This paper describes the conceptual framework of ISDSS (Intelligence Spatial Decision Support System) for the fishery industry logistic. The decision problem involved is complex due to the fish’s seasonal, perishable, size variability characteristics as raw material. The ISDSS will be supported by three main models, i.e. raw material origin selection, distribution route selection and product tracking and tracing. Multiple criteria decision models will be used for raw material selection. Multi-objective optimization will be used for optimum route selection, considering time, distance, fish quality, and spatial information. Internet of Things (IoT) model will be used for product tracking and tracing system. The geographical information system (GIS) integration with the DSS will also be supported by Artificial Intelligence Technique, i.e. data mining in classifying and clustering the raw material characteristic and origin data. The data collection will be supported by the Internet of Things (IoT). The best technique for each model will be investigated further based on the field experiment and simulation.
... The trust model is used to measure the trust level of the experts who make uncertainty decisions. In logistics, the decision-makers' trust plays an essential role [9]. Decision results will be a reference if the decision-maker can be trusted [10]. ...

In agri-food logistics, group decision-makers are faced with high risk and uncertainty involving many criteria. They must have a good level of trust with an amount of risk consistent with their level of risk acceptance. In this study, we propose a new model of trust uncertainty built from the trust component based on the principles of uncertainty theory. We developed a trust level scale by calculating each trust component to calculate the trust level. A new method was developed by advancing ME-MCDM by measuring the trust of experts as decision-makers to measure the reliability of group decision results. We adopt a non-numeric approach and propose four alternative logistics routes with five conflicting criteria, i.e., distance, utilization, logistic cost, transportation condition, and traffic. The results showed that this new method obtained the most optimal route with a high aggregation value. The trust uncertainty modeling proposed was successfully used to measure the trust level of group decision-makers with a trust value of 1.7, which indicates reliability. Finally, by comparing this new model with commonly used approaches, it is shown that this new model has advantages over AHP.KeywordsAgri-food logisticDecision makingTrust uncertainty modeling

The COVID-19 pandemic has raised a number of obstacles in mushroom cultivation, namely procurement of seeds and marketing. The contribution of this research was that we developed a Decision Support System (DSS), namely a smart green spatial database that can help members of farmer groups affected by Covid-19 to begin a new mushroom nursery with a valid database source. We compiled a technology product architecture with a spatial database approach. The distribution of mushroom cultivators, quality seed breeders, potential market segments and market reach is described in the Geographic Information System (GIS). We segregated with Geo Segregation Analyzer to get statistical information on spatial data. The results showed that there was an increase in new businesses to 17 group members, increased production capacity to 30 kg/day, and expanded marketing reach to 4 provinces in Indonesia.

Indonesia is the largest potato producer in Southeast Asia. Annual production averaged 1.09 million tons. However, productivity is still low, ranging from 16.4 - 18.22 tons/ha. The objective of this study was to propose a strategic planning of the Green Logistic Distribution Center (GLDC) in the potato agro-industry using Interpretative Structure Modeling (ISM). A contribution of this research was that we used ISM to analyze the sustainability policy of the green logistics program which includes social, economic, and environmental issues. The result showed that the objectives such as availability of raw materials (1), supplier of potato (3), market place (5), traffic transportation (7), economic factor (8), and environmental issue (9) include variable linkages from the system. Every action on these objectives will result in a successful GLDC program, while the lack of attention to these objectives will lead to program failure. In this case, the driver power is large but has little dependence on the program. While the other sub-elements of purpose are categorized as dependent, this is interpreted more as a result of other objective actions. With two forms of information, ISM and DP-D matrix diagrams, the deepening of the GLDC program is made possible to support strategic planning.

The complexity and uncertainty in decision making causes supply chains to be more adaptive. In its expansion, the supply chain not only discusses distance and time, but has considered the risks and spatial perspectives. Spatial problems are generally solved by Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Spatial Decision Support Systems (SDSS). Both systems provide various types of spatial analysis and visualization tools arranged in a problem-solving framework. The combination of GIS and Artificial Intelligent (AI) has greatly facilitated decision makers regarding data collection and spatial analysis, data manipulation and storage. The objective of this study was proposed to consider the Internet of Things (IoT) by including intelligent systems in existing sets of tools. The contribution of this study, we proposed intelligent system collaboration in SDSS to overcome the limitations of GIS in providing a knowledge base. We recommend that IoT devices namely remote sensing, RFID, and QR code be added to the SDSS to facilitate spatial data mining interpretation and be able to provide more knowledge base support. We offer the concept of Intelligent Spatial Decision Support Systems (ISDSS) in the agro-industry supply chain. We recommend various troubleshooting features that are not available in standard statistical methods, including using the Multi Objectives Genetic Algorithm (MOGA). For further research, we suggest this concept can be implemented in agro-industrial logistics.

This dissertation examined employees’ psychological experiences during organizational changes. While change frequently occurs in today’s workplace, organizational changes bear a risk of adverse effects on employees’ well-being and motivation. To improve employees’ well-being, and thus also the success of change endeavors, it is essential to understand how different types of employees’ experiences evolve by influencing each other during change events. The first substudy of the dissertation presented a theoretical model. This model postulated key psychological processes that influence employees’ work engagement during organizational changes, and their dynamic relationships. The other two substudies provided a partial test of the model by utilizing a three-wave longitudinal survey data (N = 623) collected during the merger of City of Helsinki’s departments of Social and Health Care Services. This data captured employees’ experiences during 2012–2014 with one-year intervals; once before the merger and twice after the merger. The empirical substudies utilized longitudinal structural equation modeling as an analytical framework. The results of the second substudy showed that employees’ cognitive trust towards top management and favorable perceptions of merger process fairness were mainly reciprocally and positively related. While trust was associated with subsequent fairness perceptions throughout the merger, fairness was related to subsequent trust only during the first merger year. The findings suggest that subordinates trust towards leaders may not only be a product of favorable treatment as trust may also color fairness perceptions. The third substudy demonstrated reciprocal relationships between employees’ work engagement and cognitive appraisals of change. Employees’ negative appraisals regarding the personal impact of the change, and increases in such appraisals, were related to decreases in engagement throughout the organizational merger process. Positive change appraisals, and increases in these appraisals, were associated with increases in work engagement only during the first year of the merger. For the opposite direction, high work engagement, and increases in engagement, were related to decreases in negative appraisals, and increases in positive appraisals throughout the merger. These results showed how work engagement accumulates over time especially by mitigating employees’ negative change appraisals. Taken together, this study revealed how employees’ experiences, specifically trust and fairness, and work engagement and change appraisals, evolve via reinforcing reciprocal relationships throughout distinct phases of change events. These processes can result either in upward spirals that foster employees’ well-being and adaptation or to loss spirals with the opposite effect. Organizational change scholars and practitioners would therefore benefit from attending to more dynamic and bi-directional processes in employee change experience.

The demand for alternative sources of fossil fuel energy in Indonesia is increasing. One alternative to fossil fuels is bioethanol. Potato skin starch can be a raw material for making bioethanol. Potato skin contains starch, cellulose, hemicellulose, lignin and sugar. Bioethanol can be used must go through several stages, including the logistics system. Logistics activities require transportation, material handling equipment, and warehouses. In Indonesia, transportation sector which is the biggest user of fuel actually receives fuel subsidies. Bioethanol is the most appropriate alternative solution to replace gasoline. In processing, bioethanol through five stages, namely, potato skin starch, raw material logistics, processing bioethanol, delivery process and customer. This study presents green logistics model of potato transportation with a cost model and GWP. The results of the study show that the green logistics model by looking at the total costs and environmental impacts can be used as a reference in developing environmentally friendly bioethanol production in the future.

Seaweed had proven to become a fisheries commodity to provide a significant multiplier economic effect for coastal community in Southeast Maluku District during 2005-2013. However, the declining on the productivity of seaweed has given a direct impact on welfare of farmers and coastal communities in this region during the recent years, due to asymmetric information on seaweed farming associated with prices, latest technology and all pre and post production activities. Thus, forming a dedicated information centre for seaweed farming in the region has become a necessity. As small island regions, in Southeast Maluku district, farmers and all stakeholder have to deal with cliché problems such as insufficient infrastructure, lack of transportation, farmers locations that spread across the islands. This paper focused on the selection of suitable location for the information centre for seaweed farming in Southeast Maluku district, Indonesia. Analytical hierarchy process (AHP), in classical and fuzzy forms, was an approach used on this study for suitability analysis. Moreover, GIS for spatial analysis in addition to AHP was used to compare the best results for the location of information centre for seaweed farmers. The results show that fuzzy AHP could provid more suitability location compared with conventional AHP. Most of suitability locations were located in three sub-districts regions and also most of them were located in Kei Kecil Island and Kei Besar Islands due to the geographical characteristics of the region. The sensitivity analysis was conducted to measure the sensitivity of the results when the weight of each criterion was changed. The outcome of this study was to serve its purpose as an input and comparison study for a recent local government of Southeast Maluku' policy on developing seaweed farming in this region.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to emphasise the importance of high levels of trust and collaboration for increasing the likelihood of project management (PM) success. However, the link between these three constructs remains unclear. Design/methodology/approach In this study, the authors use structural equation modelling (SEM) based on the findings from an international survey of 151 project practitioners to demonstrate the significance of project team trust and collaboration for increasing the likelihood of PM success. Findings The results indicate that PM success becomes more likely as the degree of collaboration improves which, in turn, is influenced by an increase in the level of trust between team members. The two factors of PM success are project performance and knowledge integration and innovation. The six factors of the degree of collaboration that were studied are physical proximity, commitment, conflict, coordination, relationships and incentives. The three factors of the level of trust investigated are expectations, knowledge exchange and imported trust. Practical implications The results of the study are expected to provide insight for project practitioners to increase the likelihood of PM success by taking cognisance of the factors that influence collaboration and trust. The results of the study may also provide insight into teaching and learning in tertiary education, in terms of professionalism and integrity issues. Originality/value This paper presents a new perspective for investigating PM success. SEM techniques are used to determine the likelihood of PM success by promoting trust and collaboration in the project team. This unique approach highlights the “human factors” that influence perceived PM success which should benefit both researchers and practitioners.

Purpose This paper aims to study the antecedents of Internet of Things (IoT) adoption among farmers and determine how trust in the technology influences its adoption when mediated by perceived value and risk. Through the conceptualization of trust and perceived risk, the authors factor in farmers’ perceptions of agricultural technology providers and discuss different forms of perceived value, spanning economic, green and epistemic value. Design/methodology/approach This paper develops a distinctive research design, drawing on elements of the value-based adoption and technology acceptance models. By linking different elements of perceived value with IoT technology, the authors also apply the service-dominant logic to this study. They study how trust affects perceived value and risk and then determine how perceived value and risk, in turn, affect IoT adoption. The authors test the hypotheses by developing a structural equation model to analyze the results of a survey, wherein 492 farmers from Iowa, the USA, participated. Findings The results show a positive relationship between trust and perceived value and a negative relationship between trust and perceived risk. Perceived value had a positive impact on IoT adoption, whereas perceived risk had a negative impact on IoT adoption. Practical implications The research findings on trust and perceived value and risk are timely and relevant for business-to-business (B2B) marketing practitioners and agricultural stakeholders, especially in an era where farmers are expressing growing concerns about data handling risk posed by IoT technology adoption. Originality/value The research findings signal a transition in focus from the goods-dominant logic to the service-dominant logic in agriculture, whereby farmers are drawn to IoT technology because of perceived economic, green and epistemic value and as a result, can differentiate themselves on how well they deploy operant resources. This paper not only provides a unique conceptualization of perceived value but also pave the way for a richer conceptualization of IoT core functions that enable farmers to fulfill green and epistemic goals. This is the first B2B marketing paper discussing the antecedents of IoT adoption in agriculture, such as farmers’ perceptions of both monetary and non-monetary forms of value and perceived data handling risk.

It is difficult to know whether different dimensions of trust have different effects on local residents’ acceptance of nuclear power plants (NPPs). In previous research such trust has been considered as a single dimensional concept. This paper divides trust into goodwill trust and competence trust, and we explore the ways in which trust affects acceptance of NPPs through structural equation modeling. A survey of 491 people was conducted in Haiyan County, China, where the Qinshan nuclear power plant is located. We find that goodwill trust is significantly correlated with competence trust, and each can indirectly promote residents’ acceptance of NPPs but by different paths. Goodwill trust improves acceptance of NPPs by decreasing risk perception, while competence trust improves acceptance of NPPs by increasing benefit perception. However, the associations between goodwill trust and benefit perception, competence trust and risk perception, are not significant.

Trust in the supply chain leads to an increase in supply chain collaboration (SCC) and subsequently in collaborative advantage (CA) and consequently affects firm performance positively. Supply chain collaboration is an effective collaboration of supply chain partners to succeed in a common goal. Concisely, the collaborative advantage is the relative competitive advantage among companies. It refers to the gathering, exchanging and improving the resources among the collaborating partners. This research aims to clarify the relationship between trust in the supply chain and firm performance through supply chain collaboration and collaborative advantage. Analysis results show that trust in the supply chain positively affects supply chain collaboration. Although the proposed model suggested a positive relationship between trust in the supply chain and collaborative advantage, according to the hypotheses test results, this relation is not statistically significant. This means that trust in the supply chain has no direct effect on the collaborative advantage, but has an indirect effect through supply chain collaboration on the col-laborative advantage. Finally, the positive effect of collaborative advantage on firm performance has been found to be statistically significant.

Trust and faith have been described as similar constructs, although trust is secular and faith is religious in its basic nature. This paper compares secular trust and religious faith in context with cognitive beliefs, affective feelings, conative intentions, and actual behaviors – consistent with the theoretical framework provided by the Theory of Reasoned Action. It also identifies ten similarities between trust and faith in context with the committed actions and behaviors of the individuals who exercise that trust or faith. Finally, the paper suggests that understanding the nature of either trust or faith increases one’s understanding of the other construct as well.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to explore how Chinese and Finnish managers in cross-cultural supply-chain relationships evaluate their business partners’ trustworthiness and distrustworthiness. Design/methodology/approach Representatives of two Finnish companies and their Chinese and Finnish suppliers were interviewed to collect qualitative data from 23 managers. Findings The Chinese managers emphasized relationship-specific, personalized trustworthiness. They highlighted personalized communication and benevolence, which manifested in respect and reciprocity, rooted in the Chinese notion of “guanxi” as personal ties. In contrast, the Finnish managers’ view of trustworthiness was more associated with depersonalized organizational attributes. They emphasized the dimension of integrity, especially promise-keeping. In addition, tentative signs of trust ambivalence, as a balance between trust- and distrust-related factors, were identified for both the Chinese and the Finns. Research limitations/implications Due to the exploratory nature of this study the validity of the findings is limited to these data and context. Future studies could explore other national contexts as well as the effects of industry, market position, and position in the supply chain. Practical implications The findings of this study bring a valuable understanding of the potential pitfalls and unique challenges in cross-border inter-firm transactions. These can enhance inter-firm trust building in a cross-cultural context. Originality/value This study enriches the view of trust as a holistic process of simultaneous evaluation of both trustworthiness and distrustworthiness. In this process, trust ambivalence could serve as the intermediate construct between trust and distrust. These two contrary yet complementary opposites constitute a duality to be managed from the perspective of yin-yang balancing.

An emergent use of the blockchain technology is to enable the transfer of digital assets between two parties. An extension to this is the Smart Property in which physical assets could be transferred too. Another extension is the exchange of services of all kinds in form of digitally executed contracts. In this paper, the problems with existing attempts to implement an all-inclusive smart contract platform were identified and a new framework proposed. In this framework, the technical and legal terms of any contract could be executed digitally if prepared with appropriate legal prose and required parameters for each of the terms of the contract. The cores of the framework are the technical, business and legal models, which are connected to each other. The technical model adapts block chain technology while ensuring granularity in implementing the terms of the contract as presented by the legal model using legal prose and necessary parameters. Using the proposed framework, some questions that have persisted with current implementation of Smart contracts that involves the blockchain were answered. The framework improves the efficiency and practicability of using smart contract for physical assets and non-financial services with emphasis. The contribution is mainly on ensuring an adoptable and practicable smart contract platform.

The effective Supply chain management (SCM) has increasingly become an important way to enhance competitive strength as well as business performance. Trust, commitment, and well-integrated supply chain by Information Technology (IT) support are important elements to improve supply chain performance. The objectives of this study are to examine and analyze the effects of trust variables on supply chain performance, trust on commitment, commitment on supply chain performance, information technology on supply chain performance, and effects of trust variable on supply chain performance through commitment variable to Small and Medium Industries (SMIs) of passion fruit processing in Makassar. This study used a quantitative approach, where the questionnaire as main tools for data collection. Data were analyzed by descriptive analysis and partial least square-path modeling (PLS-PM). Data computation used SmartPLS 2.0 Software. The results show that trust has a significant effect on supply chain performance, and it also has a significant effect on commitment. Furthermore, commitment has a significant effect on supply chain performance, and information technology has a significant effect on supply chain performance. Trust can improve the supply chain performance by commitment indirectly, and it gives smaller effect on supply chain performance directly than indirectly mediated by commitment. Then, supply chain performance is more influenced by information technology rather than trust and commitment. Whether and how trust and trustworthiness differ between a collectivist society, e.g., China, and an individualistic one, e.g., the United States, generates much ongoing scientific debate and bears significant practical values for managing cross-country transactions. We experimentally investigate how supply chain members' countries of origin—China versus the United States—affect trust, trustworthiness, and strategic information sharing behavior in a cross-country supply chain. We consider a two-tier supply chain in which the upstream supplier solicits demand forecast information from the retailer to plan production; but the retailer has an incentive to manipulate her forecast to ensure abundant supply. The levels of trust and trustworthiness in the supply chain and supplier's capability to determine the optimal production quantity affect the efficacy of forecast sharing and the resulting profits. We develop an experimental design to disentangle these three aspects and to allow for real-time interactions between geographically distant and culturally heterogeneous participants. We observe that, when there is no prospect for long-term interactions, our Chinese participants consistently exhibit lower spontaneous trust and trustworthiness than their U.S. counterparts do. We quantify the differences in trust and trustworthiness between the two countries, and the resulting impact on supply chain efficiency. We also show that Chinese individuals exhibit higher spontaneous trust toward U.S. partners than Chinese ones, primarily because they perceive that individuals from the United States are more trusting and trustworthy in general. This positive perception toward U.S. people is indeed consistent with the U.S. participants' behavior in forecast sharing. In addition, we quantify that a Chinese supply chain enjoys a larger efficiency gain from repeated interactions than a U.S. one does, as the prospect of building a long-term relationship successfully sustains trust and trustworthiness by Chinese partners. We advocate that companies can reinforce the positive perception of westerners held by the Chinese population and commit to long-term relationships to encourage trust by Chinese partners. Finally, we also observe that both populations exhibit similar pull-to-center bias when solving a decision problem under uncertainty (i.e., the newsvendor problem).

Based on a literature review, we develop a research profile that illustrates that survey-based, trustrelated empirical research has severe limitations. It usually carries out general relationship analysis using single end or quasi two-sided sampling and classic statistical constructs. We designed and carried out an empirical research that was highly situational, applied dyadic operationalisation, pairwise sampling, and dyadic data analysis - a special statistical approach and toolset developed by psychologists and used to analyse interdependencies in relationships. Our main contribution is methodological and theoretical since the paper gives a structured overview on the methodological challenges in analysing mutuality in trust, but also in other relational attributes. The paper not only makes these methodological problems explicit, but also offers a potential solution to overcome some of their limitations.

Logistics collaboration has emerged a prevalent strategy to mitigate challenge individuals and organizations encounter. A successful collaboration, however, depends on certain trustworthy behaviors partner exhibit. To that end, understanding aspects constituting behavioral uncertainty and mechanisms by which such aspects affect partner trust is a necessary. This necessity counts on emergent behavioral trust uncertainties, constituted by partner’s actions and interactions occurring during collaboration. While this is a necessary requirement, most of the studies in the literature lack to take into account the influence of behavioral uncertainty on collaboration and partner trust. To that effect, this paper uncovers outlined limitation by establishing behavioral factors influencing partner trust in operational stage of logistics collaboration. To accomplish this objective, a systematic literature review (SLR) is deployed to consolidate research domains of logistics, supply chain, collaboration, and trust. SLR proceeds by defining a review protocol, followed by a search process conducted in 5 databases using 20 search terms on articles published between 2001 and 2015 inclusively. Among findings this SLR has revealed are four behavioral factors and thirteen criteria proposed to affect partner trust. Additionally, these factors constitute success and measurable criteria needed for empirical investigation which may employ experimental and/or case-study methods. Moreover, synthesized factors extend further an understanding of behavioral trust in ad hoc collaborative networks, a large part of which being supported by networks of humans and computers.

Multi-objective optimization is an optimization problem with some conflicting objectives to be attained, simultanously. This paper reviewed literature about multi-objective optimization problems for supply chain management. The review aimed to provide the lastest research views and recomendations for further studies. We discussed the lastest ten years publications about multi-objective optimization for supply chain management. The scope of this review was classified into five categories i.e. problem statements, multi-objective frameworks, mathematical formulation modeling, optimization techniques, and representation of supply chain. Multi-objective optimization approaches, both classical and metaheuristic approaches, were discussed, accordingly. In this review, we conducted conclusion and recomendations about likelihood research directions in future.

In recent years, nonprofit scholars have increasingly studied the phenomenon of social enterprises which has become a generic term describing a wider reorientation among third sector organizations. The emergence of social enterprises has also led to a dynamic of hybridization and broadening in the cooperative sector, similar to an earlier dynamic of “economization”, but this time on the other end of the organizational spectrum. This paper aims at developing a fine-grained conceptual understanding of how this organizational dynamic is shaped in terms of member coordination, thus contributing to a more comprehensive theoretical understanding of different organizational forms of cooperatives. Specifically, to highlight the difference to traditional member-focused cooperatives, the paper introduces the term third-party-focused cooperatives for those social enterprises which emphasize economic goals as well as control and ownership by a particular community (typically place-based). The key result of the paper is that with the shift from member- to community-focus in cooperatives, the main coordination mechanism becomes one of norm-based trust on the basis of generalized reciprocity. In contrast to traditional maxim-based trust member coordination on the basis of relation-specific reciprocity, this enables third-party-focused cooperatives to mobilize bridging and linking social capital, facilitating collective action aimed towards the community interest. The findings suggest that this identity shift requires a mutual re-positioning between the cooperative and the nonprofit sector, in terms of umbrellas as well as regulatory and legislative bodies.

Building perfect university is certainly a difficult and lengthy process which must participate jointly and responsibly all members of the university on: university's executive, teachers, research, administrative and support staff, as well as students. Perfect university is characterized by many attributes, both quantitative and qualitative. The purpose of paper is focus attention on trust and reliability that can be assigned to qualitative attributes. The methodological part contains the results of a questionnaire survey conducted on a sample of 150 students of University of Zilina. The students were asked to identify the importance of certain attributes of the perfect university. From the viewpoint of attribute the trust, we investigated the importance that students assigned to the following two characteristics: 1) early implementation of the promises made by the university; 2. behavior of teachers and staff that inspires trust of the students. In the light of attribute the reliability, we examined the importance of these two characteristics: 1) having the well-educated teachers, capable of answering to the students’ questions; 2) interest and support of teachers and staff in solving students’ problems. On the basis of statistical processing of the results and other methods (analysis, synthesis, induction, deduction, generalization, comparison, etc.), the creative part of the paper contains some recommendations that could executives of universities use in their quest to become the perfect university.

The present study examined the effects of reduced system reliability on operator performance and automation management in an adaptable automation environment. 39 operators were randomly assigned to one of three experimental groups: low (60%), medium (80%), and high (100%) reliability of automation support. The support system provided five incremental levels of automation which operators could freely select according to their needs. After 3 h of training on a simulated process control task (AutoCAMS) in which the automation worked infallibly, operator performance and automation management were measured during a 2.5-h testing session. Trust and workload were also assessed through questionnaires. Results showed that although reduced system reliability resulted in lower levels of trust towards automation, there were no corresponding differences in the operators' reliance on automation. While operators showed overall a noteworthy ability to cope with automation failure, there were, however, decrements in diagnostic speed and prospective memory with lower reliability.

This paper is aimed at both researchers and academics in the areas of Management and Communication. Researching employees' perceptions of trust, fairness, and the management of change using an organizational justice framework can have significant implications for human resources management during a time of strategic change. The current work aims to give a better understanding of how an organizational justice framework can be used to explore employees' perceptions of trust, fairness, and the management of change during a period of strategic change in three private Universities in Cyprus. However, Cyprus lacks empirical research on organizations' use of organizational justice, trust, fairness, and the management of change. This paper opens the way to building a body of literature and empirical research for in this field in Cyprus, and will contribute to an enriched understanding of employees' perceptions of trust, fairness, and the management of change using an organizational justice framework within three private Universities in Cyprus. This research employs a multiple-case study research design to satisfy the goal of this exploratory research and data was collected through multiple sources, including in-depth individual interviews, and subject matter expert (SME) review and reflection of the data collected.

Governments and organizations around the world are increasingly turning to knowledge and information sharing as a lead strategy for developing response capacity to address issues in a wide range of programs and policy areas. The sharing of information and knowledge within organizations may be influenced by a range of factors, one being trust. This paper seeks, firstly, to identify and explore some key theoretic approaches to trust applied in the broader social sciences literature, including trust as a “leap of faith” or willingness to vulnerability; trust as a key component of social capital; and trust as a component of the concept of power-knowledge and truth- telling as found in the work of Michel Foucault. Second, the paper presents the findings of a meta-analysis conducted of recent library and information science (LIS) literature in order to analyze how these three theoretical approaches are represented. Findings of the meta-analysis indicate that the trust definitions offered by two of the three theoretical perspectives investigated are well represented in recent LIS research; that other simpler definitions of trust are also represented; and that over one quarter of the sample were found to offer no explicit definition of trust. Analysis of these latter studies suggest that trust is represented by the implicit views and assumptions of researchers and the focus is more on the embedded authority of the information or abstract system rather than on the trustor as an essential component of the trust dynamic. In recent years supply chain integration (SCI) has received increasing attention from scholars and practitioners. However, our knowledge of what influences the supply chain integration practice of relationship commitment is still very limited. The objective of this study is to investigate the relationship among supply chain justices (procedural, distributive and interactional), trust and inter-firms relationship commitment in mainland Pakistan. The research variables have considerable importance in the literature of supply chain management (SCM). The conceptual model comprises five hypotheses. Then hypotheses are tested via an empirical study in which data are collected from 170 manufacturers, distributors, suppliers and retailers of main stream spectrum industries in Pakistan. We used exploratory factor analysis (EFA), confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) to examine the validity and reliability of the measurement model, and structural equation modeling (SEM) to test the hypotheses. The findings delineate that supply chain justices can develop relationship commitment (affective and continuance) via establishing trust among supply chain partners. Moreover, this study reveals interesting and useful implications of supply chain justices, trust and relationship commitment for practitioners.

In recent years, the aspect of trust in the context of inter-organizational relationship has deserved an increased attention from foreign scientists. The importance of investigation has been shown by a growing number of publications on the role of trust in international relations. The interest in this field of study, on the one hand, was determined by the changes in the business environment. The abundance of information, the appearance of network organizations, dynamics of environment conditions and the need for innovations lead the companies to a greater or smaller trust in business partners. Another reason lies in the positive effect of trust for successful interorganizational relationship. The trust in an organization also means trust in its people working in this organization. It affects the fact that the assesment of trust in business partners can be related to the highlighting of the aspects of psychology as well as behavior of the individuals. On the other hand, this evaluation may be related to the identification of the trust evaluation criteria (both in the level of individuals and organizations) and determination of the reasons of trust formation.

Supply Chain Collaboration plays a significant role to the effectiveness of organizations. This preliminary study aims to identify social psychology factors that might influence collaborative relationship within a supply chain network, in the context of medium-sized food manufacturing enterprise. The supply chain collaboration practice and its impact of implementation on firm's performance, both operational and financial, were investigated. Based on this purposes, a survey within a case study approach was conducted. The data were collected from one medium scale food manufacturing enterprise. A partial least squares-path modeling (PLS-PM) was proposed for conceptualizing and measuring the effects of dependence, commitment, trust, and communication on supply chain collaboration. The effect of supply chain collaboration on firm's performance was also measured and quantified. From buyer's perspective, the study reveals that commitment and trust positively affect supply chain collaboration and that supply chain collaboration has a considerable effect on firm's performance. Meanwhile, dependence influences the collaboration indirectly through commitment, while communication influences the collaboration indirectly through trust.

Orientation: Managers within organisations should be more attentive regarding their managerial practices, the quality of work life (QWL) and trust relationships, as experienced by employees. Research purpose: The aim of the study was to determine the relationship between organisational trust and QWL. Motivation for the study: Recent organisational changes have refocused attention on the productivity and performance of sales representatives. These changes have brought about a re-evaluation of their QWL and the organisational trust they experience. Research design, approach and method: An Internet-based survey methodology was used to collect primary data from a probability sample of 282 sales representatives; a 72% response rate was obtained. Responses were analysed using quantitative techniques and structural equation modelling. Main findings: Results confirmed a positive relationship between managerial practices with organisational trust and QWL and a lower relationship between the personality dimensions, organisational trust and the QWL. Practical/managerial implications: The study accentuated how important it is for management to be constantly aware of employees’ trust and their experience of a QWL, as these factors can lead to severe consequences if not properly managed. Contribution/value add: The study focused attention on the importance of building good trust relationships within an organisation, as it seems as though the personality traits and managerial practices of managers influence not only the trust relationship experienced by employees, but also their experience of a QWL.

The aim of this study was to examine the relationships among trust, predictability, self-disclosure, and social attraction in two types of relationships: exclusive Facebook friendships and exclusive face-to-face friendships. The term exclusive was described as being a very close relationship conducted primarily through one medium of interaction. Three hundred seventeen college students completed a survey reporting their levels of social attraction, self-disclosure, predictability, and trust with an exclusive Facebook friend and an exclusive face-to-face friend. Results show that trust and predictability have the most influence on how much participants disclose both on Facebook and face-to-face. In addition, they are more socially attracted to those friends to whom they self-disclose more. However, individuals disclose more to, and have more trust in, their face-to-face friends.

Purpose – The purpose of this article is to provide academicians and practitioners alike with a theory-based framework regarding horizontal collaboration in logistics. The proposed tool is based on an incremental perspective, according to two main dimensions: mutual trust among partners and the extent of the cooperation. Design/methodology/approach – This study used a “synthesising” approach to gauge potential contributions previously spread across different streams of research and disciplines that are now integrated into the framework. We conduct a deep literature review to characterise the horizontal collaboration phenomenon along two levels of analysis. In doing so, we examined relevant literature in the field of horizontal cooperation in logistics to critically appraise aims of, impediments to and existing models for horizontal collaboration. Additionally, we reviewed seminal literature of four organisational theories to assess their potential to contribute to the theoretical foundations of the growing topic of horizontal collaboration. Transaction Cost Economics, Social Exchange, Resource Dependence and Social Dilemma represent the theoretical foundations to cast light to how to design and implement inter-organisational horizontal initiatives. Findings – The proposed tool organises horizontal collaborations within three steps for each of the two levels of classification: trust and extent of the cooperation. The organisational theories reviewed play different roles to help in different stages of the horizontal collaboration. Additionally, for each combination of trust/extent of the cooperation coherent pairs of aims of the collaboration and assets that are to be shared are defined. Research limitations/implications – The article represents the first attempt to analyse horizontal collaboration from within the discipline itself and from the wider field of SCM through other well-established theoretical lenses. The proposed tool has shed some light into the black box of (un)successful horizontal collaboration, but it is theory based – which represents its main limitations – thus, requiring further testing of the research streams suggested in the paper. Practical implications – The article not only gives insights into theoretical challenges of horizontal collaborations that needs further investigation but is also useful to companies involved in horizontal collaborations by helping define coherent assets that are to be shared to achieve specific goals. In its more theoretical underpinning, the framework can also inspire the partnership philosophy and help sketch a collaborative evolutionary path. Originality/value – The lack of a theoretically robust landmark that could help understand, design and implement horizontal collaborations has been defined as a major theoretical and practical shortcoming. The article represents the first contribution aimed at filling that gap.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to investigate the role of retailer trustworthiness in driving customer trust and the subsequent impact on loyalty. The authors position trustworthiness as a mediator in the link between retail strategies and the development of trust. They model customer loyalty to the service retailer as a function of the trust created through trustworthy perceptions. Design/methodology/approach – The authors validate their model using 420 survey responses from customers in a service retail setting. Nine research hypotheses were tested using structural equation modeling. Alternate models are estimated, and the results provide support for the theory-based trustworthiness mediation model. Findings – Trustworthy behaviors first build trustworthiness, which then translates into customer trust and ultimately has a positive impact on both behavioral and attitudinal loyalty. Research limitations/implications – The research highlights the importance for retailers to signal their trustworthiness to build customer trust and loyalty. Researchers should measure trustworthiness perceptions when examining customer relationships and managers should plan strategically to develop both trust and trustworthiness with their customers. Originality/value – This study is one of the first to investigate the mediating effect of trustworthiness on customer loyalty in service settings. While past research has investigated dimensions of trustworthy behaviors, none has included a measure of trustworthiness perceptions and consumer trust in the same theoretical model. The results of the research provide important insights for both researchers and managers.

The focus of the current study is non-formal education and supply chain companies in Indonesia. The ultimate objective is to investigate that how non-formal education contribute towards supply chain management performance. Two major elements of non-formal education, namely; non-formal learning and non-formal training was considered. Additionally, supply chain company's recruitment from non-formal educational sector was also considered. Four hypotheses were proposed concerning the relationship between learning, training, supply chain company's recruitment, supply chain operations and supply chain management performance to approach the ultimate objective of the study. The cross-sectional research design was selected, and data were collected from the human resources (HR) employees of the supply chain companies in Indonesia. Three hundred (300) questionnaires were distributed through random sampling technique. After data collection, PLS (SEM) was used to test the hypothesis. It was found that, learning and training has significant positive relationship with supply chain company's recruitment which has positive effect on supply chain operations. Finally, the better supply chain operations have positive contribution to enhance the supply chain management performance. This study has major contribution in the body of literature, as this is the first study which examined the relationship of non-formal education and supply chain management performance. This study will provide better grounds for supply chain companies to recruit their required stafffrom non-formal educational sectors.

This paper proposes a fair and balanced risk and value-added distribution as a novel approach for collaborative supply chain. The objective of this article is to analyze the existing methods and approaches for risk management, value-adding, risk and revenue sharing to develop a new framework for balancing risk and value-adding in collaborative supply chains. The authors reviewed and synthesized 165 scientific articles which were published between 2001 and 2017. The reviewed articles were categorized into supply chain management and performance, risk management, value-added, fair risk and value-added distribution and supply chain negotiation. The potentials identified for future research were the importance of decision-making and sustainability for effectiveness of supply chain risk management. Most previous authors have applied an approach of revenue and risk sharing with both decentralized and centralized supply chains to achieve the fair risk and value-added distribution. The dominant methods we found in literature were game theory and complex mathematical formulation. Most literature focused on operation research techniques and there was a lack of discussion of the intelligent system approach. The contribution of this paper was mapping the method and approach in risk management, value added analysis and develop new framework. This paper developed and suggested a new framework for a fair and balanced risk and value-added distribution model. For a future agenda, we point towards the development of a systematic intelligent system applying soft-computing techniques and knowledge transfer for maintaining sustainable supply chains.

Purpose This research aims to better understand customer experience, as it relates to customer commitment and provides a framework for future research into the intersection of these emerging streams of research. Design/methodology/approach This research contributes to theoretical and practical perspectives on customer experience and its measurement by integrating extant literature with customer commitment and customer satisfaction literature. Findings The breadth of the domains that encompass customer experience – cognitive, emotional, physical, sensorial and social – makes simplistic metrics impossible for gauging the entirety of customers’ experiences. These findings provide strong support of the need for new research into customer experience and customer commitment. Practical implications Given the complexity of customer experience, managers are unlikely to track and manage all relevant elements of the concept. This research provides a framework identifying empirically the most salient attributes of customer experience with particular emphasis on those elements that enhance commitment. This offers insight into service design to correspond with specific commitment and experience dimensions. Originality/value This research is the first to examine the customer experience as it relates to customer commitment – a key factor in customer loyalty, positive word of mouth and other desired outcomes for managers and marketers. This paper provides a framework for future research into these emerging topics.
Chapter
The objective of this chapter has been to review the relevant psychological and sociological literature on trust and credibility in communication and to apply the findings of our search to the new area of risk communication. What are the major insights gained from our review and how may they be practically applied to risk communication programs? By carefully framing the information, by tailoring the content to the needs of the final receivers, and by conveying a clear, honest, and appealing message, risk communication can convey a basic understanding for the choices and constraints of risk management. It can thus create the foundations for gaining trust and credibility. Although many receivers of risk information may not agree with the actual decisions institutions have made in setting priorities or selecting management options, they may realize that these decisions are results of open discussions and painful trade-offs.

One of the agri-food characteristics is perishable product which made it has a higher chance damage risk from the farmer to the consumer. Therefore issues around food security and associated risks are extremely important. Identification of some methods or approaches in risk management are needed to help the process of decision making for handling supply chain risk in agri-food. The purpose of this research was to identify the development of methods or approaches used to identify and assess the risks that occurred in the agri-food supply chain. The articles search was undertaken through articles search on selected relevant journals of supply chain risk management for agri-food published from 2004 until 2015. A total of 79 randomly selected journal articles had been analyzed. These mapping were arranged in systematic stages, started from searches related supply chain risk management for agri-food. Furthermore, the articles identified and classified the methods or approaches for each stage of supply chain risk management, and were divided into three main stages: risk identification, risk assessment and risk mitigation. The last, the articles of risk identification were categorized into three groups: qualitative, semi-quantitative and qualytatively. The mapping results showed that risk assessment supply chain for agri-food was much related to microbiology risk assessment. It related to the characteristics of agri-food products. Standard models used for risk assessment in supply chain for agri-food were based on integration of statistical analysis and simulation. The other techniques used included intelligent technique, optimization models and multi-criteria decision analysis. The literature on supply chain risk management for agri-food is so vast, complex and difficult to understand, therefore this mapping of method and approach usefull for fastering and better understanding of the subject discussed to the research community.

This paper experimentally isolates the impact of various combinations of the following motives on trustworthiness: (i) unconditional other-regarding preferences; (ii) vulnerability-responsiveness; (iii) deal-responsiveness; and (iv) gift-responsiveness. Our results indicate that – besides unconditional other-regarding preferences like altruism and inequality aversion – vulnerability-responsiveness is the most important driver for trustworthiness. Prompted by our experimental findings we provide behavioral definitions of trust, trustworthiness, and trust-responsiveness based on revealed willingness to accept vulnerability and the response to it. An important difference from existing definitions is that ours allow trust to be present without generosity.

Trust is crucial for achieving optimum benefits from supply chain integration and collaboration in the construction sector. Yet relationships between main contractors and subcontractors continue to be influenced by issues that promote vicious circles of distrust. This research investigates the trust influencing factors in main contractor–subcontractor relationships on projects. Empirical data was gathered from across four case studies through semi-structured interviews, non-participant observations and document reviews, and analysed using thematic analysis. Findings revealed that the change management process, economic climate, payment practices, perceptions of future work opportunities, job performance and the project-specific context influence trustfulness and trustworthiness of the different parties. The findings also imply that stronger trust in the main contractor's supply chain can only be realised and sustained through promotion of trustworthiness-induced rather than benefit-induced trustfulness.

Trust is an important factor for managing transaction costs within inter-organizational relationships (IORs). Research on trust indicates that separate dimensions of trust arise from a partner’s competence (i.e., technical skills, experience, and reliability) and integrity (i.e., motives, honesty, and character), and these dimensions have potentially unique effects. Because scholars rarely apply this distinction within IOR research, their studies may have masked important relationships involving competence- and integrity-based trust. In response, we build and test theory that explains how competence- and integrity-based trust have asymmetric effects on different kinds of transaction costs. In particular, we build on theory that describes how parties process positive and negative information about others’ behavior to predict that integrity-based trust in IORs is more potent for reducing transaction costs than competence-based trust. We also theorize that building strong IORs requires more up-front investment with competence- but not integrity-based trust. By applying meta-analytic structural equation modeling to data on 37,366 IORs drawn from 150 samples, we find that integrity-based trust is about ten times more effective at reducing these costs. A key implication is that managers seeking to improve the efficiency of their IORs may do well by performing competently, but they can do even better by building perceptions of integrity.

A large number of researchers have accredited the importance of Customer Trust, Customer Loyalty, Customer Retention and Cause Related Marketing, however they generally discus about their segregate effect on other variables in developed countries. Slight evidence is obtainable on Customer Trust, Customer Loyalty, Customer Retention and Cause Related Marketing from under developed countries like Pakistan. This study analyzes the Effect of Customer Trust on Customer Loyalty and Customer Retention and the Moderating Role of Cause Related Marketing in Cellular Service Operators like Mobilink, Telenor, Warid, Ufone and Zong. The outcome of the study refer that the Customer Trust, Customer Loyalty and Cause Related Marketing have a positive association but surprisingly the Customer Trust and Customer Retention have negative association in Pakistani context. Pakistani Cellular Service Operators have need to clearly define and reframe their policies regarding religious aspect, creating more ease to understand complex price structure and thoroughly understanding buying patterns of customers to retain them for a long life.

his paper explores the relationship between customer loyalty and its seldom researched antecedents: relationship commitment, relational equity and company image. The proposed conceptual model is tested with data gained from customers of mobile telephone operators. The results show that relationship commitment and relational equity have a statistically significant positive influence on customer loyalty. In addition, the results of hierarchical multiple regression analysis reveal that the number of different mobile operators a person uses is not related to customer loyalty when relationship commitment, relational equity and company image are included in the model. Drawing on the results, the paper offers implications for managing customer loyalty.

Drawing on behavioral research, we construct a multi‐period model with which to examine the role of trust and other social characteristics in a supply chain. Specifically, we focus on trust building in the context of a salesperson who acts as a representative of a manufacturer and shares demand forecast information with a retailer. The actions of the salesperson affect both her immediate economic gain and her future credibility as determined by retailer's trust. Our analysis reveals that, in such environments, although salespersons of widely varying types (e.g., honest, self‐serving, benevolent, loyal) lie some extent about their forecast information, they tend to be trusted in long relationships, provided their forecasting accuracy is higher than that of the retailer. Furthermore, while the presence of a salesperson can improve the profits of both the retailer and manufacturer, there are cost structures under which the manufacturer is better off without a salesperson. Finally, we make the general observation that the appropriate salesperson compensation scheme depends on her social characteristics, and the specific observation that when the salesperson cares for the retailer, the linear compensation scheme commonly suggested in the literature as the optimal compensation scheme for the salesperson is no longer optimal.
