Internet of things is one of the most important outputs of Fourth Industrial Revolution for its numerous uses in many fields of industrial, economic, environmental, medical, military, educational and agriculture applications... It is expected to open the door to unlimited innovations that will radically change human life. With the tremendous technological development and the world's transformation under the Fourth Industrial Revolution, Internet of things will be the engine of progress, growth and prosperity over the next few years.

Lessons Learned from the 6TiSCH Plugtests

[Show full abstract] real standard compliance and interoperability between vendors. In this paper, we summarize the lessons learned during the first ETSI Plugtests event on the technology developed by the IETF 6TiSCH working group. 6TiSCH technology is cornerstone to the Industrial Internet of Things, enabling operational technologies to converge to the Internet by providing seamless IP connectivity and standardized management. The event clearly demonstrated the importance of such interoperability testing early on in the standards development. Interoperability was tested between implementations of 6TiSCH technology from multiple vendors. A total of 221 tests were performed, with a 93.7 % success rate.

From actual cases, the paper intends to develop the industrial interpretation, by highlighting poorly characterized interactions, which may result in increased risks, or, even, lately identified interactions, which are possible sources of failures. The presentation is illustrated with several examples from military and space fields.

The aim of this article was to provide that context for South Africa, interweaving the story with social, institutional, policy and technological developments over more than two centuries. The article begins in earnest with the population disruptions which accompanied the Industrial Revolution, drawing parallels between the scale of these disruptions and the 20th- and 21st-century mass urbanisation in the developing world. Thereafter the article dealt exclusively with South Africa, highlighting the major reversal of policy in the mid-20th century, prior to which time wastewater could not be discharged to watercourses, whereafter treated wastewater could only be discharged to watercourses. The article then spelt out some key current regulations, especially with respect to the skills required, and some difficulties in applying the regulations.
