IN-VITRO CULTURING OF HUMAN EMBRYOS. TIME-LAPSE TECHNOLOGIES AND EMBRYOSCOPE

Authors:

Abstract

In-vitro culturing and selection of human embryos are crucial stages in the applied assisted reproduction techniques. The routinely applied standard methods of embryo assessment are based on morphological criteria at discrete time points. Efforts aimed at improving pregnancy rates in IVF procedures are focused on the search for additional biomarkers for more accurate embryo selection. The EmbryoScope is an incubator with an integrated time-lapse system, allowing a detailed observation of the embryo in real time, from the moment of fertilization to its transfer to the uterus or to cryopreservation. Time-lapse technology represents a powerful tool in assisted reproduction for evaluating the time of embryo development. Time-lapse recording introduces several important morphokinetic parameters for embryo evaluation. This additional knowledge helps us to implement an individual patient treatment approach, to optimise culturing environment, and as a final result to improve implantation rates.

In-vitro culturing and selection of human embryos are crucial stages in the
applied assisted reproduction techniques. The routinely applied standard
methods of embryo assessment are based on morphological criteria at discrete
time points. Efforts aimed at improving pregnancy rates in IVF procedures
are focused on the search for additional biomarkers for more accurate embryo
selection.
The EmbryoScope is an incubator with an integrated time-lapse system,
allowing a detailed observation of the embryo in real time, from the moment
of fertilization to its transfer to the uterus or to cryopreservation. Time-lapse
technology represents a powerful tool in assisted reproduction for evaluating
the time of embryo development. Time-lapse recording introduces several
important morphokinetic parameters for embryo evaluation. This additional
knowledge helps us to implement an individual patient treatment approach, to
optimise culturing environment, and as a nal result to improve implantation
rates.
