Abstract
The study examined psychosocial factors as predictors of
Distance Learning Institute (DLI) students, University of Lagos. It examines relationships among motivation and social control, self-regulation, stress and academic performance of DLI students. ... [Show full abstract] it determined the contributions of motivation and social control , self-regulation, perceived secondary academic performance of DLI students. The study adopted Correlational design. The population for the study was four to six hundred level distance learning students of the University of Lagos. Sample for the study was 404 students selected from among 400 - 600 level students using Stratified random technique with course orientation as the stratum. From science education students, 198 (49.01%) and 206 (50.99%) non- education science students Distance Learning Institute, University of Lagos were selected. The main data collection instrument was the questionnaire which was constructed using the scale Likert type. Data collected were analysed using frequency count percentages, mean, standard deviation and multiple regression analysis at 0=-CE The findings revealed that DLI students had conscientious achievement motivation, higher levels of social control which has nothing to do with their academic achievement. It was concluded that self -regulation and high perceive:
stress level predicted DLI students' academic achievement.
