Abstract

Taking as background psychoanalytical investigations about the oral-cannibalistic phase, the article aim is to stress the contradictions of cannibalism in anthropological, psychopathological and aesthetic terms. It discusses Peter Greenaway's film The cook, the thief, his wife and her lover, Ugolino's drama in XXXIII Canto of Hell in Dante's Divine comedy and the "olfactory cannibalism" in the book The perfume of Patrick Suskind. It mentions, finally, a summary of psychoanalytical theories of Volfgango Lusetti about predatory-persecutory ideation as a basic model for human behavior.
