Pranic Healing for Partially Blind - Une étude de cas
Abstrait

Pranic healing for visual impairment Srikanth and Nagendra
INTRODUCTION
Visual impairment is a reduced capacity
to see to a degree that causes problems not fixable
by usual means, such as glasses. The common
causes of visual impairment world-wide are
uncorrected refractive errors 43%, cataracts 33%,
and glaucoma 2%. Globally,
People with visual
impairment have difficulties to carry out daily
activities including driving, reading, watching
television, socializing, and walking (1,2) Visual
impairment can be corrected to some extent using
gene therapy, complementary therapies like yoga
(3,4), eye exercise and acupuncture (5).
about 191 million
people are visually impaired and this is one of the
top 10 disabilities worldwide.
Pranic Healing (PH) is a complementary
technique, making use of the prana or vital energy
as its main source of healing power. It is a simple
yet powerful and an effective system of no-touch
energy healing. PH is based on the principle that
the body is a self-healing living entity with the
capacity to cure itself. The healing process is
hastened by increasing this life force which is
readily available from the sun, air, and ground to
address physical & emotional imbalance's (6,7).
The energy body has major, minor and mini
chakras, just as the physical body has major and
minor organs. The major chakras or centres not
only control and energize the internal organs but
also control and affect one's psychological
conditions (8).
Application of PH as complementary
therapy has been found to be effective in various
domains. PH is associated with significant
reduction in depression (9), Chronic Obstructive
Pulmonary Disorder (COPD) (10), Musco-
skeletal pain (11), asthma (12), increase in
wellbeing by manipulating the energy fields of
subjects (13). PH is also being practised by well-
educated followers to achieve personal and
professional growth (14). It is also being applied
in agriculture to improve plant growth and obtain
higher yield (15).
CASE REPORT
A 14-year-old visually impaired subject
attending a Visually Impaired School from The
Gambia, West Africa participated in this study.
The subject was diagnosed with subconjunctival
hemorrhage and low vision problem since birth.
Other symptoms include blurred vision, dry eyes,
and headache. The subject's unaided visual acuity
in both eyes were 6/60 after undergoing check-up
from a Tertiary Eye Care Centre, the Gambia.
(Table 1). This 6/60 means, that visually impaired
person can see an object at a distance of 6 meters
as compared with a normally sighted person who
could see the same object at a distance of 60
meters.

During the Pranic Healing (PH) session,
the healer projects prana to the energy field of the
participant to rebalance and strengthen them.
The subject, subject's parents and
authorities at visually impaired school were
briefed about PH, its method and benefits during
a meeting at hospital resource centre for the blind.
Their written consent was obtained from the
subject, subjects parents and authorities at
visually impaired School. PH was applied by a
trained Pranic Healer, recruited from
During the healing sessions, the subject was
comfortably seated on a chair with palms facing
upwards, with his tongue connecting upper palate
to enable the flow of pranic energy. The pranic
healer first prays to the Almighty God, standing at
a distance of 1 – 2 meters away from the subject.
The healer removes the used up energies from the
affected areas by cleansing and disintegrates this
energy in a salt basin. The healer will latter
energise the affected areas using Prana as
introduced by Master Choa Kok Sui. The
protocol done by the Healer is provided in brief
A total of 50 PH sessions, each of 20
minutes duration for a period of 8 months were
applied to the subject (6).
DISCUSSIONS
After completion of 50
pranic healing sessions, the subject had his vision
rechecked at the
. He was seen to have a better unaided
visual acuity in both eyes, which enabled the
doctors to prescribe correct power spectacles.
The subject's unaided visual acuity in the left eye
improved from 6/60 to 6/18. His right eye also
improved from 6/60 to 6/36 (Table 2). Visual
acuity using pinhole + glasses method for both
eyes improved to 6/12 and 6/18 in the left and
right eyes respectively. The dryness in the eyes,
eye pain and headache were completely healed,
although blurred vision remained. Observing his
visual improvement, he was advised to be
transferred to a conventional school for further
studies. The details of his Post-Pranic diagnosis
are provided in Table 2.

Prana is the vital energy that has the potential to
heal. PH promote circulation of prana in the body
by facilitating the drawing in of fresh prana and
expelling of used-up prana. PH energizes the eyes
through Ajna chakra with light whitish green
colour prana. This is to clean and loosen the
diseased and used up energies in the minute
nadies in the eye (6-8). Removal of used up prana
or contaminated energies from the subject could
probably lead to an overall improvement in the
participant vision. Previous studies have revealed
that few spiritually-based healing practices while
invoking for higher energies, were found to be
useful in promoting wellbeing. During PH
session, the healers pray to the almighty before,
during and after the healing session, which
facilitates the presence of divine energy in
healing (9,10).
The study suggests that Pranic Healing
was effective as a complementary therapy to
overcome visual problems like itching, pains,
redness, headache, watering of eyes and improve
vision.

This is the first part of a research work to study the reliability of the Gas Discharge Visualization (GDV) device and the Bio-Well, two biofield machines based on the Kirlian effect and electrophotonic imaging. Their working, accuracy, and usefulness were analyzed in a Pranic Healing experiment, which is reported in the second part of this study. Here the scientific literature concerning Pranic Healing and Kirlian photography, as well as the functioning of these biofield machines, are reviewed. Pranic Healing has been practiced in Ayurveda for millennia, in order to restore and promote health, by manipulating the flow of subtle energy Prana throughout the human organism. Kirlian photography has been used for decades to measure the human energy field, in order to assess its bioenergetic condition and potential, as well as validate a variety of therapeutic modalities. In the second part of this work, previous reliability studies on Kirlian photography devices will be reviewed, drawing negative conclusions about the utility of these machines in biofield science. An original experiment will also be presented, where the GDV device and the Bio-Well were utilized to evaluate the effect of Pranic Healing on human and water energy fields, with controls. Results were inconsistent, showing the limitations of these technologies, highlighting their incapacity to return meaningful bioenergetic information, and thus suggesting that their use in biofield science should be revisited.

Background: Ayurveda, the Indian system of medicine, has long highlighted the harmony of the body, mind, and spirit. Subtle anatomy deals with the perceptive of the energetic facets of the human being. Unlike gross anatomy, which deals with the structural organisation, subtle anatomy delves into the further insubstantial magnitude of subsistence. Fundamentals of subtle anatomy include Nadi (Energy channels), Prana (Life force), Chakra (Energy centres), Kosha (Sheaths) & Oja (Nectar/essence of body tissues). The subtler dimensions of the Ayurvedic anatomy remain under explored and critical to overall health. Objective: To explicate the perception of subtle anatomy in Ayurveda and delineate its role in integrative health approach. Materials and Methods: An all-inclusive appraisal and analysis was done on various concepts of subtle anatomy in Ayurveda and Yoga philosophy, including classical compendiums like Charaka Samhita and Sushruta Samhita. A review of contemporary literature along with journal articles, and online information related to the topic was also considered. Textual inputs from various other traditional approaches were also searched thoroughly and analysed. Results: The positive outcomes of various studies conducted worldwide give an essence of the benefits of an integrative approach of healing with subtle anatomical entities and contemporary medicine. Not only psychological disorders but also physical disorders like diabetic foot etc. have been recovered more efficiently via a subtle energy approach. Conclusion: Immense portrayal of subtle energies and their implication are described in Ayurveda and contemporary texts. The holistic approach of Ayurveda cannot be achieved without understanding its subtle anatomical entities with practical value. The exploration revealed the indispensable importance of subtle anatomy, providing an insight into its relations with physiological processes, psychological health, spiritual balance and overall, well-being.

Background Diabetic Foot Ulcers (DFUs), a serious complication of diabetes, have limited solutions in conventional therapies. The condition needs holistic management of blood glycemic levels; foot wounds; and possible regeneration of nerves in the soles of patients. Objective To evaluate the efficacy of Pranic Healing as a complimentary therapy in managing Diabetic Foot Ulcers (DFUs). Methods Thirty diabetic subjects already on standard therapy for Diabetes, co morbidities and wound care for Diabetic Foot Ulcers were assigned on a 1:1 basis to the trial and control groups. While both groups continued to receive standard therapy, the trial group additionally received Pranic Healing therapy. The Clinician, nursing staff, assessors and patients were blinded. Pranic Healers carried out healing on the trial group remotely, every day for 50 to 60 minute for stress, diabetes, local wound healing, blood cleansing and regeneration of nerves in the soles. The efficacy variables were the mean change from baseline in wound parameters and grade of DFU, overall well-being and HbAlc levels. Results At the end of the trial, about 83.33% participants in the trial group demonstrated lowering of size and severity of the ulceration and improved to a lower grade of DFU compared to 44.4% in control group. The trial group reported a significant reduction in wound area and HbA1c levels. The trial group showed better readings for improved sensory perception in the soles through changes in the large fibre dysfunction and damaged nerves as compared to the control group. Approximately 76.9% of participants in the trial group reported lower stress levels compared to 22.22% in the control group. Conclusions Pranic Healing intervention can be a safe and effective adjunct in managing Diabetic Foot Ulcers.

Pranic healing (PH) is a non-touch complementary therapy that uses energy (prana) for healing ailments. In Bhutan, PH's healers and clients have grown since it first began in 2012. This study explores the knowledge, attitude, and practice of PH in Bhutan due to the lack of prior scientific studies. The data in this study came from 150 clients and 50 healers. Respondents were selected using the simple random sampling technique from the Pranic Healing Centre's list of patients and healers. Data were collected via online and face-to-face surveys using pretested semi-structured questionnaires. Quantitative data, including frequencies and percentages, were analyzed descriptively, while content analysis was used for analyzing answers from open-ended questions. Patients with psychiatric disorders have mostly availed PH. Many clients have also availed PH for general cleansing and ailments of nonspecific symptoms like body pain. Although some respondents have a wrong understanding of PH, respondents reported a positive attitude toward PH. People practiced PH because it is effective as a complementary treatment. Increasing accessibility through increasing PH centers, healers, and awareness could improve PH culture in Bhutan.

Abstract Introduction: Yoga Prana Vidya (YPV) system based on ancient yogic practices, is an integrated approach known from experience to heal diverse human diseases and sicknesses holistically. This case study presents the outcomes of vision improvements of participants through Yoga Prana Vidya (YPV) healing techniques by conducting a two-week eye healing camp at Bangarpet, Karnataka. Materials and Methods: This is a case study method going into details of how the YPV eye camp was conducted. The YPV team collaborated with eye doctors of the local Government hospitals who screened and helped to identify a sample of 27eye patients. YPV healers performed healing daily on each patient. In addition, the patients were trained to practice some YPV techniques on daily basis. Patient feedback reports were also taken at the end of the intervention. Results: After receiving healing, vision improved for 23 participants from 80% to 100% within 5 to 10 days of healing. Seven of them could read without spectacles. However, for one patient cylindrical and spherical values were found to be higher than at intake, which needed further investigations. Three participants could not participate fully in the camp and discontinued for personal reasons. Conclusion: It is observed that the YPV process caused other positive effects also besides improvements in vision for most of them, indicating the holistic nature of YPV healing. Participants who regularly attended forgiveness prayer and breathing exercises had better results. A participant who had been suffering from insomnia reported getting quality deep sleep. The aim of this exploratory study was to examine client demographics and expectations, reasons for use, sensations during treatment, and perceived outcomes of Pranic Healing, an energy healing system lacking in scientifi c documentation but whose use in the general population is becoming more widespread internationally. This study consisted of a crosssectional survey of adults (18+ years of age) receiving care from 12 Pranic Healing practices in four diff erent states in the U.S. (N = 179) completing online questionnaires. Closed-ended response sets were analyzed descriptively, while qualitative data were analyzed using content analysis. Reasons to use the therapy included physical, mental/emotional, and metaphysical issues, dissatisfaction with conventional care, and overall well-being. Expectations of care included enhanced abilities, cure or relief, or unsure. Respondents were more likely to cite a specifi c problem from which they needed alleviation than to cite overall health or wellness as their goal. Sensations experienced were reported to be of a relaxing nature and not, as was hypothesized, of an energizing nature. Results show that those who use Pranic Healing fi t the sociodemographic profi le of CAM (complementary and alternative medicine) users in the United States, that their reasons for use are not homogeneous, and that preliminary descriptive data from a selective subsample of respondents indicated that some respondents are experiencing positive outcomes attributed to this modality.

BACKGROUND Yoga's benefits on various aspects of health for sighted children is substantially supported by the literature. This study aimed to extend those fidings to children with visual impairment. OBJECTIVE The aim of the study was to measure changes in upper extremity strength and motor speed in children with visual impairment following 16-weeks of yoga training. METHODS This was a two arm pre post, single blind, waitlist-controlled study. Eighty-three (yoga [n= 41], control [n= 42]) participants (aged 9-16 years) enrolled, 6 dropped out from the trial. Demographic characteristics were not significantly different between the two groups. The following variables: upper extremity muscle strength; elbow flexion and elbow extension, pinch strength and motor speed were evaluated bilaterally using a handheld dynamometer, pinch dynamometer and finger tapping board respectively at baseline and after the 16-week intervention. SPSS-20 was used for statistical analysis. RESULTS Significant improvements in all variables (P < 0.05) were observed in the yoga group for both limbs but no significant changes were observed in the control group. CONCLUSION The study suggests that yoga may be considered an effective option to improve muscle strength and motor function in children with visual impairment.
