The forest cover in Vietnam has been increasing dramatically in recent years, especially the area
of production forest providing different kinds of timber. However, the increase in value as well as the effect
from plantations has not really corresponded to the development of the area. The majority of production
forests has been focusing on producing wood chips from young trees with low yield. The

carried out a study in order to propose a number of forest business plans with higher efficiency. Based on
the silvicultural criteria of indigenous tree species, three large-scale forest business models with 7 planting
structures were designed. Acacia large-scale timber model (model 2), fast change model (model 3) and lower
change model (model 4) promised higher NPV than the control. Particularly, the profit of model 3 was four
times as high as that of model 1 with a net income of about 166 million VND/25-year-rotation when the
indigenous tree species were planted. All the models required a large investment for caring and nurturing.
The requirements for these models can be completely met with present conditions.
