Abstract

Technology it is often seen as a factor that drives teacher’s stress up. One of the main reasons is that teachers do use technology to manage our class activities, and it is associated mainly with speed. Our mind relates technology only with activities like the number of emails we have in our inbox daily, papers to grade on Blackboard, how many phone calls are in our calendar for the day, or the quick log in to the next class or lesson plan. Part of the answer to the how to break this cycle comes from being able to experience mindfulness, which is the human ability to live in the present moment, fully aware of where we are, what’s going on around us, and what we are doing. Technologies can help enable this in the classroom with simple apps, reminders, and even plug-ins for class chat tools like Slack. In this session, mindful technologies in the classroom and coursework will be discussed and their application in specific scenarios presented.
