REVIEW ON MANUFACTURING PROTOCOL FOR MAHANARYAN
OIL

ABSTRACT
Mahanaryan oil is a classical oil formulation which was formulated in
SAR SANGRAH and BHAISHAJ RATNAVALI, CHAPTER 26,
VATAVYADHI ROGADHIKARA, Verse: 343 to 354 &
BHAVAPRAKASHA CHIKITSA. Letter it is also published in
Ayurvedic formulary of India in Second volume. This Article presents
the importance about this oil. According to Ayurveda this oil is very
important in Vattaj rogas/diseases. It is very useful in arthritis,
paralysis and eye diseases, Facial palsy, Hearing loss, Deafness,
Paraplegia, tremors, Neck rigidty, Lock jaw, wasting of hands, Female
Infertility, Teeth and tongue ailment, headache, Dental pain, fever. It is
also very effective in osteoporosis and osteo arthritis. It will balance the Vata and Pitta. It is
highly used in panchkarma treatment in Anuvasana basti, Janubasti, Nasay. it is also orally in
dose of 3 to 5ml twice a day, before food with warm water or milk. The shelf life of this oil is
three year after date manufacture. It is very useful in migraine, headache, depression. It will
nourish and rejuvenate our body. It can apply locally and used in deep tissue massage. Still
there is lot of scientific search are pending on this oil. The active ingredient camphor makes it
more beautiful formulation. saffaron is also improve the potency of the oil and make a
colourful formulation. The Kalka ingredient is firstly prepared and then kawath dravya are
added in it and milk is also added in it. I have prepared a large scale batch size table which is
below in this article.

INTRODUCTION
Mahanarayan tail or thaliam is ayurvedic classical medicated tail prepared by using till tail as
base and then processed in different medicate decoction and last aromatic drugs are mix in it

It will improve the strength of bone and reduce the joint inflammation highly used in
osteoarthritis. Internally use this drug relief in knee pain. It will also reduce joint
inflammation. It is indicted in all types of VATA VYADI (Related to nerves, bones, muscles
and joints.[1,2] It is used in external application over the skin but in many Classical treatments
it is used internally such as Anuvasana basti, janubasti, Nasya. Orally It will balance the Vata
and Pitta.
For external used it can be long period of time and orally usage it is not more than the 3-4
months. Mahanarayan Thailam Fifty sex ingredient is which make this formulation special
and best. In which asthavarga drugs and animal origin drugs are added musk which makes
this drugs a pleasant smell and the kashar make it more valuable of this formulation.
According to Ayurvedic Pharmacopeia of India part One Second Edition best remedies of
these above disease Ardita (Facial palsy), Badhiratva (Deafness), Pagutva (Paraplegia), Gatra
Kampa (Tremors), Manya Stambha (Neck rigidity/Torricelli’s), Hanustambha (Lock jaw),
Ekanga (Wasting of one limb), Sukraksaya (Oligospermia), Vandhyatva (Infertility), Siroruja
(Headache), Jihvastambha (Glossal palsy), Danta sula (Dental Pain), Unmada
(Mania/Psychosis), Kubja (Hump-back/Kyphosis), Jvara (Fever), Jara (Senility/Progeriasis),
Karsya (Emaciation), Snayu Bhagna (Tendon tear), Asthi Bhagna (Bone fracture).[3] Lot of
experiment study done in animal but still there is more scientific research should done in this
lovely formulation. Inflammation is a complex network of a variety of molecules, which is
self-regulating through the balanced action of anti and pro inflammatory cytokines. An
imbalance between anti and pro-inflammatory cytokines results in cellular damage in
rheumatoid arthritis (RA), which is a common chronic inflammatory and destructive
arthropathy.[4,5] A study of anal sphincter tone in acute fissure in a patients treated with
mahanarayana oil was also done.[6] This oil also taken as reference standard activity for anti
inflammation.[7] It is also used in various composition for improve the therapeutic efficacy.[8]
it is also used in sinus therapy.[9] It is also used in psoriasis treatments.[10]

The mixture is boiled and simmered until the oil remains and filtered to get Maha Narayan Oil.
Shelf life / expiry date – Three years from the date of manufacture. Once opened, it is best to
empty the oil within 1 year.
CONCLUSION
Mahanarayan tail is well stabilised Classical formulation used in various treatments. It is very
beneficial in fever, arthritis, sinus, psoriasis. It should be used externally and internally. This
tail is also used for mixing with other composition so that the drug will increase its potency
and therapeutic efficacy. It is also taken as standard drugs in study of the inflammation
project.
