Deficit Irrigation of Cool and Warm Season Turfgrass Varieties Under Diffirent Irrigation Methods

Recently, the amount of landscape areas has been increasing in Marmara Region especially in İstanbul where has intensive population. This trend has also increased demand of fresh water which is und er responsibility of municipalities and related ministries. This institutions has been struggling with this issue. In this study, it will be tried to determine that the response of turfgrass varieties, mostly used in landspace areas, to diffirent deficit irrigation levels under sprinkler and sub-drip irrigation methods. Field experiments will be carried out in the Agricultural Production and Research Center (TURAM) of Silivri Municipality-İstanbul-Turkey in summer time of 2019 and 2020. In this research, two different irrigation methods (Y: Sprinkler and TD: Sub-drip), for two different turfgrass varieties (K: Cool season (30% Lolium perenne, 25% Festuca rubra rubra, 35% Festuca arundinacea, 10% Poa pratensis) and B: Warm season (Bermudagrass (Cynodon spp.)) turfgrass), at three diffirent irrigation levels (S1: Irrigation will be applied when about 50% of available soil moisture is consumed in the effective root zone, S2: The amount of irrigation water is 2/3 of S1 amounts, S3: The amount of irrigation water is 1/3 of S1 amounts,) will be examined in split split plot design with three replications. Soil moisture content will be monitored by TDR, climatich data will be taken from automatic meteorology station astablisted in experimental areas, canopy temperature will be measured by infrared thermometer. Vegetation height, grass quality, plant color, fresh yield, dry yield, and plant density will be monitored and evaluted for each treatment. At the end of the study, the most proper irrigation methods, irrigation scheduling and actual evapotranspiration will be determined for both turfgrass varieties. Besides, proper referens evapotranspiration method and crop curves (kc) will be searched. The usage of CWSI for turfgrass irrigation timing will be cleared up. ... [more]
