Multi-objective optimal start-stop planning considering renewable energy power source

Authors:

Abstract

This paper proposes a new multi-objective solution approach for generation scheduling problem, Abstract- known as unit commitment, of the Northeast power system (NEPS) of Afghanistan with consideration of wind, solar and pumped hydro energy storage (PHES) system. The NEPS of Afghanistan is an isolated power system supplied by three sources, Afghanistan's own generation, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan. Epsilon multi-objective genetic algorithm (ɛ-MOGA), along with Pareto optimality concept, is used for the system techno-economic optimization: to maximize power supply reliability and minimize the total operation of thermal units plus aggregate imports power tariff simultaneously. The performance of the optimal case under zero loss of power supply probability (LPSP) is also examined. The simulation results confirm the superiority of the suggested optimization scheme.
