The outbreaks of novel coronaviruses (COVID-19) have become increasingly severe worldwide. Meanwhile, the number of newly confirmed cases in China has dropped to double digits. On March 18, there were 34 newly confirmed cases in China, and all the cases were attributed to travellers returning from abroad. No newly confirmed cases in Wuhan, China, as of 19th March!

To this end, a team of geographers that include International Geographical Union (IGU) Vice-President Bojie Fu, former Secretary-General Mike Meadows, and Chair of the IGU Commission on Geography for Future Earth Wenwu Zhao, have published a systematic summary of China’s experience in combatting the epidemic. China’s approach integrates elements of coordination, classification, and collaboration. The co-authors call for full cooperation within and between all countries as joint actions are required to contain COVID-19 globally.
