Déjà Vécu and Déjà Visité: Similarities and Differences Further Results From an Online Questionnaire

Over an eight year period, an online questionnaire, devised as a pilot project, collected exploratory data in order to compare the particularities of déjà vécu (i.e., event-related) experiences with those of déjà visité (i.e., location-related). In a previous paper it was shown that there are sufficient differences in the results for these two experiences to warrant considering them as being separate entities. Here, additional analyses have established a number of relationships that differ across the two phenomena. Their elucidation will require further investigations with improved research instruments and the studied population will have to be broader based in order to establish if the relationships determined here will be found to be true in the general population.

Deja Vecu and Deja Visite Similarities and Differences: Initial Results from an Online Investigation

It has been posited that the experience commonly called 'deja vu' can be subdivided into several types of deja experience. For the past nine years an internet questionnaire has collected data about what are called 'deja vecu' (already lived through) and 'deja visite' (already visited) experiences. It is clear from the data that deja vecu experiences occur more frequently than do deja visite ones. ... [Show full abstract] Further analysis of the data has shown that deja vecu experiences were rated as being significantly longer than those of deja visite. In addition, the mean age of the first experience was lower for deja vecu experiences as compared with deja visite ones. Moreover, positive emotions outweighed negative ones for both experiences while both tended to have sudden onsets. More deja vecu experiences were said to occur in a state of hyper-alertness, tended to be more comprehensive, were remembered in greater detail, and involved precognition more often than occurred in instances of deja visite. It appears one may be justified in considering these as two separate experiences. In the future, it would be desirable to conduct representative studies to obtain information about the frequencies of occurrence of the various types of deja experience in the general population and in-depth analyses regarding their situational context and content.

Coloring Time! The Effect of Color in Pictures on Time Perception

Past research suggests that scrambling scene structure influences the subjective durations of scenes (Varakin, Klemes, & Porter, 2013, QJEP). The present experiments tested the effects of color on duration judgments of scenes using a temporal bisection task. [Show full abstract] judged whether the duration was closer to a pre-learned short (400ms) or long (1600ms) standard. Two types of scenes were presented: black-and-white (BW) or color. To evaluate differences in subjective durations, bisection points were calculated separately for each scene type for each participant. A bisection point is the duration at which 50% of responses are predicted to be "long," thus, a decrease in the bisection point implies an increase in subjective duration. In Experiment 1, there was no difference between the average bisection point for the color (M = 1008ms, SD = 229ms) and BW scenes (M = 1021ms, SD = 188ms): t(24) = 0.56, p > .05. In Experiment 2 (n = 26), we wanted to ensure that participants attended to color. The method was similar to Experiment 1, except that on some trials, participants categorized scenes as BW or color. On remaining trials, they did the temporal bisection task as in Experiment 1. Participants did not know which task they needed to perform until the end of the trial, and therefore had to pay attention to both duration and color. In Experiment 2, the average bisection point for BW scenes (M = 1036ms, SD = 213ms) was higher than for colored scenes (M = 977ms, SD = 154ms): t(25) = -2.47, p <.05. The Effects of Item Contiguity and Probing on Measures of Anomia

Probing uncertain respondents significantly altered response distribution and interitem associations in several cases, but the effects were slight and were not due to agreeing response bias. The findings suggest that variations in the placement of anomia items, and in the extent to which uncertain respondents are probed, are not likely to inflience survey results.

However, there was no main effect found for physical attractiveness nor any interaction effect for verbal expressiveness and physical attractiveness. The results of this study demonstrate that verbal clients are perceived more favorably by social workers than are nonverbal clients regardless of the physical attractiveness of the client.

The results were compared with the results of the Mini-Mental State Examination, used as the 'golden standard'. Conclusion: Many somatic nursing home patients appear to have cognitive disturbances. Both applicant and committee have difficulties in recognizing these cognitive disturbances. The present procedure of indication and admission does not seem to be an adequate way of distinguishing between somatic and psychogeriatric nursing home patients. The suggestion is made to bring the separation between somatic and psychogeriatric patients up for discussion.
