Abstract

Introduction: student-centered learning technologies fully meet the competence approach, which is dictated by the requirements of GEF. The training in question contributes to the improvement of the quality of education and the effective formation of qualified specialists. Therefore, further development of these technologies is advisable in modern conditions. The topic that we are studying is relevant, because the process of education is dynamic and there is a need to consider new aspects of the application of student-centered teaching in higher education. Materials and methods: work to identify the specifics of the application of student-centered technologies was carried out on the basis of electronic courses located on the Moodle platform. In the process of the study, comparison was made of training outside the electronic courses, as well as with the use of computer technology, the available pedagogical experience was summarized on this issue. By electronic technology, we mean the totality of computer tools and methods used for training. Among electronic technologies in this article, we highlight the use of the Moodle educational platform, which hosts courses with the necessary tools and materials for training. Results: in the process of training, two groups of students were singled out. One of them was trained in the traditional way, the second group had access to the Internet and could perform tasks electronically. Considering student-centered training, we say that thanks to him the student becomes more independent, mobile and, as a result, productive. Interactive technologies, as practice shows, make it possible to intensify the process. The second group showed more coordinated work and achieved positive results earlier than the group that had access to traditional materials only. Discussion and Conclusions : conclusions are drawn about the student-centered approach as being productive and effective for the formation of a highly qualified specialist, since it operates within the competence approach and includes problematic training, project, uses interactive technologies that allows not only to build an individual trajectory of training in the conditions of the collective, but also acquire the necessary competencies, which the graduate will be able to implement in future professional activities. The specialist will be able to solve a variety of problems with the maximum speed, applying an unconventional approach. A large share of autonomy during the course of the training allows the student to engage in goal-setting, self-improvement, reflection, so in the future professional life, these components will not cause him difficulties.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to briefly outline the relevance of flow, a core concept of positive psychology increasingly applied in leadership development and in serious gaming. The author presents an innovative simulation game designed to teach and train how to manage and lead people based on the principles of “flow-based leadership.” Design/methodology/approach This paper briefly describes the flow theory; it relates to leadership theory and why it is increasingly applied in the context of serious games. Then an extensive review and presentation of the features of an innovative serious gaming solution is presented to demonstrate that simulations are a fruitful area into which positive psychology and leadership science are being extended now. Findings Despite the growing market segment and various areas of training applications of serious games, very few games have been developed for leadership development. A detailed report presented the conceptual and practical aspects of such a new serious game. Research limitations/implications The author’s contribution did not focus on testing a particular framework nor did it aim at exposing new numeric data findings. Instead, the author presented an in-depth case study as an inspiration for future, similar developments. Also, research questions for future analysis of data collected during the leadership development game were outlined. Practical implications Readers were informed about a new, innovative serious game application, which is successfully used for leadership development, and in particular to teach the practice of flow-based management concepts. Social implications Flow is a concept applied in many fields of life such as sports, music, arts, recreation and work-life. The positive benefits of happiness, creativity, outstanding performance and joy can lead to a fulfilling life which is a paramount value, across all cultures globally. This leadership development game can be applied in other countries and cultures. As a result, the quality of leadership across various cultures can be improved. Researchers are invited to join the outlined new research network and program. Originality/value Flow theory is probably the best known concept of positive psychology across related scientific domains such as management, arts, sports, education and spirituality. Professor Csikszentmihalyi – a global figure head – laid the scholarly foundations decades ago, but now the concept is constantly evolving and being adopted into new and changing environments. This necessitates a review – such as this contribution – where the theoretical elements also apply in the new areas of application.

Innovation management is a subdiscipline of management that studies the rules that govern the generation, diffusion, adoption of innovation, and relationships between innovation inputs and outputs. A great number of innovative products and services depend on software. In the software industry, many small entities act as subcontractors that develop components that are later integrated into larger industrial systems. However, these small entities do not have the resources needed to support long-term R&D activities and they also lack innovation management models which makes the planning and execution of innovation management difficult. These same small enterprises face similar challenges in the software development process. However, the ISO/IEC 29110 standard provides small enterprises with a clear path in implementing a systematic software development process. The planning and execution of innovation management activities may also benefit from a similar approach. This article describes an innovation activity model suited to the characteristics of small entities whose main stream of revenue is software development. Using the existing literature, standards, and the practical experience of companies with a successful history of developing innovative software-based products, this study identifies the activities and practices that lead to the development of innovative products. Interfaces between innovation management activities, software development processes, and work products are also identified.

Why do we live in Society? Why, with the exception of the occasional hermit, do we need others to survive? What are we seeking and what do we find? What process turns our needs into satisfaction, or more precisely degrees of need into degrees of satisfaction? Can what we need and what we get be measured and compared? Can we understand the “effectiveness” of a given society in terms of these two concepts? Would this provide us with a possible approach to appraisal of society?

Drawing on the experience of training graduate students and researchers in qualitative and mixed-methods analysis since the mid-1990s, the authors reflect on the evolution of a multidisciplinary graduate course developed in a Canadian university since 2007. The hands-on/hands-off course design based on the use of NVivo was developed in parallel with a conceptual and reflexive position on methodology and multidisciplinarity in the context of an action research supported by their institution. This article exposes the four basic components of the course and the constructivist assessment model based on a term-long team analysis of original data created specifically for this purpose. The balance between collective and individual work, in-class and online exchanges, hands-on experience with the software and hands-off reflection is described and compared to recent pedagogical literature on the subject. The interest of this blended approach in fostering the development of the methodological expertise expected from researchers and graduate students, as well as the main issues and challenges facing this type of training in a research environment characterised by new approaches and tools, are discussed.
