In functional languages, iterative operations on data collections are naturally expressed using recursive functions on recursive data structures. In this paper, we present a method to extract data parallelism from recursive functions and generate data parallel programs.

A Diameter-Class Matrix Model for Southeastern U.S. Coastal Plain Bottomland Hardwood Stands

Matrix models for 5-year projections of natural bottomland hardwood stands in the Southeastern Coastal Plain are presented. The diameter distribution projection of species groups is based on diameter class, stand basal area, and trees per ac. [Show full abstract] production‐distribution system, an exploratory case study in the Italian industry of modular kitchens has been used, with multiple levels of analysis and multiple data collection methods. Findings Three solutions for a better integration of production‐distribution systems are proposed; the solutions are characterized by increasing levels of benefits and complexity. The article focuses on the implementation of the less complex scenario, called “overlapping of selling areas”, proposing a series of algorithms used for the implementation of a software prototype. Research limitations/implications The case study has been chosen because it is representative of the assemble to delivery logic, where production is pulled and constrained by distribution, but it may not necessarily reflect all the firm's experiences in the furniture market. Practical implications The software prototype, developed on the basis of the proposed algorithms, allows a firm with production planning severely constrained by the distribution process to achieve better performance in terms of level of accomplishment in the delivery date promised and reduction of the lead time of delivery. Originality/value This paper proposes effective solutions for customer order‐driven‐production constrained by the distribution process, also offering practical help for managing and automatically assigning orders to transport carriers and for informing customers of the product's delivery date.

Worry and working memory influence each other iteratively over time

Little research has examined whether the relationship between working memory (WM) and anxiety/worry remains stable or changes over time; and, if changes occur, the factor(s) influencing change. [Show full abstract] versa, 133 fourteen-year-olds completed WM and Worry measures several times over the course of a single day as they prepared for a math test. We used a bivariate latent difference score model to analyse possible changes in WM-Worry relationships. The best fitting model indicated high Worry predicts decreases in WM, and low or decreased WM predicts increases in Worry; high WM with low Worry predicts accurate problem solving; low WM with high Worry predicts inaccurate problem solving. Findings show relationships between WM and Worry varies considerably over a single day, and initial disadvantages become worse over time.

Process capability indices (PCIs) are widely used as a measure of process potential and process performance. Unfortunately, the use of sample data to estimate PCIs means that any error in the sampling can introduce considerable uncertainty into the assessment of process capability. This necessitates the use of the lower confidence limit (LCL) in the estimation of minimum process capability. ... [Show full abstract] Furthermore, the complexity of sampling distributions of the PCIs greatly hinders interval estimation, such that only an approximate or asymptotic LCL can be achieved. This paper proposes a novel approach to deriving the LCL of indices Cpu, Cpl and Cpk using Boole’s inequality and DeMorgan’s theorem. This approach is based on subsample data collected from a stable process. Hypothesis testing is also used to determine whether the process is capable of satisfying the quality requirements of customers. We calculated the critical values of the PCIs for various significance levels, capability requirements and sample sizes. Finally, we present analysis of two cases to demonstrate the applicability of the proposed approach.

Based on research that has been conducted, concluded that the novel Achbabtuka Aktsara Min Mā Yanbaghī by 'Asīr ‘Abdullāh an-Nimsyī (2014) use of various kinds of al-af’āl al-injāziyyah or illocutionary speech acts. These al-af’āl al-injāziyyah are (1) al-ikhbāriyyah (assertive), (2) al-injāziyyah (declarative), (3) al-iltizāmiyyah (commissive), (4) at-ta’bīriyyah (expressive), and (5) at-taujīhiyyāt (directive). Among the five kinds of illocutionary speech acts are the most widely used in novel Achbabtuka Aktsara Min Mā Yanbaghī is a directive speech act or at-taujīhiyyāt.

Integrating Higher Education in a course of Education

This study aimed to analyze and compare the integration of higher education from a university pedagogy course and see if there was variation according to academic standing, age and employment status. Data collection was collective and included the completion of the Academic Experiences Questionnaire (QVA) for 68 students enrolled in first or last series of the course. With regard to academic ... [Show full abstract] standing, significant differences were found in 15 subscales and always favorable to the graduates. The age of entering students differ significantly in their integration into three subscales. The personal perception of competence was significantly different when considering the work situation of freshmen. The age of entering students differ significantly in their integration into two subscales. The analysis confirms that the integration exposed to higher education is a multifaceted phenomenon and inserted into a web of interrelationships that involve the characteristics of students.
