It was found, that the most important reasons for choosing programs of primary education studies were wish to become a teacher of primary school, the aim of seeking a degree of higher education and opportunity to enter the higher school. It may be asserted, that the reasons when making decisions on teacher as a profession, depend on the social – economic situation of the country. Despite of, traditional choices which influence decisions on teacher as a profession remain as wish to work with children, preliminary interest in the teacher’s profession, etc. Motivation of the students, would-be teachers of primary school, is not very high. Only 35.3% of respondents are content with their choice of profession, and only 35.8% of those are going to work at school after their studies. The latter tendency is constantly getting stronger. Only a quarter of respondents is content with quality of their studies. It was noticed, that when studying, the students of the third and fourth year, were more critical in this respect. They reproach more often for the subjects they are studying, emphasizing the lack of methodical-practical preparation for the future work at school. When qualifying teachers, becoming a professional, is very important. Thus, the social – economic situation wouldn’t strangle advancing of the teacher.
Key words: primary school, motivation of the students.
