Abstract
Aim of life is overcome from the disease, aged and death. But the human behaviour is
lead to the diseases, quick aged and death. Sexual behaviour is crucial role in physical and
mental health. Sexual exposure is occurring at ages as young as 9–12 years. Secondary sexual
development, misunderstanding, is develops the adolescent sexual urge and the exposure of
mass media misleads the adolescents. The present study attempted to collect information
about masturbation experience of adolescent girls aged 10-19 years residing in Chennai City,
Tamil Nadu state. Data was taken from the Post-doctoral Research (2016-2017) Data, among
them 30 girls was interviewed in depth about their sexual behaviour. Most of the girls
experiencing masturbation behaviour and they were using the hard object to stimulate their
genital organs like Brinjal, carrot, wax candle, and Electronic vibrator. Those hard objects
make wound their genital organs, vagina, cervix, and uterus. The girls seriously affected by
used Vibrator; it was damaged genitals and came over bleeding. They had abdominal pain,
peace less mind, inattention; guilty feeling etc. but they did not share their health and mental
conditions with any others. Major Determinants of these behaviours are quick access of
internet, porn, sex film watch, easy online purchase of vibrator, parents’ role missing, and
generation gap. This behaviour gives reproductive health problems as well as mental
disturbance to them.

1. Introduction
Masturbation has been depicted in art since prehistoric times and is mentioned and
discussed in very early writings. In the 18th and 19th centuries, some European theologians
and physicians described it as "heinous", "deplorable", and "hideous", but during the 20th
century these taboos generally declined. There has been an increase in discussion and
portrayal of masturbation in art, popular music, television, films, and literature. Today,
2
religions vary in their views of masturbation; some view it as a spiritually detrimental
practice, some see it as not spiritually detrimental, and others take a situational view. The
legal status of masturbation has also varied through history and masturbation in public is
illegal in most countries. In the Western world, masturbation in private or with a partner is
generally considered a normal and healthy part of sexual enjoyment.
Self-abuse and self-pollution were common in early modern times and are still found
in modern dictionaries. Masturbation involves touching, pressing, rubbing or massaging a
person's genital area, either with the fingers or against an object such as a pillow; vulva with
an electric vibrator. Reading or viewing pornography, sexual fantasies, or other erotic stimuli
may lead to a desire for sexual release such as by masturbation. Other objects such as ball
point pens and thermometers are sometimes used, although this practice can lead to injury
and/or infection. Some people masturbate by using machine that simulate intercourse.
Frequency of masturbation is determined by many factors, e.g., one's resistance to sexual
tension, hormone levels influencing sexual arousal, sexual habits, peer influences, health and
one's attitude to masturbation formed by culture; E. Heiby and J. Becker examined the latter.
Medical causes have also been associated with masturbation. Female masturbation alters
conditions in the vagina, cervix and uterus, in ways that can alter the chances of conception
from intercourse, depending on the timing of the masturbation. Those who insert objects as
aids to masturbation risk them becoming stuck (e.g. as rectal foreign bodies). Men and
women can fall prey to this problem. A woman went into a German hospital with two pencils
in her bladder, having pierced her urethra after inserting them during masturbation.
The association of masturbation with other sexual behaviors indicates that masturbation is an
important component of adolescent sexuality rather than an isolated or transient phenomenon.
Our cross-sectional data cannot address whether masturbation typically precedes or follows
initiation of other sexual behaviors. However, masturbation appears to endure even as other
sexual behaviors develop and is one way adolescents experience sexuality. Thus, dismissing
masturbation as a developmental phase misconstrues its role throughout adolescent sexuality
(Cynthia L. Robbins, et.al. 2016). Masturbation can have both good and bad effects (Dana
Dovey, 2016).
Importance of the study:
Adolescent complete their physical, psychological and emotional journey to
3
adulthood in a world that contains both opportunities and dangers. Adolescents are at risk
reproductive and sexual health because of poor understanding of their sexuality and
sometimes the only information sources available to them are media and peers. They are not
aware of sexual norms and values results in increased mental and physical illness. Lots of
emotional changes occur during this period like mood changes (irresponsibility and
stubbornness), attraction to opposite sex and search for identify etc. Researchers have
produced a substantial body of work on the biological and psychological changes that occur
during adolescence, as well as the family, peer, and cultural influences that shape
adolescents’ lives in important ways. This evidence-as well as the evidence-based practice of
health care practitioners and others who work with adolescents-can guide current and future
efforts to promote healthy behaviour and also to prevent risky behaviour that are prevalent
during this stage of development.

6
Findings drawn from the study are as follows: study girls’ background conditions like
parents’ attention, care and support, parents’ interaction with their daughter were poor. Most
of the adolescent’s friends’ had bad habit like drinking alcohol, watching porn video, sex film
and they were share their personal thinks with their friends and gets friends’ advise. All the
girls spent lot of time to playing in mobile, chatting, watching sex film and they did not

violence in mentally and their parents’ relationship was bad conditions. During masturbation
most of the girls experienced physical tiredness, injuries, stuck the hard object inside of their
uterus and damaging their genital. Moreover most of the girls felt as make mistaken, sin, ‘I
am ugly’, not good girl.
Conclusion:
Adolescents’ family background conditions, Poor attention of parents, income
independence of adolescent, less care and support of parents, friend’s circles and family
situations are crucial role in Adolescent’s Masturbation behaviour. In additionally porn and
sex video watching habit is main causes of the behaviour. Masturbation is not fulfilling the
sex desire or sex urge and it is opener of desire and it is self-murder, more over it is abnormal
mind expression. The mind abusive and sadistic idea is expression as masturbation, and it
will lead to aggressive sexual behaviour. Dee Wagner, a licensed professional counselor and
a board-certified dance therapist explained in Medical Daily ‘Masturbation stimulates a
reward response in the brain, and just as with any rewarding activity, it is possible to get
addicted to the chemistry of an orgasm. Not only is this bad for your mental health, but
orgasm addiction can require individuals to need more and more stimulation to get the same
results, which can lead to bodily harm.
Discussion:
The History of masturbation theory is having different thoughts from modern theory.
Modern studies are told about masturbation is favourable to the human. Here I have question,
is the man’s science can show the human feeling, intention, thoughts, mind, soul? Whatever it
may be, the people wants scientific proof, that means wants to see by eyes. The science can
show the visible things and cannot show the invisible things. But invisible soul is directing
the visible body. The people believe the body but don’t believe the soul. Here my question is
without soul the body can act? Never, so, inside and outside fact is stimulate the feeling, the
stimulated feelings create by intension and the intention is expressed as behaviour. So, if the
7
good intentions as shows the good behaviour and bad intentions are expressed as bad
behaviour. The scientist thought about the sex is ‘nature’, yes nature, but natural please how
possible, both gender important to make love and affection and get sex pleasure, otherwise
materials things, male with male, women with women, sex toys, vibrator all are against the
nature, not only that, the business world make money through the behaviour. Austrain
psychiatrist Sigmund Freud believed that sexuality and the sexual force forms the basis of the
human psyche. Sexual activity impacted hormones level. Science is only now beginning to
understand the impact of sexual activity on immune-response and hormone profile, but one
thing is clear: sexual forces underlie all human behavior, and correctly manipulated sexual
activity can improve physical health. (Clayton South, 2017)
Moreover human is best creation among the world biology, all the living organism
being as nature but the man only acting against the nature. Living things only can feel and
gives real pleasure but the non-living things how can feel the human, is this give real
satisfaction? So the masturbation is gives adverse effect to the adolescents. Adolescent age is
period for develop physically, mentally, socially, economically wellbeing. So, the artificial
behaviour is leading the adolescent life as problematic. Life style is may be changed, but the
changes for what only materials things, but cannot change the nature, like man cannot eat
materials things, cannot eat rubber, iron, plastic etc. can eat fruits, vegetable, at the same the
natural sex is (man and woman) make love and affection and gives safe secured life from
young age to elder age.
Suggestions:
The major conclusion drawn from this research stress the need for some of the following
recommendations:
Parents and family is important role to promote girls healthy life. Should educate to
the parents about child rearing and take care of their daughters. Parents should
monitor their daughter activities, should not allow to staying with alone. A parent is
preventive measure for control the children mind. A tool to prevent evil thoughts from
children. If the parents are near, the children will not be lusty.
Should educate to the adolescent about sexual norms and values (fear-accham,
ignorance-madam, shyness-nanam, attraction-eerppu) can avoid the sexual issues.
Because, ethically masturbation is wrong; think of X/Y and do sex of own, wastes
time, makes useless, creates memory-lose, though-provoking ability, is not end of
desire; may be fooled by own practice, it is never gives solution or a satisfaction,
who masturbate will lose interest in sex with their partner very soon. They cannot
feel pleasurable for a long time, it is induces homosexuals in schools, colleges and
8
hostels. Many times the latter creates sexually transmitted diseases like
VD, syphilis, AIDS etc. (Dr.Jasneer Np,2017)
Should education to the adolescent about their responsibilities of society, physical
nature, and importance family life. Because, Masturbation cannot be done simply, it
needs to see, touch, indulge or, at last to think of a sexual practice/ sex organ of the
opposite sex. This is more harmful that the image in your memory that you see
could not be erased easily. This will lead you to a noxious problem that you cannot
see any boy/ men without a single thought. Masturbation creates an urge to do
indefinitely; it does not see the place, people and culture. It makes you digging
worse sexual problems if chance knocks the door, it leads to illegal contacts because
the urge increases day by day and finally will lead to the search of a source for
sexual pleasure, and will create dissatisfaction to them and to their mate.
Urgent need to implement the SEX EDUCATION to avoid sexual health issues.
Because, Masturbation makes adolescent as weak; it drains protein and calcium
content in the body, creates nervousness and neurological problems, one of the
main cause for erectile dysfunction, create drowsiness, depression and makes one
feeling bad on his own, lead to damn tired, it causes for stress and strain in their
mind and soul, affects psychologically. The seminal fluid that gets released on
masturbation contains proteins that are needed for many metabolic activities and
cell formations. Proteins are the building blocks of body; ejaculation often will
create them to be lean and distracts their metabolism of muscle building.
Should encourage the research regarding women sexual behaviour.
Science is only now beginning to understand the impact of sexual activity on
immune-response and hormone profile, but one thing is clear: sexual forces underlie
all human behavior, and correctly manipulated sexual activity can improve physical
health.
Sex is important to make love with male and female. Self-Masturbation is physically
well stimulated the nerves system but it is not complete sex happiness, end of the
masturbation will arise loneliness, so teach to the adolescent meaning of sex and ideal
love.
