Abstract. The presence of Spilostethus furcula (Herrich-Schäffer, 1850) on the Balearic Islands is
confirmed. Particularly, a recent record of the species on the island of Ibiza is reported.
Information on the known distribution of the species in Europe is summarized.

Confirmación de la presencia de Spilostethus furcula (Herrich-Schäffer, 1850) (Heteroptera:
Lygaeidae) en las Islas Baleares (España)
Resumen. Se confirma la presencia de Spilostethus furcula (Herrich-Schäffer, 1850) en las Islas
Baleares. En particular, se reporta un registro reciente de la especie en la isla de Ibiza. Se resume
la información sobre la distribución conocida de la especie en Europa.

Confirmation of the presence of Spilostethus furcula (Herrich-Schäffer,
1850) (Heteroptera: Lygaeidae) on the Balearic Islands (Spain)
So far, the Afrotropical lygaeid
Spilostethus furcula (Herrich-Schäffer,
1850) has been reported from the
following European countries: Spain
(Linnavuori, 1978; Péricart, 1998, 2001;
Goula & Mata, 2011; Ghahari & Moulet,
2012; Vivas, 2012), Portugal (Goula &
Mata, 2011; Vivas, 2012), France (Dioli et
al., 2019; Piednoir et al., 2019), Greece
(Piednoir et al., 2019; van der Heyden,
2019) and Italy (Dioli et al., 2019;
Piednoir et al., 2019).
Goula & Mata (2011), referring to
photographs published on the internet,
reported the presence of S. furcula on the
Balearic Islands, but did not provide more
specific data. Vivas (2012) reported one
specimen of this species found in Santa
Ponsa on the island of Mallorca in August
2011.
Hasta el momento, el Ligeido
afrotropical Spilostethus furcula (Herrich-
Schäffer, 1850) ha sido registrado en los
siguientes países europeos: España
(Linnavuori, 1978; Péricart, 1998, 2001;
Goula & Mata, 2011; Ghahari & Moulet,
2012; Vivas, 2012), Portugal (Goula &
Mata, 2011; Vivas, 2012), Francia (Dioli
et al., 2019; Piednoir et al., 2019), Grecia
(Piednoir et al., 2019; van der Heyden,
2019) e Italia (Dioli et al., 2019; Piednoir
et al., 2019).
Goula & Mata (2011), refiriéndose a
fotografías publicadas en internet,
informaron de la presencia de S. furcula
en las Islas Baleares, pero no
proporcionaron datos más específicos.
Vivas (2012) reportó un espécimen de la
especie encontrado en Santa Ponsa en la
isla de Mallorca en agosto de 2011.

The presence of S. furcula on the
Balearic Islands can be confirmed: On
15.IX.2020, photographs of an adult
specimen were taken in the city of
Pollença, located in the northern part of
Mallorca. The photographs were uploaded
to the online database iNaturalist by a user
with the pseudonym aimnair (2020).
Furthermore, several photographs of an
adult specimen of S. furcula (Fig. 1) were
taken in Ibiza Town on 24.IX.2020 by
Jacobo Krauel. The specimen was found
on Solanum sp. (Solanaceae). One
photograph of the observed specimen was
published by Jacobo Krauel -under the
pseudonym mammal (2020)- in the online
database iNaturalist. This seems to be the
first record of S. furcula for the island of
Ibiza.
Se puede confirmar la presencia de S.
furcula en las Islas Baleares: El
15.IX.2020 se tomaron fotografías de un
ejemplar adulto en la ciudad de Pollença,
situada en la zona norte de Mallorca. Las
fotografías fueron subidas a la base de
datos en línea iNaturalist por un usuario
con el seudónimo aimnair (2020).
Además, Jacobo Krauel tomó varias
fotografías de un ejemplar adulto de S.
furcula (Fig. 1) en la ciudad de Ibiza el
24.IX.2020. El espécimen se encontró en
Solanum sp. (Solanaceae). Una fotografía
del espécimen observado fue publicada
por Jacobo Krauel -bajo el seudónimo de
mammal (2020)- en la base de datos en
línea iNaturalist. Este parece ser el primer
registro de S. furcula para la isla de Ibiza.
