Authors:

Abstract and Figures

According to the World Health Organization (WHO) reports that 2-25% of preschool age children suffer from minor brain dysfunction, including impaired fine motor development, in Indonesia around 16% of children experience impaired fine motor development. Fine motor development involves certain body parts performed by small muscles. How to stimulate fine motor skills in children has a very large function, namely to increase the movement of fine activities such as writing, drawing, and typing. The impact that will occur if the child has a disruption in fine motor development that can cause cerebral palcy. To determine the effect of coloring pictures on fine motor development in children aged 4-5 years. This type of research is pre-experimental and conducted in Al-Munawar Kindergarten, Nanggung District with respondents, namely children aged 4-5 years using Total Sampling. The instrument used was an observation sheet. Knowing univariate analysis before given coloring treatment 50% of children in the category of undeveloped and after being given coloring treatment 50% of children in the development category as expected. Bivariate analysis using the normality test using Shapiro Wilk with the results of 0,000 <0.05 means that the data is not normally distributed, after that to test the hypothesis using Willcoxon with a P value of 0,000 <0.05, it means that Ha is accepted. Knowing fine motor development of the respondents 50% of respondents fall into the category of undeveloped with a mean value of 1.87 and a standard deviation of 0.937. Knowing fine motor development of 50% of respondents included in the category of developing according to expectations with a mean value of 2.90 and a standard deviation of 0.712. I. INTRODUCTION
Children under five as a golden age or "golden age"
that is human beings aged 0-6 years (Law no. 20 of 2003),
although some experts say children under five are vulnerable
children aged 0-8 years. Developments experienced during
the golden age are physical, cognitive, linguistic, emotional,
adaptive, social, personal, and motoric [1].
In Indonesia the number of children under five years
old is 23.7 million or around 10.4% of the total population of
Indonesia [2]. The number of children aged 1-5 years in the
West Java area there are 5.6 million children [3] and the
number of children aged 4-5 years in Bogor Regency is
113,232 children [2].
In general, growth has certain characteristics, namely
changes in body proportions that can be observed in infancy
and adulthood, irregular growth rates and are characterized
by certain periods of prenatal, infant and adolescence, where
rapid growth occurs. World health organitation (WHO)
reports that 2-25% of preschool-aged children suffer from
minor brain dysfunction, including impaired fine motor
development [4]. Globally reported children who experience
disorders in the form of anxiety around 9%, easy emotions
11-15%, behavior disorders 9-15% [5].
The number of children under five in Indonesia
experienced 0.4 million fine motor and gross motor
development disorders or around 16% [4]. Student
prevalence rate (growth inhibition) in toddlers is around
24.5%. Monitoring of the growth of children under five
every month shows that the percentage of toddlers aged 6-59
months who have never been weighed in the last 6 months
tends to increase from 25.5% in 2007, 23.8% in 2010, to
34.4% in 2013. Disorders speech and language development
is often found in children aged 3-16 years. It is estimated
that the incidence rate ranges from 1% to 32% in the normal
population [2]. The purpose of this study was to determine
the effect of coloring pictures on fine motor development in
children aged 4-5 years group A in Al-Munawar
Kindergarten, Nanggung District, Bogor Regency.
II. RESEARCH METHODS
This study uses the one group pre-test and post test
design method by giving a pre-test (initial observation)
before giving intervention. After that the intervention is
given, then post test (final observation). This research was
conducted at Al-Munawar Kindergarten. By taking a total
sampling of the population.
The variables of this study consisted of the influence
of coloring pictures and fine motor development in children
aged 4-5 years. Data processing and data analysis using
computer programs. The analysis consisted of univariate and
bivariate analysis, where bivariate analysis analyzed the
effect of coloring pictures on fine motor development in

Based on the results of table 7 about the bivariate
analysis of the pretest and posttest data hypothesis the
effect of coloring pictures on fine motor development in
children aged 4-5 years was obtained from the hypothesis
test data using Will Coxon before and after the treatment of
coloring pictures was 0,000 (<0, 05). This means that there
is an effect of coloring pictures on fine motor development
in children aged 4-5 years, Ha is accepted
Univariate
Based on the data obtained from the univariate
results, there is a value of the frequency distribution of fine
motor development before being given a coloring treatment
of the 30 respondents most of which fall into the
underdeveloped category of 50%, the mean value is 1.89
and the standard deviation value is 0.937. While the
frequency distribution values after being given treatment
coloring pictures of 30 respondents mostly fall into the
category of developing according to expectations of 50%,
the mean value of 2.90 and the standard deviation value of
0.712. Judging from the values before and after the
treatment of animals, there are differences in values that
increase. Coloring is a favorite activity for children,
especially for children who want to learn to recognize
colors. In this activity children are given the freedom to
choose colors and combine colors. Coloring is a skill that is
loved by children. coloring is also a medium for them to
express their imagination and inspiration about everything
that has been touched and experienced [6].
This is in accordance with research conducted by
Niluh Sri Murdian [7] This study uses data collection
techniques, observation and assignments. The results
obtained before given the task of coloring pictures of the
number of respondents 25 there is a mean value of 1.58 and
after given the coloring activity there is a mean value of
2.65 where there are 80% of children have sufficient fine
motor skills, and there are 4% of children have less fine
motor skills
Bivariate
Based on the data obtained from the hypothesis test
data using Will Coxon before and after the treatment of
coloring pictures is 0,000 (0.05), it means that there is an
effect of coloring pictures on fine motor development in
children aged 4-5 years. As the physical development of
children aged 4-5 years, the child's motor development can
be coordinated. Each activity is aligned with their needs or
interests. At this time marked by excess movement or
motor skills that are very agile, therefore, this age is an
ideal time to learn skills related to fine motor development,
namely by drawing, painting and typing [3].
The factors that influence fine motor development
include the development of the nervous system, physical
abilities that make it possible to move, children's desire to
motivate to move, supportive environment, aspects of the
child's psychology, age, sex, genetic and chromosomal
abnormalities [8].
The results of this study are in line with research
conducted by Aprilena [9]. Based on the results of research
that by using drawing media with various crayons can
improve fine motor skills in children. Based on the research
results obtained by the first cycle with an average value of
31% and in the second cycle increased to 91% results p
value = 0.001.
IV. CONCLUSION
It is known that fine motor development before being
given coloring treatment pictures of respondents there are
50 % of respondents in the undeveloped category with a
mean value of 1.87 and the standard deviation value is 0.937
Knowing fine motor development after being given a
coloring treatment picture of the respondents there are 50%
of respondents in the category of developing according to
expectations with a mean value of 2.90 and the standard
deviation value is 0.712

... Pen grip kinetics during writing tasks in school-aged children significantly correlate with fine motor performance, especially manual dexterity (Lin et al., 2017). Coloring activities significantly improve children's motor skills, including gripping and controlling writing tools (Fitrianingsih & Sari, 2019). Through coloring, children learn to control small muscles in their hands, which are crucial for skills such as writing and drawing (Jannah, 2022). ...

Gross motor skills are essential to develop from an early age as they support children’s coordination, health, and overall development. Proper stimulation through play and educational learning effectively enhances motor abilities and prevents developmental delays. This study aims to analyze and explain the effectiveness of educational learning in optimally developing gross motor skills in early childhood. The research used a qualitative case study method with data collection techniques including interviews, observations, and documentation, while data validity was ensured through triangulation. The results show that the “Senam Sehat Anak Indonesia” activity trains the ability to lift hands and feet, move the head flexibly, and stretch the body. Prayer (Sholat) develops hand, head, and body movements, as well as muscle strength to support body weight. Ablution (Wudhu’) strengthens the back and hands through the act of opening taps and washing the body. Activities like beading, letter sequencing, and coloring improve balance, hand endurance, and finger-wrist flexibility through coordinated movements. Conclusion: Educational learning can stimulate various forms of gross motor skills in early childhood.
... Developmental delays are more often caused by lack of time to learn motor skills, due to overprotection of caregivers or lack of motivation to learn. 15 Impaired fine motor development without receiving early and adequate treatment, most likely will end up with a disability. Frequent health check-up to neonatal specialist is also very important to detect developmental disorders in children. ...

Background: The growth and development of children involve physical changes and other several aspects, namely fine and gross motor, cognitive, language, emotional and social. Growth and development of children isinfluenced by internal and external factors. Children who received positive stimulations from the surroundingenvironment will help them grow and develop optimally. Puzzle play can be an option to stimulate the growthand development of preschool aged children.Aim: This study is aimed to determine the effect of puzzle stimulation on fine motor development of preschoolaged children.Methodology: The design of this study was quasi-experimental which involved one group pretest and posttestdesign approach, using observation sheet with DDST (Denver Developmental Screening Test) rating scaleinstrument. The study was conducted at Leuwiliang Village in Bogor District with a total sample of 23 parents orcaregivers of children. The data analysis techniques used were univariate and bivariate with Wilcoxon Rank Test.Result: Out of 23 participants, 14 participants (60,9%) had suspected delay before stimulation and 19 participants(82.6%) had normal fine motor development after puzzle stimulation. Conclusion: There was a significant effect of puzzle stimulation in fine motor development of preschool agedchildren.
... 8 The most common disorders found were fine motor disorders. 9 Fine motor skills are movements that use smooth muscles or certain parts of the body, which are influenced by opportunities to learn and practice, for example: the ability to move objects from the hands, scribble, arrange blocks, cut, write, and so on. 10 This fine motor development can be achieved with practice, for example by practicing writing, scribbling, or squeezing wax. ...

Backgrounds: Child development involves few main aspects: cognitive, speech and language, fine motor, grossmotor and social emotional development. Many preschool-aged children suffer from neurodevelopmentaldisorder, including impaired fine motor development. We can use our hands in a coordinated way due to finemotor abilities. We depend on these abilities to complete important tasks in play, education, and daily life. Earlyinfancy is where fine motor skill development starts and it lasts through preschool and the first few years ofprimary school.Aim: This study aimed to determine the effect of busy book stimulation in fine motor development of preschoolchildren.Methodology: This study used pre-experimental with one group pretest posttest design. The instrument usedwas observation sheet. The total sample was 20 children who attended Sunshine Preschool, Bogor, Indonesia. Thesampling method was Saturated Sampling. The Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test used to test whether or not there wasa significant difference between two population means.Result: The results of the pre-test showed that out of 20 participants, 11 participants had deviant fine motordevelopment (55%). The post-test showed that out of 20 participants, 17 participants (85%) had proper finemotor development. In the intervention group, the average fine motor development of children before busy bookstimulation was 62.47 ± 7.539, while after busy book stimulation it increased to 86.08 ± 4.104. The statistical testresults of the Wilcoxon signed ranks test obtained a p-value 0.000 (p-value <0.05).Conclusion: There was a significant effect of busy book stimulation in fine motor development of preschoolchildren.
... Fine motor development develops rapidly when the child is three years old; at this time, the child begins to be interested in holding a pencil and doing writing movements, although this movement seems stiff (Nugroho et al., 2021). Coloring pictures is an activity that can form fine motor activities; many techniques and materials that can be selected in drawing coloring activities, such as colored pencils, crayons, ink brushes, and markers, can be an option (Fitrianingsih et al., 2019). ...

This study examines the stimulation of children's fine motor skills through image coloring activities in group B of Dharma Wanita Majauleng Kindergarten, Wajo Regency. This research uses a quantitative approach with the type of research, the one-group pretest-posttest design. The sample in this study was 11 children. The data collection technique uses Pretest–Posttest Design, and the results are analyzed using descriptive quantitative. The results of the image coloring activity on the improvement of children's delicate motor stimulation showed that the measurement data from the pretest, the fine motor ability of students in the learning completion value of the low category. The results of post-test scores show that the average value of students' fine motor skills is very high, with classical learning completion scores achieved by all children. This study shows that the activity of coloring children's drawings can train children's strength in holding writing stationery so that students are trained to develop their fine motor skills.

Importance: Coloring is popular with preschool children and reveals their developmental state. However, interpreting coloring performances is challenging because descriptive and subjective evaluations are commonly used with large variations. Objective: To develop a scoring method to objectively quantify children’s coloring skills. Design: Colored blank train templates were analyzed using four indicators (entropy, complexity, coloring outside the lines, and unexpected blank areas) to form a summed score. Setting: Kindergarten in a urban city (Tainan, Taiwan). Participants: Two hundred thirty-nine typically developing children ages 3 to 6 yr. Outcome and Measures: A newly developed method to assess coloring skill on the basis of a colored picture of a train. Results: The summed score exhibited good internal consistency (Cronbach’s α = .80), discriminative validity (p = .04), convergent validity (rs = .66 and .59 with age and visual–motor integration), and acceptable factorial validity (comparative fit index = .99, standardized root-mean-square residual = .04, and root-mean-square error of approximation = .13). Moreover, three coloring patterns (mature, transitional, and immature) were identified. Conclusions and Relevance: The new method provides objective, reliable, and valid scores representing coloring skills in typically developing children. In addition, the coloring patterns can be recognized. This method can be used to facilitate comparisons of children’s coloring skills with peers and provide valuable insight into children’s development. Plain-Language Summary: This study proposes a new method to objectively quantify children’s coloring skills with sound reliability and validity in typically developing children. The method can be used to evaluate children’s coloring skills and patterns to shed light on their developmental stages.

Introduction: Tuberculosis and diabetes mellitus both are the two most important public health problems in India. India is presently having the highest burden of tuberculosis and second highest burden of diabetes mellitus globally. Many studies have shown to have poorer treatment outcome of tuberculosis in diabetic patients. Aim: To evaluate the difference in treatment outcome antitubercular regimens in diabetic patients compared to non-diabetic patients. Materials and Methods: Active tuberculosis patients presenting to Department of Respiratory Medicine of IPGME&R, Kolkata were taken and divided into two groups- with and without diabetes mellitus (according to ADA criteria). Two groups were matched for age, sex, addiction habits, history of contact with tuberculosis and previous treatment for tuberculosis. Treatment for tuberculosis and diabetes mellitus have been given to both the groups according to standard protocol and they are followed up for glycemic control, treatment outcome for tuberculosis (according to standard outcome parameters and clinicoradiological outcome) including adverse drug reaction, need for hospitalization and mortality. Statistical analysis was also done to evaluate accuracy of HbA1c at the end of treatment to predict the clinicoradiological outcome. Results: In this outcome analysis, patients with tuberculosis and diabetes have poorer clinicoradiological outcome (36%) and unsuccessful treatment outcome (10%), higher rate of hospitalisation(OR=8.5) and mortality (4%). ROC curve analysis showed a cut-off HbA1c<7.4 to have a good clinicoradiological outcome at end of treatment. Conclusion: Diabetes has negative effect on outcome of anti-tubercular treatment as poor glycemic control during the course of treatment often lead to poor outcome of tuberculosis. So every tuberculosis patient should be screened for diabetes mellitus at the onset of treatment and proper anti-diabetic therapy is to be given along with standard anti-tubercular treatment for favourable outcome.
