Abstract

This study was carried out to determine to belong species of Syrphidae family in cereal fields of Adıyaman, Diyarbakır, Şanlıurfa and Mardin provinces of Southeasthern from 2006 to 2009. In surveys, Syrphidae species were collected with sweep net and preserved within tubes being 70% alchole. As a result of study, 17 species were identified. Bu türlerden Eupeodes corollae (F.) and Sphaerophoria turkmenica Bankowska were found the most common and intensively from these species. E. corollae, Sphaerophoria rueppelli (Wiedemann), S. scripta (L.), S. turkmenica, Syritta pipiens (L.), Eristalinus aeneus Scop., Paragus bicolor (F.), Melanostoma mellinum (F.) in Adıyaman; Eristalis arbustorum (F.), E. tenax (F.), Eristalinus aeneus, E. megacephalus Rossi, M. mellinum, P. bicolor, S. turkmenica, S. pipiens in Diyarbakır; M. mellinum and Paragus quadrifasciatus Meigen in Mardin and Chrysotoxum cautum (Harris), Eristalinus sepulchralis (L.) in Şanlıurfa were recorded for the first time.

Abstract: This study was carried out between April and June of 2019 and 2020 in order to identify insects involved in pollination of Scrophularia erzincanica R.R.Mill which is aromatic and specific to Erzincan. Besides the pollinators, pests for the species were also been determined. As a result of the study, Halictus quadricinctus Fabricius (Halictidae) and Halictus pauxillus Schnck. (Halictidae) were the basic pollinators for S. erzincanica. Eristalis tenax L. (Syrphidae) and Eristalinus taeniops Wiedemann (Syrphidae) were determined as secondary pollinators. It was determined that the larvae and adults of some Coleoptera and Lepidoptera members damaged different parts of the species. The two most important pests for S. erzincanica were Gymnetron villosulum Gyllenhal and Cionus hortulanus Geoffroy from the order Coleoptera. These are particularly harmful to fruit. It has been observed that some predatory insects also use S. erzincanica as a host and aim to hunt the insects that come for different purposes such as taking nectar. Other insect taxa belonging to different insect orders, which are known to be pollinators and harmful but do not have a direct relationship with S. erzincanicus, have been observed in the habitat of S. erzincanica. In this research, these taxa were also mentioned.
... The studies to determine the Syrphidae species in Turkey are quite limited. Until now, in the studies conducted by local and foreign scientists, about 350 Syrphidae taxa were determined from Turkey (Yetkin 2006;Sorokina 2009;Gharali and Reemer 2010;Krsteska 2011;Speight and Sarthou 2011;Tóth 2013;Pehlivan and Atakan 2014;Sarıbıyık 2014;Vujić et al. 2015Vujić et al. , 2017Vujić et al. , 2020aDemirözer et al. 2016;Hayat et al. 2016;Alaserhat et al. 2016;Gözüaçık and Özgen 2018;Kočiš Tubić et al. 2018;Nedeljković et al. 2018;Grković et al. 2019;Šašić Zorić et al. 2019;Likov et al. 2020;Tolga and Yoldaş 2020). ...

This study was carried out for the determination of distribution, abundance, and species richness of hoverflies in the Lakes Region of Turkey between the years 2014–2016. Samplings were done between April and October of each year. A total of 6595 specimens belonging to 113 species, divided into two subfamilies (Syrphinae and Eristalinae) and 39 genera were determined. Eumerus bicornis Grković, Vujić et Hayat, 2019; Merodon albidus Šašić Zorić, Ačanski et Vujić, 2020; Merodon chrysurus Hurkmans et Vujić, 2020; Merodon defectus Vujić, Likov et Radenković, 2020; Merodon longisetus Vujić, Radenković et Likov, 2020; Merodon obstipus Vujić, Radenković et Likov, 2020 were described as new species for science. Whereas the most abundant species were Sphaerophoria scripta (29.87%) and Syritta pipiens (17.76%), subdominant species were Eristalis tenax, Melanostoma mellinum, Eristalis arbustorum and Eupeodes corollae. The majority of species, 89 out of 113 were recognized as rare (relative contribution 10.72%). Species distribution maps, species richness, abundance, as well as Shannon–Wiener (H’) index, species seasonal dynamic, and species sex ratio were calculated to indicate the diversity of Syrphidae species. To obtain present and for the period 2061–2080 species richness patterns and detect areas with the highest richness, we conducted a Species Distribution Modelling procedure. Considering current potential species richness, areas predicted to be most suitable for investigated hoverfly species (potentially having 29–37 species) were central-east and central-west parts of Isparta, as well as southern parts of Afyonkarahisar and northern parts of Burdur provinces. In the period of 2061–2080, it is predicted that the most suitable areas will shift from Isparta to the north and central parts of Burdur and to the western part of the Konya provinces. It is hoped that this study will stimulate further studies on the family Syrphidae in Turkey.

A taxonomical catalogue of 124 nominal species of the Iranian Syrphidae belonging to two subfamilies, 14 tribes, and 39 genera was provided. Based mostly on various faunistical survey reports, no syrphid species with collection records from Iran were listed. Therefore, we did not intend to confirm identifications by the previous studies except very obvious cases. A more comprehensive collection-based study is needed to confirm the actual Iranian occurrence of each species listed in this catalog.

In 1984, between the 1st and the 24th of May, the author spent almost a month in Turkey with three colleagues to collect hoverfly species. The field work took 22 days in the western half of the Turkey covering 53 different locations. During this time 157 hoverfly species wereollected. Based on the Syrphidae checklist of Turkey (Saribiyik 2011) 24 new taxa were detected. The newly recorded species are: Anasimyi acontracta Claussen & Torp, 1980, Anasimyia interpuncta (Harris, 1776), Anasimyia lineata (Fabricius, 1787), Brachyopa dorsata Zetterstedt, 1837, Callicera aenea (Fabricius, 1781), Cheilosia albipila Meigen, 1838, Cheilosia barbata Loew, 1857, Cheilosia chloris (Meigen, 1822), Cheilosia orthotricha Vujić & Claussen, 1994, Cheilosia praecox (Zetterstedt, 1843), Chrysotoxum verralli Collin, 1940, Dasysyrphus venustus (Meigen, 1822), Helophilus pendulus (Linnaeus, 1758), Merodon natans (Fabricius, 1794), Neoascia geniculata (Meigen, 1822), Neoascia meticulosa (Scopoli, 1763), Orthonevra brevicornis (Loew, 1843), Orthonevra incisa (Loew, 1843), Orthonevra splendens (Meigen, 1822), Paragus cinctus Schiner & Egger, 1853, Parhelophilus frutetorum (Fabricius, 1775), Pipizella viduata (Linnaeus, 1758), Psilota innupta Rondani, 1857, Sphaerophoria interrupta (Fabricius, 1805).

Survey studies on the lucerne and sainfoin fields in Ankara and Konya were carried out in order to determine harmful and beneficial insect fauna between 1990-1991. Samples were collected from 3 counties of each provinces, 3 villages of each county and 3 fields of each village. Counting were done by taking the samples on ground, the leaves and stem, checking the roots, sweeping. Counting have been done once a month . In this study, 60 different species in 13 Coleoptera, in 10 Heteroptera, in 27 Homoptera, in 8 Thysanoptera, in 1 Hymenoptera, in 1 Lepidoptera as harmful insects and 36 different species in 12 Coleoptera, in 5 Heteroptera, in 2 Thysanoptera, in 11 Hymenoptera, in 6 Diptera as beneficial insects have been identified on lucerne and sainfoin. According to the obtained results, the lucerne and sainfoin fields have a very rich harmful and beneficial insects fauna. Among these species, It has been determined that Bembecia scopigera (Scopoli.) and Sphenoptera carceli Cast. and Groy are the most important pests in sainfoin fields. Hypera variabilis Hbst., H.farinosa Boh. are most important pests in lucerne fields. In addition, Bruchophagus roddi Guss. which is harmful in lucerne seed is first record in lucerne fields and Turkey.
