networking sites blaring about world happenings, youth can

understand that there is more to the world than just what is
happening in the ‘hood.
Help Develop Social Skills:
Many teens are socially awkward. Social Media also gives
them the probability to develop their social circle and
develop new friendships.[7] Other benefits include social
confidence, heightened literacy in the media, and more
social support. Social media diversifies teen’s social skills,
which in turn helps them navigate successfully through
modern society.
Inspire Them:
When our teen watches an action flick, don’t just despair
about the violence. With a minute control on teens, they can
use the movie as encouragement, motivation and
inspiration! Maybe our teen will decide to take up martial
arts training, all thanks to a Bruce Lee movie! Mostly
youngsters give the impression of being celebrities, and
when a celebrity tells them to stay off drugs, they just might
listen.
Help Develop Reading And Writing Skills:
When a celebrity talks of her favorite book, a teenager
might be tempted to grab a book too.
B. Positive Effect of Social Media on Kid and Teens
Distorted Body Image:
The world is full of perfect people today. With the use of
Photoshop the images are everywhere and lead to distorted
body image among a number of teenagers. Anorexia and
bulimia are a fall out of this body image crisis.
Risky Sexual Behavior:
Young people are simply finding their sexuality. It is
exceptionally typical for them to be occupied with
everything sexual. However, the measure of sex in media
today can make an adolescent befuddled. Sex without duty
that is by all accounts the message being radiated at
adolescents. This can prompt untrustworthy sexual conduct
and undesirable pregnancies.
Score Low In School:
Teens who watch too much television have lower scores in
exams. During a study it is mentioned that persons with high
degree scores watch less television in their childhood and
teenage. Another study reveals that different media affects
school work differently.[6] The media today is powerful and
omnipresent. You just can’t escape its tentacles. And you
don’t need to! Retain this information in mind, media is
presently a tool and like any other tool, how you use it
depends on you.
IX. HANDLING INFLUENCE OF SOCIAL
MEDIA ON YOUTH AND TEENS:
Here are some ways to handle the influence of social media
on teenagers:
Check out the music, movies, TV shows, games and
celebrities your child likes. Once we know what is
interesting to them, we can spot the pictures and
messages that are influencing them.
It is quite easy for our teens to watch YouTube videos
on mobiles so that we may not know what he is
watching. Parents must try monitoring the teenager on
what he is watching on TV or the internet and try to
discuss some limits and rules.
One of the best ways to help the teens navigate the
influences on media is to talk about messages.[4] For
instance, if the teen love girls, we can talk to them
about female friendships, life choices, self-esteem and
sexuality.
Monitoring teen’s choices does not mean we ban them
from watching media. It is just making them aware of
the negative influences.
We should also choose to ban some apps, shows and
games. Explain why we are doing so.
We can also encourage our teen to interpret media by
putting forward some questions they can ask. Pick out a
TV ad or a magazine and ask the teen: who’s behind it,
what is their motivation, how does it make them feel,
what they needs from it, and so on.
We can do the same with our teen’s role model.
Encourage our teen to ask him like why does they like
that celebrity, does they follow him in real life, what
values of the celebrity interest our teens and so on.

The state of health of a person or population is assessed regarding morbidity, impairments, anthropological measurements, mortality, functional status indicators, and quality of life. This study seeks to determine whether or not social media usage influenced Jamaicans' self-reported health status and the effectiveness of using social media for health information. Non-probability sampling technique (convenience sampling) was used to get data from 1082 respondents across the island, using a web-based standardized survey created in Google Forms to collect the data. The data was then converted from Google Forms into IBM Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) Version 25 software used to analyze data in Windows. The findings revealed that of the 1082 sampled respondents, 24.3% rely on social media and also deemed it effective for retrieving health information by rating it at an 8/10, while 19.9% did not rely on social media and considered it less effective for retrieving health information by rating it at 5/10. These findings suggest that social media positively influences those who depend on it to retrieve health status information. The model for rating the effectiveness of social media is a statistically significant one χ2 =210.347, P= 0.001. This study has also proved that social media has somewhat influenced Jamaicans to report their health status. Technology usage has been increasing over the years, and with the advent of the COVID-19 pandemic, fewer persons are
... However, in terms of the negative effects, Karim et al. (2020) state that individuals who use social media experienced higher levels of depressive and anxiety symptoms due to the fact that humans are not designed to live off intangible social relationships (Kircaburun, 2016). Another reason is that social media may be used to compare between themselves and their peers, which then leads to low self-esteem or feelings of envy (Akram & Kumar, 2017;Naslund et al., 2020). Moslehpour and Batjargal (2013) also found a positive correlation was found between levels of stress and Internet addiction, as well as feelings of loneliness and Internet addiction amongst Malaysians. ...

Social media is a constantly growing part of adolescents' lives and is becoming more widely used as technological advancement has grown over the years. It has been shown to be driven by positive and negative gratifying experiences. However, a clear understanding regarding the effects social media has on adolescents' mental health, as well as the reasons social media is so widely used is still uncertain. This study explored the social media usage amongst Malaysian adolescents in terms of the factors affecting social media usage and the effects it has on their mental health. A qualitative phenomenological approach was used to gather data, by interviewing 10 Malaysian adolescents from Kuala Lumpur and Selangor. Data analysis was conducted by analysing common themes and coding the data accordingly. The results showed that Malaysian adolescents use social media for both positive and negative purposes. Positive purposes included to seek information, to communicate with others, as well as decrease negative mood and boredom. Negative purposes included to seek online validation, due to the fear of missing out, addiction, and the anticipation of positive effects in the future. This is of concern as these purposes caused some to experience more negative than positive effects on their mental health, such as an increase in negative mood and a decrease in self-esteem.
... Social media sites benefit students by providing platforms that foster communication and lifelong learning, and facilitate access to distance and open education, e-learning resources and elibraries (Saleh, 2020). Lecturers who impart knowledge to students also benefit from the use of social media by sharing educational materials, exchanging ideas, reading through colleagues' research, getting updated on research trends and, most significantly, establishing their own professional networks (Akram and Kumar, 2017). Social media created precisely for educational audiences a distinct opportunity for those audiences to learn and create a robust academic discussion among themselves. ...

Students who receive literacy training tied to real-life assignments show greater improvement in literacy scores. The significance of this study revolves around the prominent role accorded social media in academic community for research, teaching and learning. In spite of the benefits associated with the use of social media for academic purposes, it is observed that many students, teachers/lecturers have not been fully exploring these advantages to improve their academic performance. The study investigated the awareness, access and social media challenges encountered by postgraduate students of Information Studies, UKZN during the lockdown caused by COVID-19 pandemics. The study employed a quantitative research design in form of an online questionnaire, using Google Forms. Fifty-five post-graduate students were sampled, of which 51 participated, giving a response rate of 93%. The findings revealed (Facebook, Instagram, Zoom, Twitter and WhatsApp) as major (100%) types of social media available for post graduate students for their academic purpose. The findings further revealed smartphone as a major tool for accessing social media by the respondents (96%), and the major challenges restraining students from effectively utilising social media for academic activities. The study underscores the importance of social media in an academic environment and offers some recommendations that could lead to more informed and effective use of social media for academic purposes.

Social media captures examples of people's behaviors, actions, beliefs, and sentiments. As a result, it can be a valuable source of information and inspiration for HCI research and design. Social media technologies can improve, inform, and strengthen insights to better understand and represent user populations. To understand the position of social media research and analysis in the design process, this paper seeks to highlight shortcomings of using traditional research methods (e.g., interviews, focus groups) that ignore or don't adequately reflect relevant social media, and this paper speculates about the importance and benefits of leveraging social media for establishing context in supplement with these methods. We present examples that guide our thinking and introduce discussion around concerns related to using social media data.

Sustainability-related communication involving youth and children continues to be difficult to practice effectively and sustainably. This study examines how effective a particular approach to sustainability communication is at raising children’s environmental awareness through an educational program. Participatory action research and storytelling as a narrative paradigm were used to examine the effectiveness of bio-based experiential learning. A total of 74 students (ages 9 to 11) from Bandung, Indonesia, participated in the program. Twenty parents also participated in providing feedback for the campaign on how to change their children’s behavior towards the environment. The outcome demonstrates that the communication approach of bio-based experiential learning activities provides children with valuable education. The children are taught about urban farming, environmental awareness, and social responsibility. In the long run, it is hoped that children will be motivated to start an environmentally friendly business, particularly in biotechnology for the environment, to foster a sustainable city.

Syrian eating habits are trending towards westernized patterns that are high in carbohydrates, fats, and meat. This accompanied by an increasingly sedentary lifestyle has affected young adults’ dietary habits. As a consequence, obesity and overweight young adults are significantly increasing in prevalence. This study aims to assess the pattern of eating habits and their relation with psychosocial factors among university students. A cross-sectional study was conducted among Syrian Private University students using a self-administrated questionnaire. The questionnaire consisted of 3 sections: socio-demographic characteristics, eating habits, and psychosocial factors. Each item from the eating habits questionnaire was scored “1” if the response was healthy or “0” if the response was unhealthy. All items were summed and the total score was obtained for each student. Students’ scores were summed and divided by the total number of students to deduce the total mean of eating habits. Hierarchical multivariate linear regression was used to evaluate factors associated significantly with eating habit score and psychological factors. Of 728 students included in the study 398 (54.7%) were females. Overweight and obese participants represented 154 (21.4%) and 49 (6.8%) respectively. Around 316 (43.4%) were smokers and 135 (18.5%) drank alcohol. Only 259 (36.0%) students reported they adopted healthy eating habits. Of them, 233 (32%) and 306 (42%) ate meals and breakfast regularly respectively. Participants’ had a moderate eating habits score; the mean total was 5.96 (SD ± 1.95). Multivariate analysis revealed that non-smokers (p < 0.001), exercising (p = 0.002), living with family (p < 0.001), and eating because of feeling happy (p = 0.014) were factors significantly associated with eating habits score and psychological factors. While R² adjusted were 0.109 and 0.117 in the first and second model, the total model accounted for 13.2% of variance. Half of the students demonstrated unhealthy eating habits. The identified socio-demographic and psychological factors were significantly affecting students’ eating habits. These findings can be used to provide targeted lifestyle modification advice via health promotion programs towards these specific groups.

Purpose: Facebook has far more than 2.91 billion users worldwide, as of October 2021 by following its commitment to “Give people the power to build community and bring the world closer together”. Machine learning as well as applied Machine learning helps people to get new contents and related stories. Machine learning (ML) is a technique for recognizing and drawing conclusions from data connections. Speech recognition systems can caption videos on Facebook using machine learning, making them more accessible. The Facebook research team is working with Machine learning technology to give its users the best services. Here an analysis has been done on the history of Facebook, major acquisition of Facebook, applications of AI in Facebook and Financial plans and challenges. The entire Facebook company will now be known as Meta. The Facebook app, on the other hand, will keep its name, and other apps will not be affected. Facebook is now known as 'Meta' because of its new focus which means 'after' or 'beyond' in Greek. However, Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp, and Messenger are now all part of the 'Meta' company, much like Google's products are all part of the Alphabet company. Artificial intelligence, AI is really essential to Facebook. Approach: For this analysis, a sophisticated survey strategy based on secondary data was applied. Findings: Based on the findings, it is clear that to provide high-quality service, Facebook uses leading edge artificial intelligence/machine learning technologies. Originality: To identify the methodologies employed in the organization's services, a study is conducted based on the existing resources. Paper Type: Descriptive Case Study Research

The social networking websites like https://www.linkedin.com, http://www.facebook.com/, https://twitter.com/ and https://www.orkut.com/ etc. are continuously distracting students from their studies. The main focus of student should be education but unfortunately todays student are emphasizing on such sites which can be a complete wastage of time. Social Networks was only an electronic connection between users but unfortunately it has become an addiction for students, teenagers and even adults. This paper presents impact of social networks on education, students and impact on life of teenagers, further it describes how social networking websites are auditory and dangerous for youth and teenagers.
Real-time unusual event detection in video stream has been a difficult challenge due to the lack of sufficient training information, volatility of the definitions for both normality and abnormality, time constraints, and statistical limitation of the fitness of any parametric models. We propose a fully unsupervised dynamic sparse coding approach for detecting unusual events in videos based on online sparse re-constructibility of query signals from an atomically learned event dictionary, which forms a sparse coding bases. Based on an intuition that usual events in a video are more likely to be reconstructible from an event dictionary, whereas unusual events are not, our algorithm employs a principled convex optimization formulation that allows both a sparse reconstruction code, and an online dictionary to be jointly inferred and updated. Our algorithm is completely un-supervised, making no prior assumptions of what unusual events may look like and the settings of the cameras. The fact that the bases dictionary is updated in an online fashion as the algorithm observes more data, avoids any issues with concept drift. Experimental results on hours of real world surveillance video and several Youtube videos show that the proposed algorithm could reliably locate the unusual events in the video sequence, outperforming the current state-of-the-art methods.
