Employing Internet Resources for the Professional Development of the English Language Teachers

Abstract

The advent of the internet technology has created new opportunities for language teaching and learning. The teachers of English can gain access to a variety of authentic materials to promote language proficiency. The Web is an invaluable source of information for the teachers to access good materials. Although there is a plethora of materials and workbooks found to teach English language, most of these are traditional and curb enthusiasm. Materials are updated regularly on many websites of good quality and which also be source for teachers to download material, activities etc. of their requirement.
Furthermore, language resources are divided into Beginners, Intermediate and Advance levels in internet. It helps teachers to choose and use in their classrooms according to their students’ level. The present paper aspires to present how the selected internet resources can become repository of information for teachers. It has four objectives: 1. To prepare teachers employing on-line learning materials as supplements to enhance language skills 2. To explain how these resources are motivating and interesting for teachers and their students. 3. To examine the online learning materials available in different ELT websites for effective language learning.
