The Animation Hall of Fame, Inc. is a 501(c)3 non profit organization that exists to educate visitors, fans and scholars from around the world about the history and continuing significance of animation . It will carry out this mission through its operation of a world-class international museum complex that collects, preserves, exhibits and interprets this art form and through its library and archives as well as its educational programs. AHOF has been pursuing the dream of having the 113+ years of history of the art of animation be available to the world and at the same time preserve the artifacts, methodology, and periodicals that chronicle it. We also will encourage evolving technology and new exploration by worldwide artists and storytellers.

Journey backwards in time through the pages of the Bollettino d'Arte

A review is presented of the archaeological articles published during the journal's century of life. The author begins by observing that the first two series of the Bollettino d'Arte essentially presented articles aimed at documenting in a systematic way, and covering the whole national territory, the measures taken to increase, preserve or disseminate knowledge of the antiquities of Italy, ... [Show full abstract] understood either as objects or sites in Italy (and its colonies). She then continues by focusing on significant issues and personalities that have contributed to the progress of the journal in the course of time. The author points out, in particular, the continuous interest taken by the Bollettino d'Arte in southern Italy. This complements the interest shown by the journal in classical art, especially that of the Roman period (to which added emphasis and value were given during the fascist regime), also following archaeological exploration of the Roman Forum and Pagine Hill, Ostia Antica, Hadrian's Villa, Pompeii and Palestrina. The art of portraiture and large sculptures in bronze represent two other important and recurrent themes in successive numbers of the journal, especially in the last series (the 6th), when art-historical examination has been combined with the description of the restoration to which the artefacts have been subjected. Another major focal point of the journal was the question of "antiquities without provenance", linked to the complex problem of the clandestine export and illegal trade in archaeological finds from Italy in transalpine Europe and beyond. Two special volumes were dedicated to the presentation of materials illicitly excavated from the Collina della Motta sanctuary at Francavilla Marittima in Calabria, and since returned to Italy by the J. P. Getty Museum at Malibu (California) and by the Museum of the Institute of Archaeology at the University of Bern, once their provenance from the hinterland of Sybaris had been proved beyond doubt. The review ends with some remarks on a wholly new branch of the journal devoted to the art market, collecting, and the "memory of the antique". This new discipline, halfway between the history of art and archaeology, has been developed over the last two decades in a series of important studies by leading experts.

Recent years have witnessed a growing interest in outsider art. This is not only because works of art located on the fringe of the professional art world serve as aesthetic references for influential contemporary artists but also because, in our opinion, they form part of a much wider movement. [Show full abstract] be abandoning the restricted confines of specialized museums and centers as they conquer new spaces and attract wider audiences. This article analyzes the role of exhibitions in publicizing these works but, more importantly, it studies the underlying theoretical discourse that leads to their consideration as genuine works of art that merit a place in art history. This critical revision has taken place in a series of novel, more or less sound museological narratives on which we will center our attention. We shall consider the recent promotion and dissemination of the pioneering progressive studies from San Francisco Bay Area and the new Museum of Everything located in the United Kingdom, institutions which play a key role in the present dissemination of outsider art.

Cultural Heritage, Patrimony, and Repatriation

In contemporary usage, the terms cultural heritage and cultural patrimony are synonyms. Both are metaphors that depict the idea that the culture (material and immaterial) of a specific social group is its property, owned collectively and passed on from one generation to the next. [Show full abstract] anthropology, archaeology, art history, and philosophy have interacted with professional disciplines such as law, museology, and architecture; and these university-based fields have had to interface with a much broader public, newly interested in what has come to be called the politics of culture. Repatriation is a term that signifies the return of cultural artifacts, from metropolitan institutions that had “collected” them to local communities that can claim to have created them. Repatriation has gained momentum since the Second World War, as both decolonization and various international conventions have provided a platform for once colonized peoples to claim items of their cultural heritage that had been taken from them. Repatriation is a directional process, from center to periphery. It includes both the return of artifacts and a ceding of control over the interpretation of such artifacts. Archaeometallurgical characterization of ancient artefacts can reveal a lot about their origin, manufacturing and history. Three copper-based and one lead-based weights from the collection of the Art & History Museum, Brussels, were analysed with X-ray microanalysis (SEM-EDX) and X-Ray diffraction. This experimental analysis is coupled with the CALPHAD method (www.calphad.org) in order to map the metal structure as function of chemical composition and solidification temperature. It is found that, although very similar in appearance, these weights display very different chemical signatures that point to different manufacturing locations, methods and source material.

Although the trip had been originally planned as a hunting expedition, it turned out the archduke was a keen collector as well as a hunter. He obtained antiquities from official dealers, including the Egyptian Museum in Cairo, and procured altogether 350 objects that had originated from a number of significant excavations in Egypt in the 2nd half of the 19th century. The resulting collection of ancient artefacts was donated to the Moravian city of Olomouc, where the Archduke was a military commander of a local garrison. A museum was founded subsequently and bore his name. During the twentieth century, the collection was re-housed in Prague and is now part of the collections of the Náprstek Museum, a section of the National Museum. © 2018 Moravian Museum, Anthropos Institute, Brno.
