This is a book on mental health for media professionals, it consists of the 5 chapters: the first chapter describes why and how the basic knowledge on mental health could be beneficial for media professionals (media educators, media-managers and journalists), describes linkage of mental health and human rights issues referring to the history of psychiatry, stigma and discrimination towards people with mental health problems, and political abuse of psychiatry in the Soviet Union. The second chapter describes common mental health disorders, less common mental health disorders and contemporary principles and approaches to mental health care. The third chapter describes self-care methods for journalists. The fourth chapter describes what should be taken into consideration by media while covering mental health related issues. The fifth chapter contains useful appendixes (guidelines from from relevant organizations on covering suicide, homicide and other tragedies.
