high quality of life for individuals with disabilities above and beyond the basic benefits to cardiometabolic fitness. When taken together, the promotion of health, disability rights, and social integration through sports has the power to transform the lives of those who participate and to further stimulate the expansion of opportunities available to the next generation of athletes with disabilities.

Physical activity has been associated with improvements in walking mobility and quality of life in persons with multiple sclerosis (MS), and yet this population is largely sedentary and inactive compared with the general population. We conducted a pilot, randomized controlled trial (RCT) for examining the effect of an Internet intervention based on social cognitive theory (SCT) for favorably increasing physical activity among persons with MS. We further examined variables from SCT as possible mediators of the Internet intervention. We randomly allocated 54 persons with MS into either an Internet intervention condition or a waitlist control condition. The participants completed measures of physical activity, self-efficacy, outcome expectations, functional limitations, and goal setting before and after the 12-week period. The intervention group reported a statistically significant (p = 0.01) and large increase in physical activity over time (d = 0.72), whereas the control group had a small (d = 0.04) and non-significant change in physical activity (p = 0.71). The intervention group further reported a statistically significant (p = 0.001) and large increase in goal setting over time (d = 0.97), whereas the control group had a small (d = -0.13) and non-significant change (p = 0.17). The change in goal setting over time mediated the effect of the Internet intervention on physical activity behavior. This pilot study sets the stage for a subsequent RCT that includes a larger sample of persons with MS, longer intervention period along with a follow-up, objective measure of physical activity, and secondary outcomes of walking mobility and QOL.

Wheelchair sports are an important tool in the rehabilitation of people with severe chronic disabilities and have been a driving force for innovation in technology and practice. In this paper, we will present an overview of the adaptive technology used in Paralympic sports with a special focus on wheeled technology and the impact of design on performance (defined as achieving the greatest level of athletic ability and minimizing the risk of injury). Many advances in manual wheelchairs trace their origins to wheelchair sports. Features of wheelchairs that were used for racing and basketball 25 or more years ago have become integral to the manual wheelchairs that people now use every day; moreover, the current components used on ultralight wheelchairs also have benefitted from technological advances developed for sports wheelchairs. For example, the wheels now used on chairs for daily mobility incorporate many of the components first developed for sports chairs. Also, advances in manufacturing and the availability of aerospace materials have driven current wheelchair design and manufacture. Basic principles of sports wheelchair design are universal across sports and include fit; minimizing weight while maintaining high stiffness; minimizing rolling resistance; and optimizing the sports-specific design of the chair. However, a well-designed and fitted wheelchair is not sufficient for optimal sports performance: the athlete must be well trained, skilled, and use effective biomechanics because wheelchair athletes face some unique biomechanical challenges.

Paralympic sports have seen an exponential increase in participation since 16 patients took part in the first Stoke Mandeville Games on the opening day of the 1948 London Olympic Games. More than 4,000 athletes took part in the London 2012 Paralympic Games. Few sporting events have seen such rapid evolution. This rapid pace of change also has meant challenges for understanding the injury risks of participation, not only because of the variety of sports, impairment types, the evolution of adapted equipment but also because of the inclusion of additional impairment types and development of new sports over time. Early studies were limited in scope but patterns of injuries are slowly emerging within Winter and Summer Paralympic sports. The IPC's London 2012 study is the largest to date with a prospective cohort study involving 49,910 athlete-days. The results identified large differences across sports and highlighted the need for longitudinal sport specific studies rather than solely games-time studies. This will require collaboration with international sports federations to examine injury patterns and risk factors for injury in this population to appropriately inform injury prevention strategies. Further studies will also need to address the impact of sporting participation, injury, and future health.

People with disabilities often depend on assistive devices to enable activities of daily living as well as to compete in sport. Technological developments in sport can be controversial. To review, identify and describe current technological developments in assistive devices used in the summer Paralympic Games; and to prepare for the London 2012 Games, the future challenges and the role of technology are debated. A systematic review of the peer-reviewed literature and personal observations of technological developments at the Athens (2004) and Beijing (2008) Paralympic Games was conducted. Standard assistive devices can inhibit the Paralympians' abilities to perform the strenuous activities of their sports. Although many Paralympic sports only require technology similar to their Olympic counterparts, several unique technological modifications have been made in prosthetic and wheelchair devices. Technology is essential for the Paralympic athlete, and the potential technological advantage for a Paralympian, when competing against an Olympian, is unclear. Technology must match the individual requirements of the athlete with the sport in order for Paralympians to safely maximise their performance. Within the 'performance enhancement or essential for performance?' debate, any potential increase in mechanical performance from an assistive device must be considered holistically with the compensatory consequences the disability creates. To avoid potential technology controversies at the 2012 London Olympic and Paralympic Games, the role of technology in sport must be clarified.
