Abstract
Rooftop solar power plant provide several benefits such as self-reliance in
electricity in a cost effective manner, insurance against future increases in
electricity tariff, environment sustainability utilizing unused roof space. This plant
is of 2KW, in which we are connecting all our level-4 electrical load on the solar
panel. We are trying to consume more energy from the sun and utilize it for our
electricity demand. The components are used in this system are six 325W solar
panel, GI structure, inverter, lightning arrester. Apart from this we are reducing the
consumption of power from the grid by auditing .We also replaced tube lights by
LEDs and using efficient wiring. This paper represents a case study of grid type
solar panel on the roof top of block-7 at Chandigarh University, so that we can
supply energy to grid when it’s a holiday and if our consumption increases we can
also take it from the grid. This project is a step toward renewable energy utilization
which reduce the cost of electricity and provide better electrical supply to the
department.

1. Introduction To Solar Power
Solar energy is the energy that is used by
eve spinning systems to radiate heat and
energy from the sun. Solar photovoltaic,
solar architecture comparable to solar
heating. Fossil fuels such as oil, natural gas,
and coal have historically met the world's
electrical needs[1-2]. However, these energy
sources have two major negative impacts:
• They play a larger role in global warming
and acid rain runoff, which has a negative
effect on the atmosphere for many animals,
plants and human beings.
• Few countries have complete access to
fossil-fuel energy supplies, contributing to
global political and economic uncertainty.
Solar energy is the perfect option, and is a
renewable fuel, meaning it won't become
inaccessible. It offers a constant, limitless
supply over time. Energy is also a green
energy source, since it does not release
toxins during the process of energy
production as shown in Figure 1. [3]

Indian scenario
As on the Gregorian calendar month, India
is stratified eleventh in world solar energy
production. August 2014. In the Asian
country, government-funded solar power
accounted for just six.4MW / yr. As of 2005,
of strength. Twenty-five.1MW of capacity
was additional in 2010, and 468.3MW in
2011. Capacity rises twice over in 2012 and
becomes 1205 MW. Additional capacity of
1114MW across 2013, and additional
capacity of 313MW across 2014.
In August 2015, the capacity for solar power
linked to the grid is 4.22 GW. Solar power's
value has dropped back from Rs. 17.90 per
unit in 2010 to Rs. 7 per unit in 2015. It is
expected that solar energy will be able to
achieve grid parity by 2017-18 with
technological development and market
rivalry as shown in Figure 2. The parity of
the grid means that the value of electricity
produced from energy is equal to the value
of the grid purchasing power.
Grid parity within the scheme and preferably
electric phenomenon panel is extremely vital
term. The Charanka star park, currently 224
MW in size, was commissioned on April 19,
2012 as the largest star park in Asia. Any
Asian nation Solar Power Plant. In India,
Rajasthan has 28.4 percent of the largest
share of solar energy generation and Gujarat
has 20.4 percent of the total solar energy as
at Sep 2015. [6]

3. Problem Formulation and Objectives
Nowadays, the whole world is using
electricity and without it, it is impossible to
imagine a life. Electricity dependency is
being growing day by day. Coal and oil are
the main sources of energy production, both
generating emissions and impacting on the
environment. Through depending on these
non-renewable energy sources, electricity
costs can rise exponentially, and potentially
become too costly to build into power
stations. And as these are renewable sources
means they will definite finished in 30-40
years. To solve these cost and pollution
issues the focus is giving to solar energy and

Watts, then No. of panels required
for 2kw,
= 2 * 1000/325
= 6.153 , approx 6 solar PV panels
2.
Area : Area requirement for 1 Kw
power generation by solar PV system

Area required for 2 Kw power
generation by solar PV system =
100*2 = 200 sq ft (shadow free area)
3.
Number of units generated by 1kw
solar PV system assuming 5 Hrs of
bright sun in a day,
( Energy = Power * time = Kw*Hr)

For 2kw solar PV system,

Amount of electricity bill saved
using 2 kw solar PV system
Assuming cost of 1 unit electricity =

Electricity bill saved/day = units

kwh * 7 Rs = 70 Rs
Monthly electricity bill saved ,

= 2100 Rs
Yearly electricity bill saved,
= 2100 Rs * 12months = 25,200 Rs

If cost required for 1Kw of Solar PV
system installation is 62000 Rs,
then cost required for 2 Kw of Solar
PV system installation = 62000 *
2Kw =1,24,000 Rs
As per CREST (Chandigarh
renewable energy and Science &
technology), 30% subsidy is allowed
on solar PV system installation
After 30% subsidy, the total cost of
2Kw solar PV system installation
comes to :
= 30/100 * 124000 Rs
= 37,200 Rs (subsidy discount)
Net initial cost of The System = 1,24,000 –
37,200 = 86,800 Rs

4. Application and future scope
Solar panel can used in domestic as well as
in commercial places to provide clean, eco-
friendly, cheap, renewable source of
energy. Solar energy is used to provide
supply to the department all appliances like
fan, tube light, exhaust fan, projector, etc.
As the solar panel life is 25+ years, but the
cleaning of the panel is needed it will

automatic wiper to clean the panels
regularly for better performance.The solar

particular angle so we can also make the
panels rotating with respect to the sun
radiations so we can get the maximum solar
energy.To make more efficient power
supply we can also use the natural life for

wiring with AI.
5. Conclusion
Solar energy has the capability to provide all
of the energy we need for our word. We
have to spend more money on the
development of solar energy and it’s a
onetime investment. Once the solar power
plant installed the maintenance is nil and the
life of panels are also 25+ years. In this
project we

so we can connect our load to the
solar panel and utilize the energy of
sun. And also reduce the demand
from grid which is more costly.
•
