Introduction
The genus Aphanus LAPORTE, 1833 belongs to the family Rhyparochromidae AMYOT &
SERVILLE, 1843 – established by HENRY (1997) – within the suborder Heteroptera of the Hemiptera.
22 species within this genus have been described (DELLAPÉ & HENRY 2018).
Aphanus rolandri (LINNAEUS, 1758) is an unmistakable black ground bug with a characteristic
orange or red spot at the base of the wing membrane and a length of 6 to 8 mm.
The species has an Euro-Mediterranean and Pontic distribution. It has been reported from the
following European countries: Austria, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus,
the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Latvia,
Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Macedonia, Malta, Moldova, Montenegro, the Netherlands, Norway,
Poland, Portugal (including the Azores and Madeira), Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia,
Spain (including the Canary Islands), Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine and the United
Kingdom (including the Channel Islands) (HOBERLANDT 1952; PÉRICART 1998, 2001; PROTIĆ 2001,
2016; LEZHENINA et al. 2009; ÖNCÜL ABACIGIL et al. 2010; SKIPPER & TOLSGAARD 2013; HANSEN et
al. 2015). Furthermore, A. rolandri has been reported from Algeria, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Egypt,
Georgia, Iran, Israel, Jordan, Libya, Morocco, Syria, Tunisia and Turkmenistan (PÉRICART 1998).
First record of Aphanus rolandri (LINNAEUS, 1758) in Albania
On 30.06.2017, ALEKSANDER GOLEMAJ was able to photograph a specimen of A. rolandri in
the city of Vlorë in southern Albania (Fig. 1).
As A. rolandri has not been reported from Albania in scientific publications yet, the record
mentioned in this paper is the first one for this country.

I would like to thank ALEKSANDER GOLEMAJ (Vlorë, Albania) for allowing me to use his photograph of A.
rolandri to illustrate this paper.
