Standards of online and smart services for academic institutions in UAE

Electronic management considered important tool for businesses to interact and communicate outside its borders. Using the web and new technologies of electronic communication facilitates the basis of Electronic management. This research provides a theoretical definition and concepts of E-management and its usage in academic institutions, by focusing on the role of E-management in achieving efficiency and effective performance of academic organizations within a smart services in different management transactions. Also, it will provides recommendations to show the importanceof using total quality in E-studies as well as studying the methods of evaluating the students feedback and reviews on converting to online smart services.

A Inteligência Competitiva e a Tecnologia da Informação (TI) propiciam aos gestores análise de informações estratégicas. Este estudo analisa conjuntamente ambas as ferramentas (IC e TI) empregadas pelas redes hoteleiras de grande porte situadas no sudeste do Brasil, que constituem 31 hotéis, 26,3% do universo populacional. Para análise dos resultados, utilizou-se do método estatístico ANOVA. Os resultados expõem que há diferenças significativas no nível de utilização das ferramentas de IC e de TI por parte dos dois grupos analisados, sendo que o Business Intelligence destaca-se por ser a ferramenta mais utilizada para apoiar os métodos de analise em IC.

Undergraduate nursing students often find essay writing challenging, and feel underprepared, yet the impact of using online feedback to support essay writing has been underexplored. First-year nursing students from a regional university were involved in a project that encouraged them to access an online tutoring service, as part of their development of an essay task. Students who accessed online writing support were also more likely to be deep, rather than surface learners. The findings indicate that the provision of prompt or ‘just in time’ feedback, using an online feedback mechanism, can greatly enhance students’ essay writing performance.

Internal versus External Attributions Are Important Determinants of Subsequent Performance

Perceived locus of causality is an important factor in assessing the impact of prior success or failure on later performance. In order to examine the effects of internal (self) versus external (partner) attributions on subsequent performance, two studies were conducted. All subjects received success feedback and were led to attribute their success either to their own actions or to the actions of their partners. Half of the subjects were then tested on an additional maze, and the rest were tested on a different task. In the second study 92 female undergraduates followed the same procedures as those in the first study with minor variations. The results showed that subjects in the internal attribution condition performed better when tested on the same (maze) task than on a different task; the reverse was true for those in the external attribution condition. The findings indicate that attributions are important determinants of subsequent performance. (Author/BH)

Web-based tools may assist with the aforementioned issues; however, research on the effects of homework, paper-based versus web-based homework, and online learning tools is inconsistent. The goal of this research is to improve assessment via web-based homework while requiring minimal instructor effort and time. The hypothesis is stated as employing web-based homework will improve scores on student performance as measured by a university course assessment. The web-based homework occurs via the implementation of discussion boards in multiple undergraduate courses in the college of business of a mid-size regional university. Results indicate discussion boards can be used to effectively improve student performance as measured by assessment.

This survey investigated the relationship and gap between students' expectations and perceptions of perceived service quality of education, emphasizing the least effective service quality dimension. The study was based on primary data, which turned out to be most significant. Data were collected from 349 of 405 students through a questionnaire (86.1% response rate). [Show full abstract] there existed a gap (7.6% overall gap) between the expectations and perceptions of the students that was an indicator of improvement in quality of education being delivered by applying paired t-tests. Perceived reliability was the most important service quality dimension found in the current study (< .001) and tangibility, the fifth dimension of service quality, appears to be insignificant (< 0.778), and was never found negative by any of the past researchers, indicating a null effect of physical structure of the classroom on quality of education. The work attempted to develop an understanding of the comparative assessments of two mindsets of the receivers. The results provide valuable feedback that could be used for identifying and improving weak service quality dimensions among institutes in Pakistan. No such study was carried out before at this level in Pakistan.
