Abaqus2Matlab is a program for connecting Abaqus and Matlab into a unique integrated simulation and programming environment, targeted for academia and industry. It can be used to retrieve results from an ABAQUS analysis, which can be easily transferred from ABAQUS to MATLAB for further processing and vice versa. The author of this package is open to any recommendations, observations, bug reports, comments (positive or negative), which will be used as a feedback to improve the toolbox in future versions. It is written in MATLAB programming language and is available as partially compiled source code distributed under a BSD-style license. Abaqus2Matlab is a program for the extraction of ABAQUS analysis results to MATLAB. The software architecture and usage are appropriately described and two problems of particular engineering significance are addressed to demonstrate its capabilities. Firstly, the software is employed to assess cleavage fracture through a novel 3-parameter Weibull probabilistic framework. Then, its potential to create and train neural networks is used to identify damage parameters through a hybrid experimental–numerical scheme, and model crack propagation in structural materials by means of a cohesive zone approach. The source code, detailed documentation and a large number of tutorials can be freely downloaded from www.abaqus2matlab.com.
