Balanced model of the folded sedimentary cover of the Greater Caucasus as a source of information about geodynamic processes on the scale of the lithosphere - statistical approach

Abstract

A balanced model of the sedimentary cover of the Greater Caucasus was compiled based on detailed structural sections. This model has collected six parameters for 78 "structural cells" with an average size of 5-7 km, which are related to the geodynamic development of the earth's crust. These parameters are the depth of the basement top at three stages of the structure development: before the formation of folding, after folding and after mountain uplift; the value of shortening of "cells" , etc. Factor analysis of these data array, which explains the variance of all parameters and the internal structure of their mutual correlations, showed the presence of two processes ("ISOSTASY", weight 47% and "SHORTENING", weight 40%), which are associated with changes in the density of the crust and mantle rocks. The first process, as a result of folding and mountain uplift, returns the level of the basement top to the depth at which it was before shortening and folding. In the second process, the amplitude of the neotectonic uplift depends on the shortening value. It is shown that the development of the Greater Caucasus since the Jurassic period is associated with a strong degradation of the thickness of the crystalline layer of the earth's crust.
