Abstract

Images are the projection of three-dimensional (3D) real-world scenes onto a two-dimensional (2D) plane. As a result of this planar projection, images do not contain explicit depth information of objects in the scene. Only by indirect cues such as relative object size, sharpness and interposition (objects partly occluding each other), shadows, perspective factors, and object motion can we recover this depth information. © 2010 by Taylor and Francis Group, LLC CRC Press is an imprint of Taylor & Francis Group, an Informa business.
