Abstract

Synopsis. Badania przeprowadzono w latach 2010-2012 na odłogach położonych w gminie Trzebinia (Małopolska), miejscami silnie zanieczyszczonych metalami ciężkimi. Na 75 powierzchniach badawczych określono skład gatunkowy roślinności, na podstawie którego obliczono liczby wskaźnikowe Ellenberga: uwilgotnienia (F), odczynu (R), zasobności gleby w azot (N) i temperatury (T) oraz pokrycie roślinnością i jej średnią wysokość. Na każdej powierzchni pobrano próby glebowe, w których oznaczono: skład granulometryczny, zawartość materii organicznej, przewodność elektrolityczną, odczyn gleby oraz zawartość Cd, Zn, Pb i Cu. W składzie gatunkowym roślinności dominowały gatunki łąkowe i ruderalne. Największe zróżnicowanie liczb wskaźnikowych stwierdzono w odniesieniu do zasobności gleby w N i jej uwilgotnienia. Liczby wskaźnikowe T, R, N skorelowane były ze składem granulometrycznym gleby oraz zawartością materii organicznej i przewodnością elektrolityczną. Liczby wskaźnikowe F i N powiązane były z produktywnością, wyrażoną pokryciem roślinnością i średnią wysokością roślin, a zawartość metali ciężkich ze wskaźnikiem odczynu R. W niewielkim stopniu wielkość poszczególnych wskaźników zależała od kompleksu glebowo-rolniczego. W Polsce proces odłogowania nasilił się szczególnie po transformacji ustrojowej po 1989 roku i dotyczył w pierwszej kolejności gleb najsłabszych [Marks i Nowicki 2002]. Obecnie na wielu obszarach odłogowane są także grunty orne dobrej jakości, jednak położone w regionach, gdzie ludność jest w stanie osiągnąć wyższe do-chody ze źródeł pozarolniczych. Dodatkowym czynnikiem mogącym wpływać na wyłączenie pól z uprawy jest wysoki poziom zanieczyszczenia środowiska. Grunty wyłączone z uprawy ulegają wtórnej sukcesji, której końcowym etapem jest las w naszej strefie klimatycznej. Nie zawsze jednak jest to proces korzystny z punktu widzenia człowieka. W perspektywie konieczne może być ich ponowne zagospodarowanie. Tereny takie mogą być także miejscem występowania wielu cennych nieleśnych zbiorowisk roślinnych.

W artykule przedstawiono zróżnicowanie wybranych charakterystyk dwóch podstawowych komponentów borów sosnowych: roślinności (składu gatunkowego, synuzjów, bio-masy oraz wartości liczb wskaźnikowych) oraz gleb (dominujących procesów glebowych i właści-wości gleb) w różnych skalach przestrzennych: od makrogeograficznej do lokalnej. Badaniami objęto 12 stanowisk (6 obiektów x 2 powierzchnie): po jednym w Holandii, Szwecji , Polsce oraz 3 w Rosji: Perm, St. Petersburg i Irkuck. W każdym obiekcie było jedno stanowisko znajdujące się w naturalnym zbiorowisku leśnym i jedno w zasięgu silnej antropopresji. Głównym celem badań była identyfikacja powiązań między cechami strukturalnymi zbiorowiska leśnego, jego charakterystykami ekologicznymi i cechami gleby. Otrzymane wyniki pozwalają wnioskować, że większość analizowanych charakterystyk zmienia się w trzech różnych płaszczyznach: geogra-ficznej, lokalno-siedliskowej oraz oddziaływań antropogenicznych. Wstęp Sosna zwyczajna jest jednym z ważniejszych gatunków lasotwórczych i domieszkowych w wielu typach zbiorowisk leśnych Eurazji. Z punktu widzenia klasyfikacji fitosocjologicznej (syntaksonomii) lasy z dominacją Pinus sylvestris zalicza się do klasy Vaccinio-Piceetea Br.-Bl. 1939. Ponadto sosna zwyczajna sto-sunkowo często występuje w zbiorowiskach leśnych i zaroślowych należących do klas: Erico-Pinetea Horvat 1959, Querco-Fagetea Br.-Bl. et Vlieg. 1937, Querce-tea robori-petraeae Br.-Bl. et R.Tx. 1943 i kilku innych.

Grasslands of a Zn-Pb post-mining area (Olkusz Ore-bearing Region, S Poland)

We studied the diversity of grasslands in the Olkusz Ore-bearing Region (OOR). The OOR area has been severely degraded by Zn-Pb mining and polluted with heavy metals originating from mine and industrial waste and from industrial emissions. We assessed the species composition and cover of vascular plants, mosses and lichens in 9 plots at each of 28 study sites on two types of substrate (sands and dolomite mining waste). In the 252 study plots we recorded 260 species. Only one species was common (Festuca ovina) and four were noted frequently (Rumex thyrsifl orus, Leontodon hispidus subsp. hastilis, Ceratodon purpureus, Bryum pallescens). Most numerous were species typical of calcareous, warm, dry habitats and mesophilous meadows; species characteristic of poor sandy habitats and fi elds were rarer. Metallophytes were also fairly often noted (e.g., Cardaminopsis halleri, Biscutella laevigata, Brachythecium albicans, Diploschistes muscorum). Grassland diversity depended on substrate type and land use history. Grassland of abandoned fi elds developed on fertile sandy soil was richest in species, with numerous meadow and weed species (Crepis biennis, Melandrium album). Grassland on poor sandy soil was poor in vascular plants but rich in lichens (Cladonia rei, C. monomorpha). Grassland on mining ore-bearing waste was rich in thermophilous and meadow species (Thymus pulegioides, Lotus corniculatus). Grassland on mining waste was fl oristically similar to the Armerietum halleri association of metalliferous areas of Western and Central Europe. It differed by the presence of Biscutella laevigata and the frequent occurrence of Rumex thyrsifl orus, Cardaminopsis arenosa, Gypsophila fastigiata, Potentilla arenaria and Anthyllis vulneraria. The OOR grasslands, especially those developed on mining waste, should be placed under legal protection, as they contain species that are rare and unique for Poland. These grasslands increase the biotic diversity of this post-mining region and form colorful islands on its landscape.

Inconspicuous waste heaps left by historical Zn–Pb mining are hot spots of soil contamination

This study discovers and surveys sites left by former Zn-Pb mining in western Malopolska (S Poland), focusing on old heaps of mining waste rock located in agricultural land and suburban wasteland. Topsoil samples were taken from 73 heaps and described using many parameters, including heavy metal contamination (the content of total, EDTA-extractable, BaCl2-extractable and water-extractable metals), macronutrient content, pH and texture. At five sites, a short transect was delineated from heaps towards their surroundings to estimate the impact of the heaps on the adjacent agricultural soil. The total heavy metal concentration in the heap soil varied greatly across sites, ranging from 5 to 522 mg Cd kg(-1), from 94 to 23,006 mg Pb kg(-1), from 6 to 51 mg Tl kg(-1) and from 394 to 70,435 mg Zn kg(-1). These values were very high compared to that measured in the soil of the control areas: 2-5 mg Cd kg(-1), 13-67 mg Pb kg(-1), 1-17 mg Tl kg(-1) and 63-476 mg Zn kg(-1). The extractability of heavy metals from heap soil decreased in the following order: Cd > Pb > Zn > Tl (EDTA) and Cd > Zn > Pb similar to TI (BaCl2). For the most mobile metal (Cd), the extractability averaged 43% and 5% for the EDTA and BaCl2 extractants, respectively. A factor analysis reduced 33 soil physicochemical parameters to five factors that explained 72% of the variance in the data. Factor 1 represented heavy metal contamination (concentrations of both total and mobile Cd, Pb and Zn), factor 2 represented organic matter accumulation, reflecting the most likely age of a heap, factor 3 represented the total concentration of Ca, Mg and Tl derived from weathering of the waste material - mostly dolomite and calcite, factors 4 and 5 represented soil particles of different sizes. In the transect study, the amount of total and EDTA-extractable heavy metals in soil generally decreased when increasing the distance from the heaps, but still remained high in agricultural soil sampled 10 m from the foot of the heaps. The results of this study suggest that remnants of the historical Zn-Pb ore mining are "hot spots" of persistent soil contamination and may pose an environmental problem, especially those located in the inhabited areas; their status should be monitored by the local authorities.
