Since 1980 in the State of Táchira direct sampling, sampling with a Robinson mercury vapour trap and baited pit-fall traps (meat and dung) have been used to collect necrophagous and coprophagous scarab beetles. The list that includes the Sub-families Aphodinae, Hybosorinae. Troginae and Scarabaeinae contains twenty-four genera and nineteen species, but an estimate of at least sixty species is made, many of theses not yet described.
