Discharge of low subcooled water through divergent nozzle

A divergent nozzle is used in the boron injection tube of the 5 MW nuclear heating reactor. Its hydrodynamic characteristic under loss of coolant accident (LOCA) is studied experimentally. The discharge of water with about 20°C subcooling through divergent nozzles of 2-8mm diameters and 60°-120° divergent angles has been studied under the range of 0.7-1.5 MPa pressures. [Show full abstract] show that: 1) the critical flow can appear in this kind of divergent nozzle under certain conditions; 2) the discharge flow rate through the divergent nozzle is larger than the one calculated from the formulas for orifice under the critical conditions; 3) the discharge flow rate can be estimated according to the orifice formulas when the flow is not the critical flow in the divergent nozzle; 4) the energy loss of fluid through the divergent nozzle with a 90° divergent angle is less than one through the orifice; 5) with increase of the divergent angle the discharge flow rate through this kind of divergent nozzle decreases under the same conditions.

Installed nuclear capacity was increased by 10. 2%, from 137 GWe at the end of 1982 to 151 GWe at the end of 1983. A table lists the reactors which started commercial operation in 1983 and those expected to start up in 1984.

AGNES: reassessing the safety of paks

Treatment for effect on cross sections by introducing control rod history

The cruciform control rod controlling is the main method to control reactivity in the nuclear heating reactor (NHR). The cruciform control rod affects the flux distribution in the assembly near the control rod strongly, so the burnup distributions in assemblies which have different control rod history are different, and their average cross sections are different either. The calculation dealing ... [Show full abstract] with the effect of the control rod history in detail is very complicated, so a linear insertion method is developed. Assume the average cross section of assembly is related to total burnup and the burnup with the control rod of assembly only. Four kinds of calculations are needed, including calculations of assembly burnup with or without the control rod and two restart calculations based on the former two calculations. This method has been used to calculate assembly with gadolinium in NHR. Compared with the accurate treatment, this method is very convenient and effective.
