Mixed Reality Based Assistive Application for Visually Impaired and Blind People using HoloLens

Abstract

It is a big challenge for blind people to explore daily essential things. This paper comprehensively illustrates the implementation and design of a wearable, deep learning based object detection approach for helping visual impair and blind people. The aim of this paper is to assist people who face challenges to see the world using technical sensors without eyes. We utilize HoloLens for providing a situational view of objects around the user by scanning their surroundings. Object detection has been implemented using Azure Custom Vision service. After detecting object around the user, system read out the name of detected object. System can assist user by navigating user to the particular object that user selected by using voice command or clicker. User also can get directional guide using 3D audio feedback.
