Entrepreneurship in Kuwait through the Eyes of Global Entrepreneurship Index (GEI)

Also, we shed light on Kuwait’s entrepreneurship performance (ecosystem) in comparison with GCC countries. The findings presented in this study can contribute to offer tailor-made policy suggestions to improve upon areas hindering entrepreneurship development in Kuwait.

Entrepreneurship in Emerging Economies: The Role of Corruption and Rule of Law

Although emerging economies have become key players in the new global economy, they are struggling to sustain economic growth and development. In this realm, entrepreneurship has been considered as a driving force for economic growth and development. This study contributes to the literature of entrepreneurship by examining the moderating role of corruption on the relationship between the rule of ... [Show full abstract] law and entrepreneurial activity, measured by new entry rates, in 42 emerging economies between 2002 and 2014. It suggests that the effectiveness of the rule of law on entrepreneurial activity is contingent upon the lower levels of corruption. Our results showed that the rule of law has a significant effect on new entry rates only when control of corruption is strong. Implications are drawn for aspiring entrepreneurs, policy and future research.

[Show full abstract] draws on extensive market research, including collecting high-quality data gathered from 2,092 interviews with residents of Kuwait (between the ages of 18 and 64 years) across all nationalities and genders. The data also gathered 37 carefully chosen Kuwait National Experts across nine framework categories. This study comes at a critical juncture where Kuwait faces unprecedented challenges of global pandemic compounded by an unstable oil price. Therefore, the GEM Kuwait National Report 2020/21 measures the entrepreneurial activity in Kuwait across several dimensions. The study provides insights into the perceptions, attitudes, and activities of Kuwait’s entrepreneurs. The National Report is highly valuable in assessing the entrepreneurship ecosystem in Kuwait, outlines strengths and areas of improvement for entrepreneurial development across the country. The report also examines the level of entrepreneurial activity compared to other economies in the region and internationally. I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the GEM National Team for this rich report. Also, we would like to thank everyone involved in this collective effort with particular appreciation to our sponsor Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS). Finally, we address the possible main lines of future developments for AI, entrepreneurship and economic growth.
