Egypt has experienced many damaging earthquakes in both historical and
recent time. It is one of the few regions of the World where evidence of
historical earthquake Activity has been documented over the history from
2200 B.C . The beginning of earthquake recording in Egypt started by
installing the first seismic station at Helwan (25 km south of Cairo) in
1899,by 1997 the total number of seismic stations in Egypt become 70 , most
of them are broadband . According to the general distribution of the recent
major earthquake epicenters in Egypt and vicinity, the most active seismic
zones have been divided into eight regions; Aswan, Abu Dabbab, Beni Suef,
Dahshour, The Gulf of Suez region, The Gulf of Aqaba region, Cairo Suez
district and The Northern Egyptian Continental Margin.

seismic stations as a local
network around Kalabsha fault
and Northern Lake Nasser.

Conclusion
The First seismic station was install in Egypt in 1989.
The number of seismic stations gradually increased
to 70 seismic stations by 1997 . The most active
seismic zones in Egypt are Aswan, Abu Dabbab, Beni
Suef, Dahshour, The Gulf of Suez region, The Gulf of
Aqaba ,Cairo- Suez district and The Northern Egyptian
Continental Margin.
