Artificial intelligence - The next frontier in pediatric dentistry

a boon to pediatric restorations in terms of time and
aesthetics. Pain control with AI enabled devices is the
new, smarter way towards injection‑free pedodontic
practice. Also, AI can be used to enhance the teaching
and learning process for students as well as patients.
The various 4D goggles, movies, animations and
virtual reality‑based games can be used as a behaviour
modication aid effectively for pediatric patients.
Thus, a dramatic improvisation of AI based pediatric
dentistry would change the way we practice as well
as teach. Dentistry and oral healthcare, promisingly,
is a very natural customer for articial intelligence
applications in the near future.

The use of articial intelligence (AI) and machine
learning systems is escalating in all frontiers. AI is
dened as a eld of science and engineering concerned
with the computational understanding of what is
commonly called intelligent behaviour and with the
creation of artifacts that exhibit such behaviour. Over
the years, AI has changed how dentistry is practiced
with computer‑based diagnosis and radiological
applications gaining enormous momentum.
In pediatric dentistry AI has many potential applications
which would change the face of behavioural pediatric
practice in future. Also, with the help of larger datasets,
machine learning algorithms will only become more
sophisticated over time. AI is also gaining pace in the
early orthodontic tooth movement with customized
AI driven appliances which would have better
acceptability by the new generation. AI enabled
restorative dentistry with computer‑aided design
computer‑aided manufacturing technology is already
established in adult dental practice and would emerge

Artificial intelligence (AI) is a technological breakthrough that is rapidly progressing and has captivated the minds of researchers all over the world. AI can be used to make a diagnosis of oral cavity lesions, detect and identify suspicious changed oral mucosa undergoing premalignant and malignant transformations. The purpose of this review is to give a comprehensive summary of developing optical imaging technologies, innovative artificial intelligence-based techniques. The concepts of image-based techniques for identifying oral cancer are defined in terms of clinical requirements and features. Although artificial intelligence (AI) is beginning to have a significant impact on increasing diagnosis accuracy in a variety of fields of medicine, there has been limited research on oral cancer to date. These results suggest that combining artificial intelligence with imaging can improve oral cancer outcomes, applications ranging from very low-cost oral cancer screening with Smartphone-based probes to algorithm-guided identification premalignant lesion heterogeneity and margins using optical coherence tomography. Oral cancer outcomes can be improved by combining imaging and artificial intelligence technologies for better detection and diagnosis.

Background: Technology has become a fundamental part of human living. The evolution of technology has been advantageous to science development, including dentistry. One of the latest technology that draw many attention is Artificial Intelligence (AI). Purpose: The aim of this review is to explain the use of AI in many disciplines of dental specialties and its benefit. Reviews: The application of Artificial Intelligence may be beneficial for all dental specialties, varying from pediatric dentist to oral surgeon. In dental clinic management, AI may assist in medical record as well as other paperwork. AI would also give a valuable contribution in important dental procedures, such as diagnosis and clinical decision making. It helps the dentist deliver the best treatment for the patients. Conclusion: The latest development of Artificial Intelligence is beneficial for dental practitioner in the near future. It is considered as a breakthrough of the 21 st century to support the diagnostic procedure and decision making in clinical practice. The use of AI can be applied in most of dental specialties.

One of the most important actors in the digitization process of our age has been the applications of artificial intelligence (AI). While the weak and strong AI sub-concepts and the different AI models within them are being utilized in many fields such as education, industry and medicine today, the interest of the dentistry field, which has started its integration into the digital world with CAD/CAM technology, in AI is increasing day by day. In different branches of dentistry; AI provides services to clinicians and researchers in many fields such as disease diagnosis, evaluation of the occurrence or recurrence of diseases such as oral cancer, and prediction of success in surgical and prosthetic treatments. In this article, studies in which AI models such as machine learning, convolutional neural network have found research and usage areas on the basis of different branches of dentistry are reviewed.
