Abstract

Earthquakes are, by definition, a sudden release of energy in the earth's crust or upper mantle resulting in generation of seismic waves that can be destructive. On the other hand, manmade constructions have been built in order to withstand all predicted impacts. Sometimes structures have to be assessed in order to determine the performance for the next earthquake impact. Recent codes such as Eurocore 8 require nonlinear analysis procedures in order to predict the behavior of a structure to a designed earthquake. Pushover analysis is one of the most used and reliable types of analysis, hence is used for the structure that is point of interest. Reinforced concrete frame structure, a school building in L'Aquila, Italy has been analyzed and the conclusions regarding the seismic behavior were drawn.
