This is the first report of the invasive Western conifer seed bug Leptoglossus occidentalis Heidemann, 1910 (Hemiptera, Coreidae) from the Palestine geography representing its southern-most record in Asia. The record is from Wadi Al Makhrour, a valley considered as a key biodiversity area (KBA) and a UNESCO World Heritage site. L. occidentalis is a significant pest of pine trees and an invasive species to the Mediterranean region originally from western North America. More studies are needed on its ecology, status, genetics, distribution, and potential damage in Palestine.
The western conifer seed bug, Leptoglossus occidentalis, is an alien invasive species of North American origin. Leptoglossus occidentalis was recorded for the first time in Arsoun-Metn, Lebanon in 2015. Adults and nymphs of L. occidentalis were collected by the authors from various locations in Lebanon and observed on two species of pine, Pinus pinea and Pinus brutia, on Juniperus excelsa and even on Cedrus libani. This could indicate its successful integration in the country and its presence on
many coniferous tree species. Studies to investigate the behaviour and the economic impact of this alien insect species in Lebanon are recommended.
The presence of the coreid bug Leptoglossus occidentalis in Uruguay is reported for the first
time. Records are discussed and analyzed within the context of the recent South American invasion of L. occidentalis.
Spilostethus furcula (Herrich-Schaeffer, 1850) new for Italy, on tomato crops (Heteroptera, Lygaeidae)
Abstract. The species of Afrotropical origin Spilostethus furcula (Herrich-Schaeffer, 1850) is recorded for the first time in Italy, in western Liguria. It is probably an accidental import as the species lives on wild Solanaceae but also on cultivated plants: in fact it was found on cluster tomatoes (Solanum lycopersicum, cultivar "pollicino"). At present, no significant damage has been observed.
Leptoglossus occidentalis Heidemann is a conifer seed bug, native to North America. This species is considered invasive and has reached several countries in the Northern Hemisphere and most recently Chile in South America. This work reports the first detection of this species in Argentina, with specimens from the Rio Negro province, in 2017. Ecological traits and its potential rapid spread were also discussed.
Resumen: El avispón Vespa bicolor, originario del sureste asiático, ha sido introducido accidentalmente en el sur de la provincia de Málaga (España), donde está establecido desde hace varios años. Se aportan las primeras citas ibéricas, junto con información complementaria sobre la especie.
Abstract: The black shield hornet, Vespa bicolor, native to southeastern Asia, has been accidentally introduced into Malaga province (Spain), where it has been living for several years now. The first Iberian records are provided along with some background information on the species.
The first detection of the western conifer seed bug Leptoglossus occidentalis Heidemann, 1910 (Heteroptera: Coreidae: Coreinae) in Chile is provided. Specimens were recorded in Valparaíso city, Valparaíso Region, Chile. As some specimens were identified from a ship in Coquimbo Region in Chile (contiguous to Valparaíso) in the previous month to this contribution, it is very likely that some specimens from that ship made it to Chilean territory near Valparaíso, the main Chilean port. This record is the first for this species in the Southern Hemisphere. The possible impacts in the case of establishment are discussed. Identification tips for the species of Leptoglossus Guérin-Méneville, 1831 present in Chile are provided.
